Description

Technical field

[0001] The invention relates to a filter element for filtering air, comprising a filter body with a pleated filter medium. State of the art

[0002] Such filter elements are well known from the prior art.

[0003] DE 10 2009 056 511 A1 relates to a filter element with a pleated pack. A plastic frame is injection-molded onto the pleated pack. A plastic foam seal is foamed onto the plastic frame.

[0004] US 5,795,361 A discloses an air filter element in which a pleated filter medium is arranged within a plastic frame. The filter medium is held to the plastic frame by a sealing material, which is used to seal against a filter housing in which the air filter element is located.

[0005] DE 10 2019 120646 A1 discloses a filter element comprising a pleated pack made of zigzag-folded filter material and a frame element attached to the pleated pack, at least partially surrounding the pleated pack, and projecting laterally. A frame assembly is attached to the frame element, the frame assembly being designed as an injection-molded plastic part molded onto the laterally projecting frame element.

[0006] EP 3 744 414 A1 discloses a filter for filtering a fluid flow, comprising a frame and a filter element housed in the frame, wherein the filter element has a pleated filter medium forming a bellows, and the bellows is provided with at least one edge band. A filter is disclosed which combines low material consumption, good manufacturing properties, and high tightness. It is disclosed that such a filter can be achieved through a special design of the edge band. The edge band is made of compressible material and has a height greater than the height of the bellows and, in the area where it extends beyond the height of the bellows, is folded over at a fold edge of the edge band and is thus partially double-layered.

[0007] Especially with large air filter elements, a sufficiently rigid and stable mounting on a filter housing is required due to their own weight and the weight of the trapped dust. At the same time, a reliable seal between the filter element and the filter housing or its housing components is necessary.

[0008] The object of the invention is to provide a filter element that can be manufactured cost-effectively and securely fixed to a filter housing. Disclosure of the invention

[0009] This problem is solved by a filter element having the features specified in claim 1, an air filter according to claim 14, and a filter system according to claim 15. Preferred embodiments are specified in the dependent claims and the description. The filter element according to the invention has the following features: a) a filter body comprising a pleated filter medium; b) a first side band made of a fibrous material, with a sealing section that seals the filter body at an end face extending transversely to the folded edges of the filter medium, and with a first tab projecting from the sealing section, preferably extending in the direction of the folded edges; c) a circumferential seal that encompasses the first tab.

[0010] Fiber-reinforced material for the first sideband is advantageously characterized by comparatively high flexural stiffness and low production costs. The fiber material preferably consists of cellulose or plastics, for example, synthetic fibers, especially polyesters such as PET or CoPET. Cellulose, particularly cellulose fibers, allows for high flexural stiffness and tensile strength of the sideband while simultaneously offering biodegradability and thus high environmental compatibility. Synthetic fibers also offer high tensile strength and stiffness and can be made, at least partially, from recycled plastics, which is ecologically advantageous. In some filter element designs, the fiber-reinforced material can be coated. Alternatively or additionally to the fiber-reinforced material, the first sideband can consist of plastic films, preferably of varying thicknesses, foam material, and / or cardboard.

[0011] In particular, the direction of a fold edge is defined as the direction of a straight line running along that fold edge. The fold edges are preferably oriented parallel to each other. The first tab is generally directed away from the filter body. Preferably, the first tab is attached to the sideband on the side of the sideband opposite the filter bellows. Preferably, the orientation of the fold edges coincides with the orientation of the first tab. The seal is preferably arranged on the entire surface of the first tab. If the tab is arranged at the end, the seal engages, in particular, in folds of the filter body to which it is attached. In addition to separating a raw air chamber from a clean air chamber, the seal also serves to fix the filter element in the filter housing. The sealing section of the sideband serves to seal the filter element at the open sides of the folds. The first tab of the first sideband ensures a more stable connection of the seal to the sideband. This improved connection is achieved, firstly, because the tab increases the sealing surface area. Secondly, the tab mechanically stiffens the seal. The tab prevents the seal from detaching, for example, by peeling. This is particularly advantageous when the filter elements are clamped at their seal without additional support from the housing, e.g., in building filter units with typical frames according to DIN EN 15805, especially for accommodating seals with thicknesses of 25 mm and 20 mm.The stiffness of the seal and the pull-off forces at the interface on the rest of the filter element must be designed in such a way that the static and / or dynamic loads do not cause any significant deformation, leakage or peeling of the seal from the rest of the filter element over the component's lifetime.

