AI Technical Summary
Conventional outdoor gas grills experience delayed ignition of burners due to the length and gas volume of gas lines running along the outer side of the cooking space, leading to user frustration and potential detonator lifespan reduction.
The design features a gas line and electrical cable routed below a bridge or footbridge, protected from falling fat, which covers the gas line and cable vertically, ensuring direct access to the burner without delay and reducing the length of the gas line, allowing for immediate gas supply upon valve opening.
This configuration ensures fast and reliable ignition of the burner, reducing user frustration and extending the lifespan of the ignition system by minimizing delays and exposure to fat drippings.
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to an outdoor gas grill according to the preamble of claim 1.
[0002] Outdoor grills are enjoying increasing popularity, especially in the form of gas grills in private homes and at corporate events. Gas-powered outdoor grills can avoid long preheating times and quickly provide different temperature levels, especially in different temperature zones, for a truly luxurious grilling experience.
[0003] Conventional outdoor gas grills often have a removable metal funnel below the cooking chamber, which is enclosed at least horizontally along its circumference by a cooking chamber wall. This funnel drains fat dripping from food placed above the burners through a lower outlet opening. A removable grease tray is located in a holder at the bottom of the metal funnel, in which the fat drained through the outlet opening collects. The funnel thus forms the floor of the cooking chamber without being integrally connected to the cooking chamber wall. It is also possible to form the floor of the cooking chamber as a single piece with the cooking chamber wall.
[0004] If the gas connection for a burner is provided in the rear region of the cooking chamber wall, in particular for a burner arranged in the region of a rear side of the cooking chamber, and a gas-carrying line is provided from a valve that regulates the gas supply and is arranged in the region of a front side of the cooking chamber to the burner, this gas line must conventionally be routed along the outer lateral circumference of the cooking chamber, whereby the gas line is of considerable length and has a considerable gas-carrying volume. Thus, when the valve is opened to ignite the burner, there is a delay until the burner is sufficiently supplied with gas, for example with an electric igniter, and can be ignited, because the entire gas-carrying space in this gas line must first be filled with gas via the valve. In practice, such a delay leads to a user repeatedly attempting unsuccessfully to ignite the burner, which on the one hand shortens the service life of the igniter and on the other hand is perceived as annoying.
[0005] US 6 176 173 B1 discloses an outdoor gas grill with the features summarized in the preamble of claim 1. For further prior art, reference is made to US 2012 / 266856 A1, US 10 342 383 B2, and EP 3 375 335 A1.
[0006] The present invention is based on the object of providing an outdoor gas grill in which a delayed ignition of a burner is reliably avoided.
[0007] The object of the invention is achieved by an outdoor gas grill having the features of claim 1. The dependent claims describe advantageous and particularly useful embodiments of the invention.
[0008] An outdoor gas grill according to the invention has a cooking chamber, which is arranged, for example, on a base frame. The base frame forms, for example, a cabinet with at least one swing door. The at least one swing door covers the front of the base frame at least partially or at least substantially completely and can be pivoted laterally outward about a vertical axis. Furthermore, the base frame can have one or two side tables, which are mounted laterally to the cooking chamber on each outer side of the base frame.
[0009] According to the invention, the cooking chamber is enclosed at least in the horizontal circumferential direction by a cooking chamber wall, and at least one burner, in particular a plurality of burners, is arranged in the cooking chamber. The burners can, for example, each be designed in the form of a gas-carrying tube with a plurality of gas outlet openings, wherein the tubes extend horizontally through the cooking chamber in a first direction, for example parallel to one another. The first direction can, in particular, correspond to the depth direction of the cooking chamber, i.e., a direction starting from a front side of the cooking chamber, where, for example, one or more gas-regulating valves are arranged, to a rear side of the cooking chamber.
[0010] The cooking chamber has a floor that partially closes the cooking chamber below the burner(s). According to one embodiment, the floor can be designed as one piece with the cooking chamber wall, i.e. a part of the cooking chamber wall that encloses the cooking chamber in the horizontal circumferential direction is designed as one piece with the floor, so that the floor can also be referred to as part of the cooking chamber wall. According to an alternative embodiment, the part of the cooking chamber wall that encloses the cooking chamber in the horizontal circumferential direction can be provided separately from the floor, which does not preclude both from being referred to as a multi-part cooking chamber wall. However, the invention is particularly suitable for a one-piece design of the cooking chamber wall with the floor, or in a two-part embodiment for a fixed connection of the floor to the cooking chamber wall or a common holder, so that the floor is fixed relative to the cooking chamber wall.
[0011] According to the invention, regardless of the single-part or multi-part embodiment of the cooking chamber wall, a plurality of horizontally arranged grease drip openings are provided in the floor, which are separated from one another by at least one web in the floor, wherein at least one gas line and / or an electrical cable runs in the web and / or on the web.
[0012] The gas line and / or the electrical cable is / are attached to the bridge, preferably from the outside, preferably on its underside. Alternatively, the gas line and / or the electrical cable can also be at least partially embedded in the bridge.
