Description
[0001] The invention relates to a grill or cooker. For the sake of simplicity, we will generally refer to a grill below, which can be a tabletop grill for positioning on a table or a freestanding grill for positioning on a floor or the like.
[0002] The grill comprises an outer shell serving as a housing, a support shell arranged within the outer shell on all sides at a distance from the outer shell, a combustion unit located within the support shell, a grill grate arranged above the combustion unit and / or a container for cooking and frying, and a gas supply device which generates a fluid flow to or into the combustion unit from below the support shell.
[0003] Regarding the prior art, reference is made to EP 1 838 187 B1 and EP 2 785 227 B1, for example only. This publication discloses a charcoal grill in which the combustion unit is designed as a charcoal combustion chamber.
[0004] A key feature of the well-known charcoal grill is that it has a charcoal combustion chamber within a housing, which is closed by a lid during operation. The lid can be either solid or perforated. A stepped perforated version of the lid is also known. The charcoal combustion chamber sits on a firelighter and can be supplied with outside air from below the firelighter, which facilitates the ignition process using firelighter paste and also the combustion of the charcoal.
[0005] A wide variety of charcoal combustion chamber designs are known from practice, particularly with differently shaped walls. Perforations or slits in the wall are intended to promote heat radiation to the sides and ultimately to the grill grate.
[0006] In practice, the well-known charcoal grill has proven itself. Provided the charcoal combustion chamber is securely positioned within the housing, meaning it cannot tilt, the grill offers a considerable degree of safety. It has also been shown that using suitable charcoal, for example, from LotusGrill GmbH, the grill can produce little smoke. The actual smoke development therefore depends largely on the food being grilled.
[0007] Recently, for example, bans on the use of charcoal have been increasingly imposed in parks and public green spaces. Fire hazards, increased environmental pollution, and the perceived higher CO2 emissions of charcoal grills compared to electric or gas grills are cited as reasons for this. Picnic enthusiasts are often only confronted with local requirements or rules when they arrive at the location, often stating that the use of an otherwise popular charcoal grill is not permitted. Grills with alternative fuels / heating options, such as gas or electric grills, are often unavailable. An electric grill is hardly an option anyway, due to the lack of a power connection or a sufficiently powerful battery.
[0008] KR 2015 0000117 A describes a generic grill or cooker in which a charcoal burner unit can be exchanged for a gas burner unit and vice versa. The document remains vague about exactly how this is to be done. In particular, it fails to consider safety aspects.
[0009] The invention is based on the task of designing and developing a conventional grill or stove in such a way that it can be operated in the proven way with charcoal as well as with gas, while simultaneously complying with legal regulations. The grill or stove should be simple in design and easy to use. Furthermore, it should be different from competitive products.
[0010] The above object is achieved by a grill or cooker with the features of claim 1. According to this, a charcoal combustion unit or a gas combustion unit, together with specific connection elements, can be used as the combustion unit, wherein, when the combustion unit is used accordingly, a directed air flow can be conducted into or to the charcoal combustion unit via the gas supply device, or a combustible gas can be conducted into or to the gas combustion unit, and wherein in the base area of the outer shell, under the support shell, preferably on a base plate, a changing mechanism is arranged which can only be operated when the combustion chamber is removed and upon operation of which, after a defined working position for the respective combustion device has been reached, an insertion and activation of the respective combustion chamber, including the specific connection elements, is possible.
[0011] According to the invention, it was recognized that the known grill is particularly suitable for universal use if a more or less conventional charcoal burner unit and a gas burner unit are interchangeable with little effort. This means that specific connecting elements must be exchanged with the respective burner unit so that the burner unit functions properly with the respective fuel.
[0012] Depending on the combustion unit used - conventional charcoal combustion unit or gas combustion unit - this can be supplied with a fluid via the gas supply device as usual, specifically in the case of the charcoal combustion unit a directed air flow and in the case of the gas combustion unit a combustible gas can be fed into the combustion unit.
[0013] For the function of the system relating to the use of the charcoal combustion unit, reference is made to EP 2 785 227 B1, the content of which is hereby incorporated into the disclosure of the invention underlying this document.
[0014] The grill or cooker according to the invention is a self-contained device comprising two different combustion units designed for interchangeable use, which can be done manually, preferably without tools. Depending on your needs, you can choose between using it as a charcoal grill or a gas grill, which provides enormous flexibility for the grill or cooker. It is therefore a hybrid grill.