[0012] In preferred embodiments, the filter body has a profile perpendicular to the folded edges of the pleats, which is composed of individual bellows arranged one after the other. In other words, the filter element can be a V-bank filter or a W-bank filter, preferably with several filter bellows. The individual bellows are arranged in a V-shape or a W-shape. The pleats of the filter body preferably run in a zigzag pattern along the legs of the profiles. In particular, end pleats can be arranged one after the other at the ends of the individual bellows to provide attachment surfaces for the seal.

[0013] The filter body is preferably glued to the side panel.

[0014] The term "circumferential" here means, in particular, that the seal surrounds the filter body. The end faces of the filter element refer specifically to the sides of the filter element that define its boundaries in the direction of the fold edges. The term "fold edges" refers specifically to the creases of the folds and / or to the crest lines of the folds if the folds are curved. The sealing section is preferably designed as a wall-like component.

[0015] The sealing section on the first sideband typically extends in a longitudinal direction and a vertical direction of the filter body. The longitudinal direction generally runs transversely to the orientation of the folded edges. In particular, the profile of the filter body runs in the longitudinal direction of the filter body. The vertical direction of the filter body can run perpendicular to the orientation of the folded edges and perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the filter body. For the purposes of describing the present invention, the terms "top" and "bottom" refer specifically to the vertical direction.

[0016] In a non-inventive embodiment of the filter element, the first tab is arranged at the end of the sealing section. This simplifies the manufacture of the side band. Furthermore, in this embodiment, the material consumption for the seal can be reduced, particularly on an outer side of the sealing section. Within the scope of the present invention, "end" refers in particular to a position at an upper or lower edge of the sealing section, wherein the upper and lower edges of the sealing section are spaced apart from each other in the vertical axis direction and extend in the longitudinal or circumferential direction of the filter body.

[0017] In this filter element, the sealing section extends on both sides of the first tab. The first tab is located in the vertical axis direction between the upper and lower edges of the sealing section. In this embodiment, the seal also extends along the outer surface of the sealing section facing away from the filter body, thereby increasing the sealing contact area. This results in a more stable seal. In this design, the seal can preferably be positioned away from, particularly the upper, edge of the filter element along its height, which advantageously allows for a lower overall height. Furthermore, for vertically mounted filter elements, the weight distribution can be improved, thus minimizing the moments acting on the seal. The term "vertical" refers specifically to the direction of gravity.Vertically mounted filter elements are oriented such that their inflow area extends vertically. Furthermore, this allows for the connection of a seal running parallel to the horizontal, even with filter elements that have a geometry other than a cuboid, such as a wedge shape. This design is particularly advantageous for large, heavy filter elements.

[0018] In some embodiments of the filter element, the first tab is formed as a single layer. In these embodiments, the side band has an L-profile in cross-section, with two legs projecting from each other. The tab can project from the sealing section in such a way that the sealing section and the tab form an L-profile in cross-section. This applies particularly to embodiments in which the tab and the sealing section are formed as a single piece. With a single-layer tab, a stronger connection of the seal can be achieved in a comparatively material-saving manner, particularly by increasing the contact area.

[0019] In alternative embodiments of the filter element, the first tab is multi-layered, particularly double-layered. This gives the tab a particularly high bending stiffness. The two layers of the tab are preferably connected to each other by a curved section of the tab or a folded edge. In such an embodiment, the side band is designed, particularly in cross-section, with a T-profile. This T-profile is preferably composed of two adjacent L-profiles. One leg of one L-profile abuts a leg of the other L-profile. The legs of the L-profiles that do not abut each other can preferably extend along the sealing section, particularly in the vertical axis direction, or form the sealing section.

[0020] In a further development of the aforementioned embodiment, the two layers of the first tab are bonded together. This prevents the layers of the tab from shifting relative to each other, thus further increasing the stability of the tab.

[0021] In a preferred embodiment of the filter element, the first tab is glued to the sealing section of the first side band. This gluing action provides a time-saving way to attach the tab to the sealing section.

[0022] In advantageous embodiments of the filter element, the first tab and the sealing section of the first side band are formed integrally. This results in a particularly stable connection between the tab and the sealing section.

[0023] Advantageously, the first side band consists of a non-woven material or cardboard. Such fiber materials are inexpensive to produce. Furthermore, they are easy to recycle. Cardboard, in particular, is characterized by high flexural stiffness at relatively low production costs.

[0024] Preferably, the first tab has through-holes that are penetrated by the seal. The seal covers opposing sides of the tab and extends through the through-holes. Thus, the tab and the seal form a positive fit in the area of the through-holes, ensuring that the seal is held particularly securely to the tab.

