AI Technical Summary
[0014]In another embodiment of the window frame according to the invention the width of the channel is substantially equal to the length of the lintel. Maximizing the width of the channel enables the height of the channel to remain as small as possible so that the thickness of the lintel need not be unnecessarily high either, which would impact the appearance of the window frame.
Description
[0001] The invention relates to a window frame according to the preamble of claim 1.
[0002] Such window frames are generally known, for example from US 2007 028539, and are made in various versions. A known embodiment is the so-called Dutch sliding window or sash window, which is used in many old homes. Municipalities will often designate such old homes as objects of cultural and historic value or even as monuments. As a result, the owner of the home is bound by numerous rules which aim to ensure that the appearance of the home is not affected.
[0003] It is further desirable for old homes to be modified in order to comply with currently prevailing insulation values as much as possible. One measure for complying therewith is to replace the window frames with plastic frames and to use insulating glass therein. Such an improvement further necessitates sufficient ventilation to be realized, so that the internal climate in the home is not adversely affected.
[0004] In order to maintain good ventilation when insulating glass is placed, it is common to arrange a ventilation grille along the upper edge of the insulating glass and the window frame.
[0005] In renovation of old homes the use of a ventilation grille between the insulating glass and the window frame is increasingly no longer allowed by municipalities, since the municipality is of the opinion that it harms the appearance of the home too much.
[0006] It is further possible that when a home is close to a busy traffic route, the noise impact is too high for a ventilation grille. In such a case a silencer is placed on the grille on the outside of the home. A silencer is a ventilation grille with increased noise-proofing. Silencers are applied in situations where a building is ventilated naturally and is subject to noise impact due to for instance air traffic, road traffic, rail traffic or industry. The additional noise-proofing of a silencer is obtained by guiding the air along absorbing materials, which absorb part of the sound energy.
[0007] In the case of old homes a silencer on the outside of the home is however often not allowed by municipalities since the appearance of the home is thereby also affected too much in their opinion.
[0008] It is now an object of the invention to reduce or even obviate the above stated drawbacks.
[0009] This object is achieved according to the invention with a window frame according to claim 1.
[0010] By arranging a channel in the lintel in the invention and providing this channel with a grille on the outer side, the ventilation grille is largely concealed from view. Especially when the grille has the same colour as the lintel.
[0011] In this way it is still possible when renovating an old home to use a window frame which complies with current insulation values and enables sufficient ventilation, while the appearance of the old home is not affected to such an extent that it is no longer acceptable to a municipality.
[0012] In a preferred embodiment of the window frame according to the invention a silencer is arranged on the inner side in the access opening of the channel.
[0013] Arranging the silencer on the inner side of the window frame does not affect the appearance of the home further, while sufficient sound insulation is however obtained while maintaining sufficient ventilation.
[0014] In another embodiment of the window frame according to the invention the width of the channel is substantially equal to the length of the lintel. Maximizing the width of the channel enables the height of the channel to remain as small as possible so that the thickness of the lintel need not be unnecessarily high either, which would impact the appearance of the window frame.
[0015] A further embodiment of the window frame according to the invention further comprises a sash, which is arranged on the inner side pivotally and between the two jambs, the sill and the rail.
[0016] In old homes use is usually made of a Dutch sliding window, wherein the sash can be slid vertically upward in order to open the window in this way. Due to the construction, such a sash window often has large gaps between the sash and the window frame, which is detrimental to the insulation value. Giving the sash a pivotable form enables it to be opened in the manner of a regular window, while in the closed position it can be locked against the window frame in properly sealing manner. The pivoting sash is preferably a tilt-and-turn window.
[0017] In a further preferred embodiment of the window frame according to the invention the main plane of the upper windowpane lies parallel to and at a distance from the main plane of the pivoting sash. The distance between the main plane of the upper windowpane and the main plane of the pivoting sash is preferably greater than 3 centimetres.
[0018] Having the upper windowpane be offset relative to the pivoting sash in this way makes it resemble a Dutch sliding window even more.
[0019] These and other features of the invention are further elucidated with reference to the accompanying drawings. Figure 1 shows a perspective view of an embodiment of a window frame according to the invention as seen from the outside. Figure 2 shows the frame according to figure 1 in perspective view and on the inner side. Figure 3 shows a longitudinal section of the window frame according to figure 1.
[0020] Figure 1 shows an embodiment of a window frame 1 according to the invention. The window frame 1 has two jambs 2, 3, a lintel 4 and a sill 5. A rail 6 is arranged between jambs 2, 3 and parallel to lintel 4 and sill 5.
[0021] An upper windowpane 7 is arranged between lintel 4, jambs 2, 3 and rail 6. A pivoting sash 8 with a windowpane 9 is arranged between rail 6, sill 5 and jambs 2, 3.
[0022] Arranged in lintel 4 is a channel 10 (see also figure 3) which is covered on the outer side of window frame 1 with a grille 11 lying flush with a part of the lintel 4.
[0023] On the inner side of window frame 1 (see figure 2) a silencer 12, which provides for a noise reduction and simultaneously for ventilation, is placed on the channel 10.
[0024] A cross-section of the window frame 1 is shown in figure 3. Outside air L can flow into the home via grille 11, through channel 10 and silencer 12.
[0025] It will further be apparent from the cross-section that the upper windowpane 7 is fixed in the window frame by glazing beads 13, 14. It can further be seen that the sash 8 is arranged between the rail 6 and the sill 5 on the inner side. The windowpane 9 is here also fixed in sash 8 by means of glazing beads 15, 16.
[0026] The main plane 17 of upper windowpane 7 lies parallel to and at a distance d from the main plane 18 of the pivoting sash 8. The appearance of a Dutch sliding window is hereby approximated as closely as possible.
[0027] It will further be apparent from the cross-section that the upper windowpane 7 is fixed in the window frame by glazing beads 13, 14. It can further be seen that the sash 8 is arranged between the rail 6 and the sill 5 on the inner side. The windowpane 9 is here also fixed in sash 8 by means of glazing beads 15, 16.
[0028] The main plane 17 of upper windowpane 7 lies parallel to and at a distance d from the main plane 18 of the pivoting sash 8. The appearance of a Dutch sliding window is hereby approximated as closely as possible.