[0013] Since the at least one gas line and / or the at least one electrical cable runs beneath the bridge or even within the bridge, it is protected from dripping fat. According to the invention, the at least one gas line and / or the at least one electrical cable is therefore completely covered by the bridge, viewed in a vertical direction from top to bottom. This applies to the section of the gas line and / or the electrical cable in the region of the bridge. The gas line and / or the electrical cable therefore do not run above the bridge through the cooking chamber.
[0014] For example, the at least one gas line and / or the at least one electrical cable can be attached to the bridge from below. However, attachment to a component other than the bridge is also possible.
[0015] The floor and / or cooking chamber wall is / are preferably made of cast iron, in particular cast aluminum.
[0016] According to one embodiment, the entire cooking chamber wall and floor, especially if they are constructed as a single piece, are made of cast iron, particularly cast aluminum. This allows for a thermally favorable, very stable, and compact structure.
[0017] Particularly preferably, at least one valve regulating a gas supply is arranged in the region of a front side of the cooking chamber and at least one burner is arranged in the region of a rear side of the cooking chamber, wherein a gas-carrying line runs from the valve to the burner along the web, i.e. in the web or on the web. Of course, several such valves regulating a gas supply and several gas-carrying lines, at least one line per valve, can also be provided along the web or the webs, for example in order to accordingly control the gas supply to several burners. One gas-carrying line can be provided for each web, or several gas-carrying lines can be provided per web. Furthermore, it is not necessary for each web to have a gas-carrying line.
[0018] If the burner has an electric igniter in the area at the back of the cooking chamber that is supplied with power via the electrical cable, this cable is also advantageously laid along a bridge.
[0019] According to one embodiment of the invention, at least three or at least four, in particular exactly three or exactly four, grease drip openings are arranged next to one another in one direction, in particular transversely of the cooking chamber. Accordingly, two or three webs are provided next to one another for three or four grease drip openings, each of which separates two grease drip openings from one another.
[0020] It is advantageous to have a removable grease tray underneath the grease drip openings, or preferably several individual removable grease trays. This makes cleaning easier. With several individual grease trays, only the ones into which grease has dripped need to be cleaned.
[0021] To ensure that only the cover for the at least one gas line and / or the at least one electrical cable is reached by at least one web without further reducing the cross-section for dripping fat, each fat drip opening preferably extends over more than half of the floor's extent in a depth direction of the cooking chamber. Thus, rather than many individual small fat drip openings, comparatively large ones are provided, with, for example, at least two fat drip openings together covering at least 30 to 40 percent of the width of the maximum horizontal cross-sectional area of the cooking chamber.
[0022] The grease drip openings are preferably each larger in width and / or cross-section than the width and / or area of the web positioned between them. According to one embodiment, the openings together extend over more than 30 percent, preferably more than 40 percent, more than 50 percent, or even more than 60 percent of the maximum horizontal cross-sectional area of the base and / or the cooking chamber.
[0023] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the cooking chamber has a floor comprising a heat insulation layer and / or heat reflection layer. For example, the floor is made of cast iron, in particular cast aluminum, with the heat insulation layer and / or heat reflection layer being at least partially or completely cast in. In particular, the heat insulation layer and / or heat reflection layer is embedded in the floor in a form-fitting and / or material-fitting manner, so that it cannot be removed.
[0024] The invention will be explained below using an embodiment and the figures as examples.
[0025] They show: Figure 1 shows an embodiment of an outdoor gas grill according to the invention; Figure 2 shows the cooking chamber of the outdoor gas grill without burners and struts; Figure 3 shows an exploded view of a cooking chamber with struts, burners, and shielding plates; Figure 4 shows a schematic representation of a gas line and an electrical cable under a web of the floor; Figure 5 shows the lower area of the cooking chamber with grease drip trays.
[0026] In the Figure 1 an outdoor gas grill is shown which has a base frame 1 with a front side 1.1, a back side 1.2 and two opposing outer sides 1.3, 1.4 which are arranged perpendicular to the front side 1.1 and the back side 1.2.
[0027] The base frame 1 is movable on wheels 2, wherein in the illustrated embodiment, a wheel 2 is provided at each of the four lower corners of the base frame 1. According to an alternative embodiment, only two wheels 2 could be provided in the area of only one outer side 1.3, 1.4 and at least one, two or more feet in the area of the other outer side 1.3, 1.4, so that the outdoor gas grill can be moved like a wheelbarrow with the opposite wheels 2 by lifting the outer side 1.3, 1.4 with at least one foot. In particular, two wheels 2, for example on one of the outer sides 1.3, 1.4, can be pivoted about a vertical axis, and the other two wheels 2 can be connected in a rotationally fixed manner about a vertical axis.
[0028] A cooking chamber 3 is arranged on the base frame 1. This chamber is covered by a hood 11 that can be pivoted upwards and backwards along a horizontal axis 10 to allow access to the cooking chamber. The hood 11 has, for example, a viewing window that provides a view into the cooking chamber 3 from the front.
[0029] A side table 7 is provided on each of the two outer sides 1.3, 1.4 of the base frame 1, wherein such a side table 7 can only have a storage function or can have suspensions for grilling utensils or can comprise a cooking device, such as a side cooker or a side grill.
