[0001] Housing for an electrical device with a cover
[0002] TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0003] The invention relates to a housing for an electrical device for converting electrical power and to an electrical device with a corresponding housing.
[0004] An electrical device within the meaning of this disclosure processes electrical power, in particular by converting electrical currents from one form to another, for example, from direct current to alternating current or vice versa, or by deliberately changing essential properties of the electrical power, for example, the voltage or frequency. In particular, it can be a power electronic device, i.e., a power converter in which power switches are arranged in a converter topology and interact with capacitances and inductances.
[0005] During operation of such an electrical device, the voltages and currents present at the terminals of the power converter are specifically influenced by suitable timing of the power switches. Considerable electrical power can flow through the electrical device and be exchanged between the devices connected to it. For example, an energy source, in particular a power grid, a generator, or a battery, can be connected via a power converter in a housing according to the invention to an energy sink, in particular to a load, a battery, or in turn to a (further) power grid.
[0006] In the field of renewable energies, inverters for feeding into the grid, such as photovoltaic inverters, are generally designed for outputs starting at around one kilowatt. This also applies to battery converters connected to electrical storage units and supplying, for example, an isolated grid. Outputs of over ten kilowatts are also regularly converted in an electrical device with a housing. For larger energy generation plants, the rated outputs of individual power electronic devices can be in the megawatt range, with voltages in the kilovolt range and currents in the kiloampere range. There is generally no upper limit to the rated output and it depends essentially on technical progress with regard to available circuit breakers, suitable topologies, achievable power density, materials, and the like.In principle, the volume of the corresponding housing increases with the rated power of an electrical device, so that for very high power levels, other mechanical concepts can be used, particularly control cabinets instead of enclosures. The enclosure of such an electrical device must meet various standard requirements depending on the area of application. In particular, the enclosure can shield the interior of the device from the environment and, for example, seal it off dust-tight and water-tight, so that the enclosure has an IP protection class according to DIN EN 60529 and / or corresponds to one of the NEMA protection classes according to NEMA Standard 250-2003. In addition, an enclosure must be able to pass other mechanical tests according to DIN and / or UL standards, for example with regard to compression, impact tests, external influences such as bird strikes and / or special water jets.
[0007] Handling high electrical power levels entails the accumulation of extremely high energy concentrations in a very short period of time. This may be desirable, for example, to utilize capacitances or inductances for the dynamic intermediate storage of electrical energy during the conversion from one form of current to another. However, undesirable energy concentrations can also occur, particularly in the event of a fault, incorrect operation, or after unforeseeable aging processes. In this process, electrical energy can be converted to significant amounts into thermal and / or mechanical energy, for example, when components become extremely hot and burst, or when flammable substances accumulate in a housing, for example due to (electro-)chemical conversion processes, and are ignited by harmless electrical flashovers.
[0008] This can lead to significant overpressure building up in the otherwise sealed enclosure of the electrical device. In the case of a power electronic converter, for example, which has one of the usual protection classes IP44 or IP65, the overpressure can also build up very quickly under unfavorable circumstances, e.g., within a few milliseconds. However, this must not lead to the enclosure being destroyed in an unforeseeable manner, e.g., by it breaking open uncontrollably and possibly ejecting parts from the interior.
[0009] Unless the enclosure is constructed with considerable material expenditure to withstand any anticipated overpressure, the overpressure inside the enclosure can be relieved by providing a relief vent. At the same time, however, compliance with the relevant standards requires the enclosure to be designed in such a way that it adequately protects the interior during normal operation, provides mechanical stability against external influences, and is sealed, possibly watertight or even airtight and dustproof.
[0010] These two objectives—sufficient protection of the interior and thus the power electronic components located therein from the environment during normal operation on the one hand, and the controlled provision of a sufficiently large relief opening in the event of overpressure on the other—are initially functionally contradictory and significantly limit the available solution space. Furthermore, it is important that the electrical device enables the simplest possible installation and accessibility of the interior, for example, for maintenance and repair work.
[0011] STATE OF THE ART
[0012] Various solutions are known from the state of the art which are intended to ensure a more or less controlled and, as far as possible, safe pressure reduction of any sudden overpressure in an otherwise sealed housing.
[0013] For example, deformable fastening elements can be mounted on the housing. If there is a sudden build-up of excess pressure in the housing, these deform and create a gap between the cover and the housing through which the excess pressure can be released. Recesses can also be provided at the fastening points of the cover and housing, allowing the housing to be deformed if there is excess pressure in the interior. Furthermore, pressure relief mechanisms are known in which a pressure relief opening in the housing is closed by an external cover that is pulled inwards by a spring so that it is pushed outwards by excess pressure, opening the opening. Another option for pressure relief is pressure relief flaps that can swing open in the event of excess pressure. However, this can result in parts of the interior escaping unhindered into the environment.
