AI Technical Summary
Existing door retaining devices for vehicles are either cumbersome, impractical, or require excessive effort to operate, particularly when trying to maintain the door in an open position while minimizing wind resistance and ensuring ergonomic use.
A door retaining device with a magnetic system where the actuating mechanism extends from the internal surface of the door, reducing the size and wind resistance of the door in the open position, and allowing for ergonomic operation by separating the magnetic elements with a translational movement that converts to rotational, reducing the adhesion force for easy closure.
The solution provides a robust yet ergonomic and space-efficient door retention system that minimizes wind resistance and effort required to close the door, ensuring safety and ease of use while maintaining the door in an open position.
Abstract
Description
[0001] The present invention relates to a body assembly of the type comprising at least one side wall, defining an internal surface intended to delimit a storage space, and an external surface opposite the internal surface, and at least one door movable relative to the side wall between a closed position, in which the door is intended to close at least part of the storage space, and an open position, in which an external surface of the door extends opposite the external surface of the side wall, the body assembly further comprising a device for retaining the door in the open position, said retaining device comprising: at least one first magnetic element fixed to the side wall, at least one second magnetic element fixed to the door, the second magnetic element cooperating with the first magnetic element when the door is in the open position so as to maintain the door in the open position, and an actuating device arranged to undo the cooperation between the first magnetic element and the second magnetic element when said actuating device is actuated,
[0002] The invention also relates to a utility vehicle comprising such a body assembly.
[0003] The invention applies, for example, to a body assembly for a commercial vehicle for the transport of goods, such as a truck or van, for example a refrigerated truck for the transport of perishable goods. The invention also applies to trailers or semi-trailers and to containers defining a non-mobile storage space comprising at least one side wall and one door.
[0004] Loading and unloading goods into and from a storage space is usually done by opening an access door to the storage space and placing it along a side wall delimiting the storage space, in order to free up as much access as possible to the storage space and to reduce the obstruction of the door in the open position.
[0005] To limit the risk of the door moving unintentionally to its closed position, for example, due to wind or, in the case of a vehicle, when the vehicle is moving while the door is open, it is known to install a door retention device that immobilizes the door against the side wall against which it is folded. Indeed, if the door moves unintentionally to the closed position, it risks injuring the person or people accessing the vehicle's storage area.
[0006] Several types of retaining devices are known. One option is mechanical cooperation between the vehicle body and the door in the open position. For example, a latch system can be installed between the side panel and the door. However, such a system is not very robust and is impractical to use because it must be operated by reaching between the side panel and the door. A deployable lever system designed to bear against the inner surface of the door in the open position is also known. However, such a system is bulky and can interfere with other components located under the vehicle body. Furthermore, deploying and retracting the lever requires several movements, making this system not very ergonomic.Other mechanical systems are known, but they have similar disadvantages to those mentioned above and / or require too much effort to release the door when you want to close it.
[0007] Alternatively, a magnetic connection between the side panel and the door can be used to hold the door open. The magnetic force of this connection must be strong enough to ensure the door remains securely open. However, a user must then exert considerable effort to release this connection when closing the door. Any reduction in the adhesive force between the magnetic elements to facilitate door operation compromises the strength of the door's hold in the open position. Furthermore, this effort is exerted by pulling on the door, which the user cannot ergonomically grip, forcing them to hold the door by a "contaminated" area—that is, an area exposed to the elements.
[0008] To overcome the drawback of the magnetic force dimensioning, document DE 10 2013 100 107 proposed an actuation device that breaks the magnetic interaction by separating a portion of a magnetic element on the door from a complementary magnetic element on the side panel. This separation of a portion of the magnetic element reduces the force required to break the magnetic interaction. The actuation device includes a handle connected to the magnetic element and positioned between the outer surface of the door and the outer surface of the side panel. The user operates this handle by grasping an edge of the door and squeezing the handle to move a portion of the magnetic element.
[0009] Therefore, the user must hold the door by a contaminated area, namely the edge of the door where the handle is located. Furthermore, the handle's placement and operation require a gap between the outer surface of the door and the outer surface of the side panel to accommodate the handle and allow the user to operate it. This increases the door's overall size and wind resistance when open.
