Mucolytic herbal composition made from dried quince (Cydonia oblonga) and quince seed mucilage for the treatment of coughs

Abstract

A mucoadhesive herbal composition for the treatment of coughs, wherein the composition comprises dried quince fruit material (Cydonia oblonga) selected from powder, extract, slices, granules or combinations thereof, and quince seed mucilage obtained from hydrated quince seeds, wherein the dried quince fruit material and the quince seed mucilage are combined in a pharmaceutically or nutraceutically acceptable oral dosage form to achieve a throat-coating mucoadhesive effect and a dual cough-suppressing and expectorant activity.
