Abstract

A photonic device (10) comprises a light source (15) configured to emit pump radiation (17), a coupling region (106) comprising an ordered photonic structure (105) consisting of a pattern of a first material (112) embedded in a matrix material (110), and a photonic integrated circuit (120). The first material (112), or matrix material (110), is a fluorescent material. The fluorescent material is configured to receive the pump radiation (17) and emit converted radiation (18) toward the photonic integrated circuit (120).