[0010] One of the aims of the invention is to overcome these drawbacks by providing a vehicle body assembly comprising a door retaining device and a retaining device actuation device that is simple and ergonomic to use while reducing the bulk of the door in the open position.
[0011] To this end, the invention relates to a body assembly of the aforementioned type, in which the actuation device extends at least in part in projection from an internal surface of the door, opposite the external surface of the door, the actuation device being arranged to move at least a part of the second magnetic element away from the first magnetic element when the actuation device is actuated in an actuation direction tending to move said actuation device away from the internal surface of the door and the external surface of the side wall.
[0012] By positioning the actuation mechanism on the inner surface of the door, the gap between the door and the side wall can be reduced, thus minimizing the door's bulk and wind resistance when open. Furthermore, actuating the mechanism from the inner surface of the door eliminates the need to grip a contaminated area, making the use of the restraint system and its actuation mechanism more ergonomic.
[0013] The body assembly according to the invention may further comprise one or more of the following features, taken individually or in any technically feasible combination: the actuation device comprises an actuating element and a gripping element, the gripping element extending in projection from the internal surface of the door and the actuating element connecting the gripping element to the second magnetic element, at least a part of said second magnetic element being displaced by the actuating element when the gripping element is actuated in the direction of actuation; the actuating element is arranged to transform a translational displacement of the gripping element in the direction of actuation into a rotational displacement of the second magnetic element, said rotational movement separating a part of the second magnetic element from the first magnetic element so as to reduce the adhesion force between the first magnetic element and the second magnetic element;the second magnetic element is integral with a receiving portion of a plate, said plate comprising an actuating portion, in contact with an end of the actuating element opposite the gripping element, and a bearing portion bearing against a surface of the door, said receiving portion extending between the actuating portion and the bearing portion, the plate forming a lever arm between the end of the actuating element and the bearing portion, the actuating element moving the plate in rotation around an axis of rotation passing through the bearing portion so as to move the actuating portion and the receiving portion away from the external surface of the door when the gripping element is actuated in the direction of actuation; the second magnetic element extends in the vicinity of the external surface of the door, the actuating element extending between the internal and external surfaces of the door; The actuating element is mounted to move in translation along the direction of actuation within a sleeve extending into the door from the inner surface of the door; the retaining device comprises a protective membrane extending over an opening formed in the outer surface of the door, the second magnetic element extending into said opening, said protective membrane extending between the first magnetic element and the second magnetic element in the open position of the door; the first magnetic element is formed by a metal sheet extending over the outer surface of the side wall and the second magnetic element is formed by a permanent magnet; the distance between the outer surface of the side wall and the outer surface of the door is less than or equal to 20 mm in the open position of the door.
[0014] According to another aspect, the invention also relates to a utility vehicle comprising a body assembly as described above.
[0015] Other aspects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description, given by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: [ Fig 1 ] - there Fig. 1 is a schematic cross-sectional representation of a body assembly according to the invention along a longitudinal and transverse cutting plane, [ Fig 2 ] - there Fig. 2 is a schematic perspective representation of an actuation device for a restraint device intended to equip a door of a body assembly according to the invention, [ Fig 3 ] - there Fig. 3 is a schematic exploded perspective representation of the actuation device of the Fig. 2 , [ Fig 4 ] - there Fig. 4 is a schematic cross-sectional representation of the actuation device of the Fig. 2 according to axis IV-IV of the Fig. 2 , the actuation device being in a rest position, and [ Fig 5 ] - there Fig. 5 is a schematic cross-sectional representation of the actuation device of the Fig. 4 the actuation device being in an actuated position.
[0016] In the description, the terms "longitudinal", "transverse" and "elevation" are defined according to the usual directions of a vehicle, the term "longitudinal" referring to the front-to-back direction of the vehicle, the term "transverse" referring to the width of the vehicle and the term "elevation" referring to the height of the vehicle.