[0015] The charcoal combustion chamber includes a housing for holding the charcoal. The housing can be designed in a variety of ways. It is preferably perforated or slotted to ensure optimal heat dissipation during operation.
[0016] The bottom of the casing can be offset inward, so that the wall extends downwards above the bottom, forming a kind of cavity beneath the actual combustion chamber. The bottom is perforated so that the air required for ignition and combustion can flow through the bottom into the casing and into the charcoal.
[0017] The housing rests with its lower edge on or in a firelighter tray, into which a firelighter paste or similar material is poured before lighting. The firelighter tray is positioned centrally in the support tray, with an air pipe extending through the center of the firelighter tray into the air distribution chamber formed between the floor of the charcoal combustion chamber and the firelighter tray. This chamber is supplied with air via an electric fan located in the floor area of the outer tray. The fan can be controlled with respect to the air flow to be conveyed or with respect to the heat to be generated.
[0018] For further function and design, please refer in full to EP 2 785 227 B1.
[0019] The charcoal combustion chamber includes a preferably perforated lid, which forces the hot air generated by combustion radially outward through the wall of the charcoal combustion chamber. Furthermore, the lid allows the charcoal combustion chamber to be secured between the grill grate and the support tray, if necessary using a lifting eyelet located centrally there, by clamping the grill grate. This ensures a fixed position of the charcoal combustion chamber, which promotes safe operation of the grill.
[0020] As already stated above, the grill or cooker according to the invention is equipped with a removable system, namely, it comprises an additional combustion unit designed as a gas combustion chamber in the sense of a closed unit. The combustion chamber of the gas combustion unit is equipped similarly to the combustion chamber of the charcoal combustion unit. Thus, a preferably perforated or slotted housing is also provided there. Here, too, radial heat radiation is intended to be promoted.
[0021] The gas combustion chamber has a floor that can be offset inward, like the charcoal combustion chamber. However, this is not mandatory.
[0022] A gas burner, such as those used in camping stoves, is located near the bottom of the housing. The gas burner sits on a gas riser pipe that extends through the bottom of the gas combustion chamber, below and thus outside the gas combustion chamber, to an internal gas connection. The internal gas connection is connected via an internal gas line to an external gas connection for direct or indirect connection to a gas cylinder or similar device. All gas connections are gas-tight and feature appropriate sealants.
[0023] The gas riser pipe is equipped outside the gas combustion chamber, preferably in the lower area, with an air inlet defined by a bore or with a variable flow cross-section in order to add outside air to the combustion gas, for example butane or propane, and thus influence the combustion of the gas or the flame.
[0024] It is also advantageous to be able to influence the flow cross-section of the incoming gas, wherever it is, in order to be able to adjust the flame and thus the grill temperature.
[0025] Another advantageous feature is an opening for the introduction of an ignition device in the wall of the gas combustion chamber, approximately at the level of the gas burner or slightly above it. This allows the escaping gas to be ignited, in the simplest case, with a match or long lighter. It is also conceivable for a piezo igniter to protrude into the gas combustion chamber and be mounted there in a stationary manner. In any case, the ignition device could be electrical, mechanical, or a combination of both.
[0026] As with the charcoal combustion chamber, the gas combustion chamber must also be securely seated within the support shell. For this purpose, the gas combustion chamber can include a lower base, or a separate base can be provided on which the gas combustion chamber sits. The base serves to securely position the gas combustion chamber on the support shell; this can be done using individual feet or a ring-shaped, closed foot. Secure stability is also ensured by positioning and screwing in the gas riser pipe, which can be supported on the support shell, an intermediate plate, and a base plate. It is also conceivable for the gas riser pipe to be supported, guided, or held by a sleeve between the gas combustion chamber and the internal gas connection device.
[0027] In a further advantageous manner, the gas combustion chamber comprises a preferably perforated cover firmly attached to the combustion chamber housing, which allows the gas combustion chamber to be immovably secured between the grill grate and the support tray. This measure corresponds to the fastening of the charcoal combustion chamber, with the same advantages.
