Shoulder strap width adjustment device (10) for a school satchel (100) or school backpack, comprising at least one body (50) and two shoulder straps (31, 32) to be connected thereto, comprising at least: - a base element (11) connectable to the body (50), which has at least two receptacles (15.1,15.2,15.3, 15.1', ​​15.2', 15.3') in each of two side areas; - for each shoulder strap (31, 32) a shoulder strap receptacle with a coupling element (12, 12') designed for releasable positive engagement in one of the receptacles (15.1, 15.2, 15.3, 15.1', ​​15.2', 15.3'), characterized in that - that the coupling elements (12, 12') are each attached to the ends of guide rails (19.1, 19.2) which are to be connected to the body (50); - that the coupling elements (12, 12') are each rotatable relative to the end of the guide rail (19.1, 19.2) and each have a pin (12.1) which, in an open position, can be inserted into one of the receptacles (15.1, 15.2, 15.3, 15.1', ​​15.2', 15.3') in the base element (11) and can be positively locked in the receptacle in the base element (11) by pivoting into a closed position.