[0017] With reference to the Fig. 1 , a body assembly 1 is described comprising at least one side panel 2 and one door 4. As previously stated, the invention applies for example to a utility vehicle comprising such a body assembly.
[0018] The side wall 2 extends primarily along the longitudinal direction, corresponding to the length of the side wall 2, and along the vertical direction, corresponding to the height of the side wall 2, and has a thickness along the transverse direction. The side wall 2 comprises an internal surface 6 and an external surface 8, each extending along the longitudinal and vertical directions. The thickness of the side wall 2 is defined as the distance between the internal surface 6 and the external surface 8. In the case of a commercial vehicle or other vehicle, the internal surface 6 of the side wall delimits a portion of a storage space 10, and the external surface 8 extends from the outer side of the storage space opposite the internal surface 6.
[0019] According to the embodiment shown in the Fig. 1 , the storage space is closed by two side walls 2 in the transverse direction, by a floor and a ceiling (not shown) in the direction of elevation and by a transverse wall 12 joining the side walls 2 and one or two doors 4 in the longitudinal direction.
[0020] More specifically, each door 4 is mounted to rotate on and relative to a side wall 2 between a closed position, in which the door closes off the storage space 10, and an open position, in which the door provides access to the storage space 10. As is known, the axis of rotation extends along the direction of elevation between a longitudinal end of the side wall 2 and a corresponding edge of the door 4. On the Fig. 1 The right-hand door has been shown in the closed position, and the left-hand door has been shown, in solid lines, in an intermediate position between the closed and open positions, and, in dashed lines, in the open position. In the closed position, the door 4 extends substantially perpendicularly to the side wall 2, and in the open position, the door 4 extends substantially parallel to and against the external surface 8 of the side wall 2, as shown in dashed lines on the Fig. 2 .
[0021] The door or each door 4 comprises an internal surface 14, delimiting the storage space 10 in the closed position, and an external surface 16, opposite the internal surface 16, and facing outwards from the vehicle in the closed position.
[0022] It is understood that the invention described below applies to each of the two doors 4, or to a storage space enclosed by a single door 4, or to a storage space enclosed by more than one door comprising several leaves, as will be mentioned later. Since the invention is identical for each door 4 and the associated side panel 2, the description will only be given for one door 4 and the side panel 2 on which this door 4 is mounted.
[0023] A retaining device is provided between door 4 and the associated side wall 2 to hold door 4 in the open position against side wall 2.
[0024] The retaining device includes at least a first magnetic element 18 attached to the side wall 2 and at least a second magnetic element 20 attached to the door 4, the first magnetic element 18 and the second magnetic element 20 being arranged to cooperate magnetically in the open position of the door 4 in order to immobilize it against the side wall 2.
[0025] The first magnetic element 18 is, for example, fixed to the external surface 8 of the side panel 2, in an area extending substantially at eye level, for example near a lower edge of the side panel 2 in the direction of elevation, and opposite a portion adjacent to a free edge 22 of the door 4 when the door 4 is folded back against the side panel 2 in the open position. The first magnetic element 18 is, for example, formed by a metal sheet made of ferromagnetic metal. Alternatively, the panel forming the external surface 8 can be made of ferromagnetic metal so that the side panel 2 forms the first magnetic element 18. According to another embodiment, the first ferromagnetic element extends inside the side panel 2 and is, for example, bonded to the panel that forms the external surface 8.
[0026] The second magnetic element 20 is mounted on the door 4 so as to extend in the vicinity of the outer surface 16 of the door. More specifically, the second magnetic element 20 is mounted in an opening provided in the door, in an area of the door that extends opposite the first magnetic element 18 when the door is in the open position. The second magnetic element 20 is, for example, formed by a permanent magnet arranged to cooperate with the first magnetic element 18 with a holding force sufficient to hold the door 4 against the side wall 2 and resist any unintentional movement of the door to the closed position. The mechanism for holding door 4 in the open position is specifically designed to withstand a gust of wind or the effects of traffic, such as a vehicle passing over it while the door is open. This can occur, for example, when a user fails to close the door between loading operations from the storage area to different loading docks. The adhesive force between the second magnetic element 20 and the first magnetic element 18 is, for example, greater than or equal to 35 kg. According to the embodiment shown in the figure... Fig. 3 Two second magnetic elements 20 are provided to increase the contact area between the door 4 and the side panel 2, thus improving the retention of the door 4 in the open position. According to the embodiment shown in the Fig. 3 The two second magnetic elements 20 are arranged one above the other in the direction of elevation. It is understood that the two second magnetic elements could alternatively be arranged side by side. It is understood that more than two second magnetic elements could also be provided.
