Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to machines that are used in compressing scrap metals.Prior Art

[0002] Metals that are used in industries are applicable for being reused in recycling following several processes such as machining, sheet metal shearing and bending, and so on. For such processes, press machines having a square-rectangular shape have been provided. In the current application as known from the prior art, the bales that are formed in square-rectangular shape by being compressed create some spaces during a feeding process to a furnace that is carried out in melting facilities. This case results in an inefficient use of the furnace capacity. This in return causes losses of energy and time.

[0003] For example, in an application numbered TR2014 / 02205, a machine typically having a chip carrier comprising a double-shaft cylinder and two stations, and a compression chamber is disclosed; this machine is used for decreasing the size of casting, aluminum and other metals that are distorted and to be subjected to some treatments such as sheet processes including machining, sheet metal shearing and bending, and also recycling so as to obtain a determined size, clarifying said metals from extraneous fluids and components, obtaining a maximum melting capability prior to a melting process and maximum compression which is required for long shelf life, and at the same time, obtaining maximum amount of products at the unit of time. The machine carries out the process of chip pressing in a station in cooperation with the double-shaft cylinder that is operating in a horizontal direction and has a hydraulic power unit and two rams at a minimum area while allowing the chips to be fed and prepressed at the other station. However, in said application, the metals that are subjected to treatment are not pressed in a circular form. Therefore, melting processes cannot be carried out efficiently.

[0004] In another application numbered TR2013 / 11457, a discharge chamber of a hydraulic press machine that is used for pressing and bailing scrap wastes is described. The bale discharge chamber that enables wastes that are pressed and baled to be discharged from a machine chamber comprises a discharge unit that allows said baled wastes that are introduced thereon by said bale discharge chamber to be transferred on a sliding element. Still in said application, the metals that are subjected to treatment are not pressed in a circular form. Therefore, melting processes cannot be carried out efficiently.

[0005] A patent application with the publication number of US4103610 A relates to a press for compacting scrap metal for subsequent melting, e.g. in an electric furnace. The press disclosed in the patent application comprises a supporting bed, a chamber formed in the bed and open at the top for the introduction of scraps thereinto, a closing cover for the chamber lockable in a closed portion by locking means. Movable and stationary walls define the sides of the chamber and are associated with the bed.

[0006] A patent application with the publication number of JPH02165899 A relates to a scrap compression apparatus, and more particularly to a compression apparatus having improved solid and shape characteristics of a compacted molding scrap. The main purpose of the invention is to sufficiently compact scrap to the front end of a corner part by forming the pressing surface of a slide and the press contact surfaces of an end wall and side walls of polygonal groove surfaces consisting of plural faces and forming the scrap block to be molded to a polygonal shape.

[0007] A patent application with the publication number of KR20120131696 A relates to a scrap iron compressor in order to reduce a contact surface of a bottom side by manufacturing a crosssection of compressed iron scraps into an octagonal shape, thereby preventing fitting of miscellaneous iron and sweeping of the iron scraps.

[0008] A patent application with the publication number of KR101225373 A manufacturing apparatus for a compressed scrap body is provided to improve the melting speed of a compressed scrap body at an electric furnace or melting furnace by boring the compressed scrap body. A manufacturing apparatus for a compressed scrap body comprises a scrap compressor body, first and second scrap compression members, a first moving device, a second moving device, and a core member.

[0009] As a result, due to all of the aforementioned drawbacks, a novelty aimed to be brought to the related technical field has been required.Brief Description of the Invention

[0017] The invention disclosed in this description is a machine that enables scrap metals to be compressed. Preferred embodiments of the materials that are used in the present invention will be described, without any limitation, only for the purpose of better understanding the subject matter of the invention.

