AIR PRE-PURIFIER AND AIR PRE-PURIFICATION SYSTEM FOR PRE-PURIFIING AIR USING CHARGE PLATES

Abstract

This document describes a filter for filtering air for an internal combustion engine and its operating procedures. The air pre-cleaner (100) is configured to use electrostatic attraction or repulsion to move ionized particles (128) toward an inner wall (126) of the air pre-cleaner (100), with the particles (128) eventually exiting the air pre-cleaner (100) through a particle outlet (120). The particles (128) are ionized by a positive and a negative charge plate. The positive charge plate generates a positive charge field (134A), producing positive ions that ionize the particles (128) in the air with a positive charge. The negative charge plate generates a negative charge field (134B), producing negative ions that ionize the particles (128) in the air with a negative charge.The air pre-cleaner (100) can also include a cyclone section (104) which causes the air to rotate around a central axis of the air pre-cleaner (100), thereby exerting a centripetal force on the particles (128). The centripetal force and the electrostatic force work together to filter the air.