[0027] The opening is a through opening leading into the external surface 16 and the internal surface 14 of the door 4.
[0028] As depicted on the Figs. 2 à 5 On the side of the external surface 16, the opening is, for example, closed by a protective membrane 24 which is also arranged to form a housing for the second magnetic element(s) 20. More specifically, the protective membrane 24 has an external surface 26, which forms the external surface 16 of the door 4 at the opening, and an internal surface 28 against which the second magnetic element(s) 20 extend, the internal surface 28 thus defining a housing 30 receiving the second magnetic element(s) 18, as shown in the Figs. 4 And 5The protective membrane 24 also extends over the edge of the opening on the side of the external surface 16 of the door 4 to ensure a seal of the opening on the side of the external surface 16. In other words, the area of the external surface 26 of the protective membrane 24 is greater than the area of the opening in the external surface 16 of the door 4, and the protective membrane 24 extends from the side of the external surface 16 of the door 4 over the opening. The protective membrane 24 is, for example, fixed to the edge of the opening by screws 30. The protective membrane 24 is made of a flexible material so as to absorb the presence of extraneous elements that could negatively impact the air gap between the first and second magnetic elements and thus the adhesive force of the retaining device. For this purpose, the protective membrane 24 is, for example, made of an elastomeric material. When the door is in the open position, the protective membrane 24 therefore extends between the first magnetic element 18 and the second magnetic element 20, the external surface 26 of the protective membrane 24 being applied against the first magnetic element 18 when the latter is formed by a sheet fixed to the external surface 8 of the side wall 2 or by the side wall 2 itself.
[0029] The restraint device further includes an actuation device 34 of the restraint device enabling the magnetic cooperation between the first magnetic element 18 and the second magnetic element(s) 20 to be undone when this actuation device 34 is actuated by a user in an actuation direction D.
[0030] More specifically, the actuation device 34 extends partially beyond the inner surface 14 of the door 4, and the actuation direction D tends to move the actuation device 34 away from the inner surface 14 of the door and the outer surface 8 of the side wall 2 when the door is in the open position. Thus, when the door is in the open position, the actuation direction D is, for example, substantially perpendicular to the inner surface 14 of the door and the outer surface 8 of the side wall 2 and is directed outwards from the body assembly, as shown in the Fig. 1 Thus, the actuation device is operated from the inside of door 4 without having to touch any contaminated area of it. Furthermore, the actuation device 34 does not include any part extending between the external surface 8 of the side wall 2 and the external surface 16 of door 4, and it is not necessary to provide a minimum space for a user to pass their hand through it. This means that the space between these external surfaces can be reduced to a minimum when door 4 is open, thereby reducing the door's wind resistance and thus the risk of unintentional movement of door 4 to the closed position, as well as the door 4's obstruction when open. Thus, thanks to the positioning of the actuation device 34 on the inner side of the door 4, the distance between the external surface 14 of the side wall 2 and the external surface 16 of the door 4 in the open position is, for example, less than or equal to 20 mm.
[0031] More particularly, the actuation device 34 includes for example a gripping element 36 by which a user can actuate the actuation device 34 and an actuation element 38 connecting the gripping element to the second magnetic element(s) 20 and arranged to transform a displacement of the gripping element 34 along the actuation direction D into a separation between a part of the second magnetic element(s) 20 and the first magnetic element 18 so as to allow the magnetic cooperation of the retaining device to be undone.