[0018] The invention is a scrap metal compressor comprising an upper press cover (20) that applies a certain amount of force into the main body (10) and a ram (40) that applies a certain amount of force into the body from the sides of the main body (10) so as to enable scrap metals to be compressed in the main body (10); further comprising an inner chamber (11) that has at least one side portion (12) in order to be in a substantially circular form for minimizing the spaces generated during a feeding process to a furnace and achieving a more efficient production, a hinge (21) having a shape, which does not change the form of the inner chamber (11), for opening and closing the upper cover (20), an embedded protrusion (41) located on the side rams (40) in order to provide melting speed and energy efficiency by means of providing product safety by observing the inside of the produced bales and by ensuring the liquid metal to reach the inner side of the bales during melting processes.

[0019] A general view of the invention is represented in Figure 1. Accordingly, the invention typically comprises a main body (10) having an inner chamber (11) for compressing scrap metals. The scrap metals to be pressed are disposed in said inner chamber (11). The inner chamber (11) has an octagonal shape. The inner chamber (11) has eight side portions (12) in order to acquire an octagonal form. One side of the inner chamber is defined by the cylindrical shaped hinge of the upper cover. Scrap metals are produced in order to be substantially in circular shape on account of the octagonal form of the side portions (12) and the inner chamber (11). Due to the octagonal form of the inner chamber (11), the spaces formed during furnace feeding are minimized and a more efficient production is obtained.

[0020] After the scrap metals are disposed into the inner chamber (11), an upper cover (20) applies a certain amount of force onto the scrap metals from the top. The cover (20) can be opened and closed by use of a hinge (21). The hinge (21) has a shape, which does not change the octagonal form of the inner chamber (11). Shape of the hinge (21) ensures both a simple design and also a more durable body formation.

[0021] With the completion of the pressing processes of the scrap metals, they are pushed towards the middle of the inner chamber (11) with push cylinders (30) to be extracted from the inner chamber (11). The scrap metals formed by being pressed thus can be easily extracted from the inner chamber (11).

[0022] With reference to Figure 2, two opposite side rams (40) are provided on the sides of the main body (10). Both rams have an octagonal shape corresponding to the inner chamber with one of the eight side of both rams having a concave circular shape corresponding to the cylindrical shaped hinge such that both rams are allowed to compress the scrap metal in the inner chamber from both sides of the main body.

[0023] Embedded protrusions (41) are provided on the side rams (40). With the help of the embedded protrusion (41) used on the side rams (40), it would be enabled to inspect the inside of the bales produced and to ensure product reliability. Additionally, liquid metals are allowed to conveniently reach the inside of the bale in melting processes and thus melting rate and energy efficiency is achieved. Still thanks to the embedded protrusion, the scraps are deformed in a pressure vessel and the like, that may be provided inside of the scrap press bales and thus they can be protected from any hazards that are likely to occur during melting processes.

[0024] Waste discharge sections (50) are provided in the inner chamber (11) for cleaning the remnants and contaminations of the dust, soil and other similar materials present in the inner chamber (11) from the inner chamber (11), which remain within the scrap metals following the pressing process and which cause trouble in steel production. The cleaning process can be carried out at certain periods of time through these waste discharge (50) sections.

[0025] The machine subject to the present invention can be used both indoors and outdoors. Form of the inner chamber (11) of the machine has been designed in respect to a diameter of an induction furnace. The scrap bale that is disposed into the liquid steel contained within the furnace contacts several surfaces through a hole formed therein due to the embedded protrusion (41) used in both its outer surface and the side rams (40) because of the form of the inner chamber (11), which helps said bale melt more quickly.

[0026] The height of the inner chamber (11) may be designed in any desired length provided that the form of the inner chamber (11) remains unchanged. Thus, scrap press bales of any desired lengths can be produced as well.

[0027] As the present invention has a substantially annular form of geometric shape, the spaces formed within furnaces can be minimized due to the form of the furnaces, particularly the induction furnaces. Furthermore, as they do not have an edged-design, the scrap bodies produced with the machine subject to the invention do not cause any breakage-abrasion risks that may result from electrode and refractor-edged packages in pressing-bailing furnaces and integrated plants.
