Control system with low-profile XY shift lever for automated manual transmissions

Abstract

A control system for an automated manual transmission comprises a base box with a plurality of shift rods, each configured to move one of a plurality of gear-shift clutches of the automated manual transmission. Each of the plurality of shift rods extends along its respective longitudinal axis. The control system further comprises an XY shift lever with a main rail extending along a main rail longitudinal axis. A first actuator is configured to rotate the main rail about the main rail longitudinal axis. A second actuator is configured to shift the main rail along the main rail longitudinal axis. Rotating the main rail about the main rail longitudinal axis engages one of the multiple shift rods.By moving the main rail along the main rail's longitudinal axis, the main rail moves the one engaged switching rod from the multitude of switching rods along its respective longitudinal axis.