[0032] The gripping element 36 is, for example, formed by a handle that a user can grasp on the inside of the door 4 in the open position to pull the door 4 towards them. The gripping element 36 is the part of the actuation device 34 that projects from the inner surface 14 of the door 4 on the inside of the door 4, that is, opposite the space between the outer surface 16 of the door 4 and the outer surface 8 of the side wall 2.
[0033] The actuating element 38 extends from the gripping element 36 to the second magnetic element(s) 20, passing through the inside of the door 4, that is, between its inner surface 14 and outer surface 16. More specifically, the actuating element 38 extends into the through-opening of the door 4, described previously. The actuating element 38 is fixed to the gripping element 36 such that a displacement of the gripping element 36 along the actuation direction D results in a corresponding translational displacement of the actuating element 38 along the actuation direction D.
[0034] More specifically, according to the embodiment shown on the Figs. 2 à 5 , the actuation element 38 is formed by a slide mounted movable in translation along the actuation direction D inside a sleeve 40 extending inside the door 4 in the through opening. The sleeve 40 includes, for example, a ring 42 extending radially at its end on the side of the inner surface 14 of the door 4. This ring 42 is positioned against the edge of the opening on the side of the inner surface 14 of the door 4 so as to ensure the sealing of the opening on the side of the inner surface 14 of the door 4. This prevents the introduction of external elements, such as dust or liquid splashes, into the opening of the door 4. The seal is ensured on the outside of the door by the protective membrane 24 on the side of the outer surface 16 of the door and by the ring 42 of the sleeve 40 on the side of the inner surface 14 of the door. As shown in the Fig. 3 , a seal 43 may be provided to ensure sealing between the actuation element 38 and the sleeve 40 and / or a seal 45 may be provided to ensure sealing between the sleeve 40 and the inside of the door, inside the door.
[0035] When the actuating device 34 is moved along the actuation direction D between a rest position ( Fig. 4 ) and an actuation position ( Fig. 5 ), the actuation element 38 is arranged to move the second magnetic element(s) 20 so as to move a part of them away from the first magnetic element 18 and thus reduce the adhesion force between the second magnetic element(s) 20 and the first magnetic element 18, as will be described in more detail later.
[0036] The movement of the second magnetic element(s) 20 is, for example, a rotational movement around an axis of rotation close to an edge of the second magnetic element(s) 20 in order to move the opposite edge of the second magnetic element(s) 20 away from the first magnetic element 18. For this purpose, the second magnetic element(s) 20 are mounted on a receiving part 44, a plate 46 which also includes an actuating part 48 engaging with the actuating element 38 and a support part 50 bearing on an edge 52 of the housing 30. The receiving part 44, the actuating part 48 and the support part 50 are adjacent to each other, the receiving part 44 extending between the actuating part 48 and the support part 50.The actuating part 48 is close to the edge of the second magnetic element(s) 20 which are separated from the first magnetic element 18 in the actuating position and the support part 50 forms the axis of rotation of the second magnetic element(s) 50. The grip between the actuating element 38 and the actuating part 48 of the plate 46 is made for example by inserting the edge of a notch 54 of the actuating part 48 into a groove 56 provided at one end of the actuating element 38, extending outside the sleeve 40 inside the door 4 and opposite the end of the actuating element 38 integral with the gripping element 36.
[0037] It is understood that the actuation device 34 could have a different structure. Thus, the actuation element 38 could be made in one piece with the gripping element or with the plate 46. Alternatively, the actuation element 38 could be directly engaged with the second magnetic element 20 by making the plate in one piece with the second magnetic element 20. The protective membrane 24 could also be omitted, and the bearing portion 50 could bear directly against a surface of the door formed by an edge of the door opening on the inner side of the panel forming the outer surface 16 of the door 4.
[0038] The operation of the actuation device 34 will now be described. Since the operation is similar regardless of the number of magnetic second elements 20, the operation will be described with reference to a single magnetic second element 20. Furthermore, the operation will be described with reference to the embodiment shown in the Figs. 2 à 5 and described in detail previously.
[0039] In the open position of door 4, the second magnetic element 20 cooperates with the first magnetic element 18 to hold door 4 in the open position against the side wall 2. The actuating device 34 is then in the rest position shown in the Fig. 4 , in which one face of the second magnetic element extends entirely against the internal surface 28 of the protective membrane 24.