[0028] The previously discussed example refers to the use of a gas combustion chamber for grilling. This means that, as with the charcoal combustion chamber, a lockable or tensionable grill grate is provided above the gas combustion chamber. Above this, a kind of railing can be provided to secure the grilled food all around. The grill grate and railing can be designed as a single piece.
[0029] Within the scope of a further embodiment of the cooker according to the invention, it is conceivable for the gas combustion unit to comprise, in addition to the gas burner, a preferably circumferential or sectionally designed base for positioning a container, for example for positioning a pot, a pan or the like above the gas burner. In this case, the gas burner is arranged below the level of the base, wherein, as in the previously described embodiment of the gas burner, a gas riser pipe extends through the base and the support tray downwards to an inner gas connection device, which is fluidly connected to an outer gas connection device for the direct or indirect connection of a gas cylinder or the like. The same statements apply here as for the previously mentioned embodiment with a gas combustion chamber and grill grate. It is further advantageous if, in the embodiment in question here, the gas burner unit comprises a support device with which the gas burner unit is positioned in the support tray in a supporting manner, especially since the base is used to position and hold a filled cooking pot, for example. Accordingly, the support device serves to stiffen and stabilize the arrangement, with the gas burner being held by the gas riser, possibly an intermediate base, and the internal gas connection device. Secure stability is ensured when the gas burner is connected and, if necessary, screwed to the gas riser.
[0030] Furthermore, it has been recognized that for safe replacement and operation, it is necessary to provide a special changeover mechanism that can be operated with the combustion chamber removed. Upon activation of this mechanism, once a defined working position for the respective combustion device has been reached, it can be inserted and activated, including the specific connecting elements. This means that with the combustion chamber removed, the type of combustion chamber to be used—charcoal combustion chamber or gas combustion chamber—can be selected by operating the changeover mechanism, namely by reaching a defined working position for the respective combustion chamber.
[0031] The changeover mechanism can be designed in a variety of ways. Preferably, the changeover mechanism comprises a slider device that can be moved or pivoted from a position accommodating / activating the charcoal combustion chamber to a position accommodating / activating the gas combustion chamber by actuating it from the side outside or below the housing. The position set by the slider device can be indicated by a display element located outside or below the housing using appropriate markings.
[0032] Specifically, the slider device comprises a slider which, in the position for connecting the charcoal combustion unit, carries an air connection unit comprising the fan and an air guide chamber up to an insertion opening of the air inlet pipe. In the position for connecting the gas combustion unit, the slider comprises a gas-tight screw or plug connection for the gas riser pipe with an internal gas connection and a flow connection to the external gas connection. Depending on the position of the slider, simple insertion and thus simple connection of either the charcoal combustion chamber or the gas combustion chamber is possible. In the case of the charcoal combustion chamber, this involves a quasi-automatic connection to the air supply, and in the case of the gas combustion chamber, this involves a quasi-automatic connection to the supply of combustible gas to the gas burner.
[0033] For easy handling of the grill or cooker according to the invention, it is advantageous if the changeover mechanism has a locking or latching mechanism for the respective operating position. This gives the user the feeling of proper adjustment after each locking, and a certain amount of force is required to "switch" to the other position.
[0034] Finally, it is particularly advantageous if the external gas connection device is automatically or forcibly locked when the changeover mechanism is in the position where the charcoal combustion chamber is received / activated. This is to prevent gas from being directed into the interior of the housing when the charcoal combustion chamber is connected. The blocking can be achieved mechanically via the slide device or via a separate locking device, in the simplest case by blocking the connection socket for inserting / screwing in the gas connection line from the outside of the housing. Only when the changeover mechanism is in the position for inserting the gas combustion unit is the external gas connection released, allowing, for example, a flexible gas line to be inserted into a gas connection socket using conventional connecting means and screwed in if necessary.
[0035] There are now various possibilities for advantageously embodying and developing the teaching of the present invention. For this purpose, reference is made, on the one hand, to the claims subordinate to claim 1 and, on the other hand, to the following explanation of preferred embodiments of the invention with reference to the drawing. In conjunction with the explanation of the preferred embodiments of the invention with reference to the drawing, generally preferred embodiments and developments of the teaching are also explained. The drawing shows: Fig. 1 shows a schematic exploded view of the essential "external" components of the grill according to the invention, without showing the actual combustion chamber. Fig. 2 shows a schematic view, partially in section, of the grill according to the invention with an inserted charcoal combustion chamber. Fig. 3 shows a schematic view, partially in section, of the grill according to the invention with an inserted gas combustion chamber. Fig. 4 shows a schematic view, partially in section, of an embodiment of a cooker according to the invention with an inserted gas burner. Fig. 5 shows a schematic view, from the outside and in detail from the inside, of the external gas connection with the internal locking device in the open state. Fig. 6 shows a schematic view, from the outside and in detail from the inside, of the external gas connection with the internal locking device in the locked state.