[0025] In advantageous embodiments, the seal consists of a foamed material, in particular polyurethane foam. By using foam as the material, the seal can be easily applied directly to the tab, conforming to its shape. Polyurethane foam can be manufactured with various degrees of hardness and density and has advantageous properties for use in air filters.

[0026] Preferred embodiments of the filter element have a second sideband with a second tab, wherein the second sideband seals the filter body at a second end face extending transversely to the folded edges. The filter body is located between the first and second sidebands. The second sideband seals the filter element by covering the second end face of the filter body. The second tab ensures a stronger connection of the seal to the second sideband and thus to the filter element. The second sideband is preferably designed like the first sideband. The second tab is particularly designed like the first tab.

[0027] In a further development of the aforementioned embodiments, a third and a fourth tab are arranged on the filter body between the first and second side bands, with the first, second, third, and fourth tabs adjoining each other in pairs and surrounding the filter body. The third and fourth tabs each extend from the first to the second side band. The third and fourth tabs are directed outwards away from the filter body. The four tabs provide a stronger connection and stiffening to the seal along its entire circumference.

[0028] In further embodiments, a stiffening element is arranged at least on the first tab, the stiffening element preferably being designed as a circumferential plastic ring. The stiffening element further increases the bending stiffness of the tab. In some embodiments, the stiffening element rests on the tab. In particular, the stiffening element is bonded to the tab by a material-bonded and / or form-fit connection, preferably inserted into and / or glued into the tab. The latter is particularly preferred in embodiments where the tab is designed with two layers. The stiffening element is especially preferably arranged on the first, second, third, and fourth tabs of the filter element.

[0029] Another embodiment of the filter element is characterized by at least one headband, and in particular several headbands, on an end face. The end face or the headband runs perpendicular to the sealing section and along a lateral edge of the sealing section. Preferably, the headbands and the sidebands together form a continuous band that completely seals the filter element laterally.

[0030] The air filter according to the invention comprises a filter element as described above and a filter housing comprising a filter pot and a filter lid, wherein the seal is held clamped between the filter pot and the filter lid. The filter housing typically has an inlet for contaminated air and an outlet for the air cleaned by the filter element. The seal seals the filter element against the filter housing, preventing contaminated air from flowing past the filter element and through the filter housing. The seal separates a raw side and a clean side of the air filter from each other.

[0031] The filter system according to the invention comprises a filter element according to one of the aforementioned embodiments and a flow channel through which an airflow can pass, the filter element extending perpendicular to the direction of the airflow through the flow channel. The filter element divides the flow channel into a raw air side and a clean air side. Contaminated air flows in an airflow from the raw air side to the clean air side through the filter element. Preferably, the filter element is fastened in the flow channel by engaging with a profile frame, in particular by frictional and / or positive locking. The filter element is held in the profile frame, in particular, by a clamping force on the seal of the filter element. The profile frame preferably has a height of 16 mm to 21 mm and a depth of 20 mm to 25 mm. Preferably, the profile frame is designed according to DIN EN 15805.The flow channel can be equipped with a maintenance access point. The filter system is preferably used in building air supply systems. Brief description of the drawings

[0037] The seal 24 runs along the upper edges 46a of the sealing sections 40a, 40b and along the end folds 50 (see Fig. 5 ) of the end surfaces 48a, 48b continuously around the filter body 26, around the filter element 12a against the filter housing 14 (see Figure 1 ) to seal.

[0038] In Figure 4 is a cross-section through the first embodiment of the filter element 12aThe area of the first lateral band 38a is shown. Among other things, the sealing section 40a of the first lateral band 38a is shown, where folds are present. 52 of the filter body 26. The sealing section 40a extends into a first tab located at the end, on the upper edge 46a of the sealing section 40a. 54a over, which projects towards the fold edges 44a, 44b of the folds 52 from the sealing section 40a. The first side band 38a is formed in one piece here; the same piece of fibrous material forms the sealing section 40a and the first flap 54a.

[0039] The first tab 54a is directed away from the filter body 26. The first tab 54a is inserted into the seal 24, so that the seal 24 encompasses the first tab 54a. In the first embodiment 12a of the filter element shown, the first tab 54a is designed as a single layer and forms an L-profile in cross-section with the sealing section 40a. A through-opening 58aThe seal 24 penetrates the first tab 54a to more securely attach the seal 24 to the first tab 54a. The seal 24 extends from the first tab 54a to at least some of the folds 52 of the filter body 26, to which it is firmly connected and into which it engages. In addition to sealing the filter element 12a against the filter housing 14, the seal 24 also... Figure 1 ) improved attachment of the filter body 26 to the first sideband 38a. The second sideband 38b has a second tab corresponding to the first tab 54a, which is not shown in detail.