[0040] When the user wishes to move the door 4 to the closed position, he grasps the gripping element 36 and pulls it in the direction of actuation D. As previously stated, the user does not need to touch the door directly and is therefore not in contact with a contaminated area of it.
[0041] The movement of the gripping element 36 along the actuation direction D results in a corresponding translational movement of the actuating element along the same direction D. This movement, in turn, causes the actuating portion 48 of the plate 46 to move along the same direction D, thus rotating the plate 46 and the second magnetic element around an axis of rotation passing through the support portion 50. This rotational movement separates the actuating portion 48 and the receiving portion 44 from the external surface 16 of the door 4, and consequently, a portion of the second magnetic element 20 from the first magnetic element 18. In other words, the actuating element 38 is arranged to transform a translational movement of the gripping element 34 along the actuation direction D into a rotational movement of the second magnetic element 20.This movement is made against the adhesion force between the second magnetic element 20 and the first actuating element 18 thanks to the lever arm formed between the actuating part 48 and the support part 50, which bears against an edge of the housing 30 and allows the rotation of the second magnetic element 20 so as to move away the edge of the second magnetic element 20 which is adjacent to the actuating part 48 from the first magnetic element 18 and to place the actuating device in the actuating position shown on the . Fig. 5 Thanks to this lever arm, the user can disengage the interaction between the edge of the second magnetic element 20, adjacent to the actuating part 48, and the first magnetic element 18 by rotating the second magnetic element without requiring excessive effort from the user. In particular, the user effort is significantly less than that which would be required to separate the entire second magnetic element 20 from the first magnetic element 18. Thus, an effort of approximately 10 kg from the user in the actuation direction D allows a portion of the second magnetic element 20 to be moved so that the face of the second magnetic element 20, which was resting against the inner surface 28 of the protective membrane 24 in the rest position, forms an angle of approximately 5° with the inner surface 28 of the protective membrane 24 in the actuated position, as shown in the figure. Fig. 5In this position, the adhesive force between the second magnetic element 20 and the first magnetic element 18 is significantly reduced compared to the adhesive force in the rest position. Thus, the adhesive force decreases from approximately 35 to 50 kg to approximately 11 kg, and only a slight additional effort from the user, depending on the direction of actuation, is required to completely disengage the interaction between the second magnetic element 20 and the first magnetic element 18, allowing the door 4 to move to the closed position. Therefore, with minimal effort, the user can disengage the magnetic interaction of the retaining device, even though this interaction is particularly robust due to the strong adhesive force between the first magnetic element 18 and the second magnetic element 20 when the actuating device 34 is not engaged.
[0042] It should be noted that the transition from the rest position to the actuation position, then to a position in which the magnetic cooperation of the retaining device is completely undone, and then to a movement of the door 4 towards the closed position can be done in a single movement by the user along the actuation direction D. Thus, the operation of the actuation device 34 is particularly simple.
[0043] When the door 4 is returned to the open position, the magnetic attraction between the first magnetic element 18 and the second magnetic element 20 returns the actuation device to its rest position. Alternatively, a constraint element can be provided to return the actuation device to its rest position as soon as the user no longer applies force to the gripping element.
[0044] It is understood that the invention could also be applied to a side door, mounted on the side wall so as to close an access opening to the storage space made in this side wall.
[0045] Furthermore, in the case of a door composed of several leaves or panels that move relative to one another, for example, a central leaf and two side leaves, allowing for adjustable opening to provide greater or lesser access to the storage space, one of the side leaves could be equipped with a first magnetic element and the central leaf with one or more second magnetic elements, so that the central leaf can be held in the open position against the side leaf when only the central leaf is open. The actuation device then operates between the central leaf and the side leaf in a manner similar to that described previously between the door and the side panel. When a larger opening is desired, the side leaf and the central leaf can be joined together to form a folding door in the open position against the side wall, the second magnetic element(s) of the central leaf then cooperating with the first magnetic element provided on the side wall.