[0036] Fig. 1 shows in a schematic exploded view the "external" components of the grill according to the invention, namely, starting from the bottom, the housing 1, the support tray 2 which can be inserted into the housing 1 and the grill grate 3 which can be arranged above it.
[0037] Furthermore, Fig. 1 It can be seen that the housing 1 has an inner base 4 in the lower area, in the sense of an intermediate floor, under or on which electrical and, if necessary, mechanical components can be arranged. From outside the housing 1, a rotary knob 5 is visible, which serves to switch on and off and to regulate a fan arranged under the inner base 4.
[0038] Lower passages 6 are provided in the wall of the housing 1 for drawing in outside air. Upper passages 7 serve to ventilate the space between the support shell 2 and the housing 1.
[0039] The support tray 2 is placed with its edge region 8 onto the free edge of the housing 1 and secured there by means of clamping devices 9 that engage the grill grate 3. Ultimately, the clamping devices 9 are clamps that engage on both sides and firmly connect the grill grate 3 and thus also the support tray 2 to the housing 1.
[0040] In the edge area 8 of the support tray 2, recesses 10 are provided, which serve to positionally insert feet 11 of the grill grate 3. This measure allows the grill grate 3 to be ideally positioned, with the clamping devices 9 or the clamping clips provided there engaging with lateral fastening tabs 12 on the grill grate 3. By tightening the clamping devices 9, the grill grate 3 is firmly connected to the housing 1, with the support tray 2 interposed, which is also fixed in place. In the assembled position, a heat-insulating air space is created between the housing 1 and the support tray 2, which is ventilated from behind via the upper passages 7.The recesses 10 in the upper edge area of the support tray 2 serve, on the one hand, for inserting feet 11 of the grill grate 3 and, on the other hand, for the escape of warm / hot air from the interior of the housing 1, more precisely from the area between the housing 1 and the support tray 2. The recesses 10 thus promote rear ventilation.
[0041] The grill grate 3 comprises a surrounding railing 13 and is provided in the middle with a closed, corrugated grill surface 14, the edge area of which can be designed to slope at least slightly downwards to allow fat to drip off.
[0042] Fig. 2 shows the grill according to the invention with an inserted charcoal combustion chamber 15. The charcoal combustion chamber 15 has a perforated wall and is closed with a lid 16. The lid 16 is equipped with a lifting eye 17, which serves to attach a grill grate 18 from below. A double rail 19 is provided above the grill grate 18 to secure the food to the side.
[0043] The charcoal combustion chamber 15 has a perforated bottom 20, the perforation serving to allow outside air to flow into the interior of the charcoal combustion chamber.
[0044] Furthermore, a firelighter tray 21, which can be coated with firelighter paste, is provided below the charcoal combustion chamber 15. The charcoal combustion chamber 15 rests with its lower edge in the firelighter tray 21 and is more or less immovable there.
[0045] In the center of the ignition bowl 21, a passage 22a is provided, through which an air inlet pipe 23 extends through the carrier bowl 2 to an intermediate floor 24. A passage 22b is also provided in the intermediate floor 24, after which the intermediate floor 24 opens into an air space 25, which is supplied with outside air via a fan 26. In other words, the ignition bowl 21 and the carrier bowl 2 are placed around the air inlet pipe 23. The intermediate floor 24 opens into an air space 25, which is supplied with outside air via a fan 26. The fan 26 can be operated from outside the housing 1 via a switch 27. Batteries or rechargeable batteries are provided in a battery compartment 28 for power supply.
[0046] Fig. 2 also shows the provision of a slide device 29, over which a slide 30 can be moved. In the Fig. 2 In the state shown, the slide 30 is in the position releasing the air flow from the air space 25 to the air inlet pipe 23. The external gas connection device 31 is blocked by a blocking element 32, wherein the blocking element 32 can be moved into the blocking position according to Fig. 2 The rod 33 serves to actuate or move the slide device 29 or the slide 30.
