Abstract

A system for imaging and treating tissue in a patient using a tissue therapy device comprises a tissue therapy device for delivering therapy to internal tissue, a sensor for detecting electrical parameters at the device, an imaging sensor for detecting internal image information, and a control circuit with signal processing capabilities that can determine changes in the state of the tissue therapy device based on the detected electrical parameters, process image information to detect changes in the state of the tissue therapy device, and adjust the system output when a change is detected.A method for imaging and treating tissue using a tissue therapy device includes monitoring an end effector of a medical device with an imaging sensor, energizing the end effector with electrosurgical energy for a surgical procedure, capturing parameters of the energy, determining changes in the state of the surgical procedure, and adjusting the power of the electrosurgical system if a change in the state of the end effector is detected.