[0040] Figure 5 Figure 1 shows a longitudinal section through the first embodiment of the filter element 12a in the region of the first end surface 48a. The folds 52 of the filter body 26 are arranged in a folding direction 60 that is parallel to the lateral edge 46d of the first sealing section 40a (see Figure 1). Figure 3 ) is directed at the legs of the V-profiles (see Figure 2 ) folded successively. A third flap 54b is attached, in particular glued, to an end fold 50 of the filter body 26, wherein the third flap 54b is enclosed by the seal 24. The third flap 54b also has a through-opening. 58b The third tab 54b is inserted into the second end face 48b, through which the seal 24 penetrates, in order to better attach the seal 24 to the third tab 54b. The third tab 54b is inclined to the folding direction 60 of the pleats 52 of the filter body 26. A fourth tab, corresponding to the third tab 54b and not shown in detail, is arranged on the second end face 48b.

[0041] Figure 6 shows a cross-section through a second embodiment of the filter element 12b in the area of the first sealing section 40a. In contrast to the first embodiment 12a of the filter element (see Figure 4The first tab 54a is formed here in two layers, as is a second tab (not shown) on the second sealing section 40b. The first side band 38a, or the first tab 54a together with the first sealing section 40a, has a T-profile in cross-section. The first sealing section 40a extends on both sides of the first tab 54a, with the first sealing section 40a being formed with one of the layers on each side. 64a , 64b The double-layered first tab 54a forms an L-profile in cross-section. The two layers 64a, 64b of the first tab 54a merge into one another via a curved section of the first tab 54a. The seal 24 encloses both layers 64a, 64b of the first tab 54a and extends through a through-opening 58a that runs through both layers 64a, 64b.

[0042] Figure 7Figure 1 shows a longitudinal section through the second embodiment of the filter element 12b in the region of the first end surface 48a. In contrast to the first embodiment 12a of the filter element, the third tab 54b is also formed in two layers, as is a fourth tab (not shown) on the second end surface 48b. The two layers 64c , 64d The third tab 54b each form a leg of an L-profile in cross-section. The adjacent layers 64c, 64d, connected by a curved section of the tab 54b, are oriented at an angle to the first end surface 48a, which is parallel to the lateral edge 46d of the sealing section 40a (see Fig. 3 ) runs parallel to the longitudinal direction 32 (see Figure 3 ) of the filter body 26. The third tab 54b is attached to the adjacent end fold 50 of the filter body 26, in particular glued, and can be supported on folded edges 44a of the first end surface 48a.

[0043] Figure 8 shows a schematic perspective view of a third embodiment of the filter element. 12c , which, apart from the lateral ligaments 38a, 38b (see Figure 3 ), of which the side band 38b can be seen as an example in the figure, head bands on the end faces 48a, 48b (see Figure 3 ) exhibits, of which in the Figure 8An example of a headband 39a can be seen. The headbands serve in particular to seal the end faces 48a, 48b. The headbands and the sidebands 38a, 38b together form a circumferential overall band 66, which, together with the seal 24, seals the filter element 12a laterally. The headbands and / or the sidebands 38a, 38b are made of cardboard. The filter body 26 projects beyond the seal 24 in the vertical axis 34 with a surface inclined to the vertical axis 34. The filter body 26 can have folds of varying heights, so that the height of the filter element 12c increases, for example, from end face 48a to end face 48b. The tabs for attaching the seal can advantageously be formed by folding the respective sideband 38a, 38b or headband 39a, 39b and thus be double-layered. Alternatively, a two-part formation of the lateral ligaments and / or head ligaments is possible, i.e.Two sealing sections are applied overlapping to the respective side surfaces of the filter body to be covered, and the tab is formed on the sealing section above the other by bending over the free end section. This would also allow the formation of a single-layer tab spaced apart from the upstream and downstream sides. The seal is preferably foamed onto the tab.

[0044] Figure 9 schematically shows a filter system 68 with a flow channel 70, in which a filter element, here exemplified in the first embodiment 12a, is enclosed by a profile frame 72 The filter element 12a extends through the cross-section of the flow channel 70. The filter element 12a thus divides the flow channel 70 into a raw air side. 74 and a clean air side 76. Contaminated air flows in an airstream. 78from the raw air side 74 to the clean air side 76 through the filter element 12a. The filter element 12a is held in the profile frame 72, in particular by frictional and / or form-fitting means, for example by a clamping force on the seal 24. The flow channel 70 may be equipped with a maintenance access point (not shown). Reference symbol list