[0047] With regard to the Fig. 2 gas connection not activated by the slide device 29 shows Fig. 2 the external gas connection device 31 in the state blocked by the blocking element 32, the external gas connection 34, an internal gas connection line 35 and an internal gas connection 36, which, when angled or rotated by 90°, has an internal thread 37 for inserting and screwing in a Fig. 2 gas riser pipe not shown.
[0048] Fig. 3 shows the grill according to the invention with an inserted gas combustion chamber 38. The gas combustion chamber 38, like the charcoal combustion chamber, comprises a perforated housing 1 with a cover 16 attached thereto, the cover 16 being firmly connected to the housing 1. The grill grate 18 with the railing 19 is arranged above the cover 16 or above a lifting eye 17, thereby securing the gas combustion chamber 38.
[0049] Furthermore, the gas combustion chamber 38 comprises an opening 39 in the lower area through which the gas can be ignited from outside.
[0050] A gas burner 40 is arranged within the gas combustion chamber 38 and is supplied with gas via a gas riser pipe 41. The connection between the gas riser pipe 41 and the gas burner 40 is gas-tight.
[0051] According to the presentation in Fig. 3 The gas combustion chamber 38 stands on the support shell 2 and is positioned there by means of a support device 42. The support device 42 can be an integral part of the gas combustion chamber 38, in particular of the inwardly offset base 43 there.
[0052] The gas riser pipe 41 extends from the gas burner 40 through the base 43 of the gas combustion chamber 38, through a central passage in the support shell 2, and through an intermediate base 24, which encloses or supports the slide device 29. The slide device 29 or the slide 30 is in the position serving to connect the gas combustion chamber 38, so that the gas riser pipe 41 can be screwed into a connection block 44 of the internal gas connection 36. Suitable sealing means 45 can be interposed.
[0053] From outside the housing 1, i.e. via an external gas connection device 31, the gas coming from a gas tank, for example a cartridge, a gas cartridge, etc., if necessary with the interposition of a regulator, can flow in and reaches the gas burner 40 via the provided flow path.
[0054] Fig. 3 Furthermore, it shows that the locking element 32 is in the open position. By means of the rod 33, the slide 30 or the locking device 29 is moved into the position suitable for connecting the gas combustion chamber 38. In this position, the air inlet pipe 23 serves as a gas riser pipe 41.
[0055] Fig. 4 shows a further embodiment with the gas burner 40 inserted, without the provision of a gas combustion chamber.
[0056] A base 46 is provided around the gas burner 40, which can comprise individual base elements, for example, finger-shaped. The base 46 serves to position a pot 47. The gas burner 40 is arranged at a lower level centrally in the area of the base 46, which in turn is supported by a gas riser 41. For stabilization relative to the carrier tray 2, a special support element 48 is provided, which can be attached directly to the gas riser 41 or to a sleeve 49 surrounding the gas riser 41.
[0057] With regard to the connection to an external gas supply or to a gas storage facility as well as with regard to the flow path of the gas and finally also with regard to the function of the slide device, in order to avoid repetition, reference should be made to the description of the figures of Fig. 3 referred to.
[0058] The Fig. 5 and 6show, in part, an external view of the housing 1 with ventilation slots 50. The housing 1 is positioned on support studs 51. These studs can be, at least partially, height-adjustable.
[0059] The Fig. 5 and 6 show from outside the housing 1 the external gas connection 34 with a gas connection socket 52 for locking insertion or screwing in of a conventional gas connection with gas connection line. According to the illustration in Fig. 5 Due to the slide position not shown, the locking element 32 is away from the insertion area. The gas connection socket 52 is thus free, and an external gas connection element can be inserted.
[0060] Fig. 6 shows the gas connection socket 52 in the locked state, after which the external gas connection device 31 is closed via the locking element 32.
[0061] With regard to further advantageous embodiments of the device according to the invention, reference is made to the general part of the description and to the appended claims in order to avoid repetition.
[0062] Finally, it should be expressly pointed out that the embodiments of the device according to the invention described above serve only to explain the claimed teaching, but do not limit it to the embodiments. Bezugszeichenliste