[0030] In the illustrated embodiment, two swing doors 5 are provided on the front side 1.1 of the base frame 1, allowing access to the cabinet 4 formed by the base frame 1. The swing doors 5 can each be pivoted laterally outward about a vertical axis 6 to provide access to the interior of the cabinet 4. Instead of two swing doors 5, a single swing door 5 covering the front side 1.1 could also be provided.
[0031] In the Figure 2 The cooking chamber 3 is shown in a plan view obliquely from above. The cooking chamber 3 is completely enclosed by a cooking chamber wall 40 in the horizontal circumferential direction, i.e. vertically. The cooking chamber wall 40 further comprises a base 50 in which several, here four, fat drip openings 52 are provided. A fat collecting tray 53 is arranged below each fat drip opening 52, as shown in the Figure 5 is shown.
[0032] The cooking chamber wall 40 has a support, here in the form of a surrounding edge or also in the form of individual support surfaces, for a grill grate 54, which is only indicated schematically. Furthermore, a support for a warming rack is provided above the grill grate 54.
[0033] In the Figure 3, the burners 14, also referred to as main burners, are shown, with which the cooking chamber 3 or the food on the grill grate 54 is cooked. The burners 14 are designed in the form of gas-carrying tubes 41, extending linearly here, with a plurality of gas outlet openings 41.1. The gas-carrying tubes 41 are mounted parallel to one another on struts 42, wherein the struts 42 are designed as hollow struts that enclose a gas channel 44, which is in gas-conducting connection with the gas-carrying channels in the tubes 41 via gas outlet openings 41.1. The struts 42 thus form flame bridges that automatically ignite the burners 14 whose flames have gone out.
[0034] For this purpose, the tubes 41 are inserted into recesses in the struts 42 so that gas outlet openings 41.1 open into the respective gas channel 44.
[0035] The channels in the tubes 41 and struts 42 can have any desired flow cross-section, for example a circular or elliptical cross-section, a rectangular cross-section, a square cross-section or a polygonal cross-section.
[0036] The tubes 41 have gas inlets 45 which are provided at the front end of each tube 41 and enable a straight inflow of gas in the longitudinal direction of the tubes 41.
[0037] The gas-carrying pipes 41 are preferably mounted exclusively on the struts 42, and the struts 42 are mounted on supports 49 in the cooking chamber wall 40. Thus, direct mounting of the burners 14 on the cooking chamber wall 40 can be avoided, and corresponding supports can be eliminated.
[0038] All components in cooking chamber 3—struts 42, pipes 41, and the shielding plates 47 covering the pipes 41—can be disassembled without tools and are mounted in cooking chamber 3. The struts 42 are mounted to the cooking chamber wall 40 with knurled screws 43, and the gas-carrying pipes 41 are mounted to the struts 42 with knurled screws 43. The knurled screws 43 can all be loosened and tightened by hand. However, other safety devices, such as plug-in safety devices, can also be provided.
[0039] The shielding plates 47 are inserted from above into impressions or indentations 48 in the struts 42, completely covering the gas outlet openings 41.1 in the pipes 41, wherein for each shielding plate 47 an indentation 48 is provided on both sides of the pipe 41 to be covered in the strut 42.
[0040] A heat insulation layer and / or heat reflection layer 51 can be cast into the bottom 50 of the cooking chamber wall 40, which protects the interior of the base frame 1 from excessive heat input.
[0041] In the Figure 4 a schematic vertical section through a cooking chamber wall 40 is shown, wherein in the region of the rear of the cooking chamber 3 a burner 14 is arranged, which can be positioned, for example, as a side burner or rear burner for a rotisserie not shown in detail here and which extends in particular with its flat front side within a vertical plane.
[0042] The burner 14 is supplied with gas via a gas line 57. Furthermore, the burner 14 can have an electric igniter for igniting the gas supplied to it. The igniter is supplied with electrical current via an electrical cable 58. The gas line 57 and / or the electrical cable 58 runs / run beneath a web 56 in the floor 50 of the cooking chamber wall 40, so that the web 56, which is preferably roof-shaped, completely shields the gas line 57 and / or the electrical cable 58 from above against dripping fat. The gas line 57 and / or the electrical cable 58 can then be routed upwards to the burner 14 on the outside on the rear side of the cooking chamber wall 40 in order to bridge the vertical distance between the burner 14 and the web 56. This is shown by dashed lines.
[0043] In the illustrated embodiment, only one of the two webs 56 covers a gas line 57 and / or an electrical cable 58. However, this could also be different. For example, corresponding components could be provided under each of the two webs 56, or one of the two webs 56 could, in particular, cover the gas line 57 and the other of the two webs 56 could cover the electrical cable 58.
[0044] The gas-carrying space in the gas line 57 is separated by the pipe routing shown between a valve 46.1 on the front of the cooking chamber 3, as shown for example in the Figure 1 shown schematically, and the burner 14 are designed with a minimal size. This allows a particularly rapid supply of gas to the burner 14 after the valve 46.1 is opened, so that the burner can be ignited without delay. List of reference symbols