[0014] DE 102019 122 812 A1 discloses a housing for an electrical device in which a cover is connected to a housing base via a detachable fastening means. The fastening means is arranged in the geometric center of the cover and is preferably formed by a central screw nut that can be screwed onto an outwardly extending threaded rod connected to the housing base, thereby securing the cover to the housing base.
[0015] None of the known solutions provides a sufficiently large opening for pressure relief in the event of a sudden overpressure in the interior of the housing, while simultaneously meeting the aforementioned requirements for the mechanical properties of a housing that is intended to be particularly suitable for an electrical device for converting significant electrical power and enabling simplified assembly of the electrical device and accessibility of the interior. OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
[0016] The invention is therefore based on the object of providing a housing for an electrical device which has a locking system which simplifies the opening and closing of the housing, which withstands the usual environmental, usage and fault conditions of such a device, thus increasing safety, and yet allows easy assembly and accessibility of the interior.
[0017] SOLUTION
[0018] The object is achieved by a device having the features of independent claim 1. Preferred embodiments are defined in the dependent claims.
[0019] DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0020] A housing of an electrical device for converting electrical power has a base body with a rear wall and side walls, and a cover. The cover closes the base body, creating an enclosed interior. Electrical and electronic components of the electrical device are arranged in the interior of the housing. The cover is connected to the base body via a detachable cover closure. The cover closure is characterized in that it comprises a fastening means and a closure housing, wherein the fastening means is held rotatably and axially immovably in the closure housing. In addition, the closure housing is fastened to the cover at the geometric center of the cover. The base body comprises a pin that extends from the rear wall of the housing to the geometric center of the cover. In this case, a connection between the cover and the pin is produced by means of at least one guide pin of the pin and at least one guide groove of the fastening means which is spirally encircling at least in sections, and which can be released by rotating the fastening means.
[0021] The object underlying the invention is thus achieved in that the electrical device has a closed housing as a protective device, wherein the detachably attached cover of the housing is designed as environmental protection with integrated overpressure protection. The captive central quick-release fastener of the cover simultaneously simplifies the opening and closing of the cover and improves accessibility to the interior. In the event of a sudden overpressure, the entire area around the central cover fastening serves as an attack surface for pressure peaks and impulses. The cover is prevented from deforming only by its rigidity. The cover can be designed to lift slightly from the housing only at the edge to allow pressure peaks to escape. The cover thus acts as an overpressure protection and enables sufficient pressure reduction. At the same time, the cover is held in place by the central fastening element and continues to hold back any parts that may be detached from the interior of the electrical device, or at least deflect them to the side. In this respect, the cover protects the area surrounding the electrical device from a pressure wave and minimizes the risk to people.
[0022] In particular, the cover is secured exclusively to the pin of the base body by the centrally located cover lock and is not connected to the base body by any other fastening means. It is understood that weak connections between the cover and the housing, such as adhesive forces from seals at the edge where the cover rests on the side walls, slight tilts, or guide hooks, are not considered fastening means. The centrally located pin, attached to the rear of the base body, also provides optimal accessibility to the interior of the housing when the cover is open.By retaining the lid closure's rotating fastener within the closure housing, it ensures that there are no loose parts on the closure during the entire assembly or disassembly of the housing. Instead, centering, positioning, and connection of the lid to the housing can be accomplished in a single step. This provides a quick-release fastener that is captively installed in the lid, allowing for compression of a seal, retention of the lid in the event of an internal failure, and easy positioning of the lid.
[0023] When the cover is placed on the housing, the central pin is inserted into the fastening means, wherein the fastening means is held rotatably and axially immovably in the closure housing. Preferably, the pin has a cylindrical shape and the fastening means a corresponding hollow cylindrical shape to accommodate the pin. When the fastening means is in a central position to accommodate the pin, the cover is automatically brought into the correct assembly position with the housing at the same time. When the pin is inserted into the fastening means, an outwardly directed guide pin of the pin is positioned in a guide groove in the fastening means. This guide groove is designed to be spiral-shaped, at least in sections, so that the fastening means is pulled onto the pin with a corresponding rotary movement and thus the entire cover is also pulled towards the housing. The dimensions of the pin and the fastening element are coordinated in such a way that the cover sits firmly on the housing in a designated end position and closes it, while the connection can also withstand pressures that may occur inside in the event of a fault. Furthermore, the central location of the cover lock allows for free access to the corners and edges of the housing, which can, in particular, include a connection area of the electrical device. This connection area is then largely freely accessible when the cover is open, eliminating the need for additional assembly work when commissioning the device.
[0024] In a preferred embodiment, the detachable connection can be established by a half or quarter turn. Such a closure can be released particularly easily by simply rotating it 90 degrees or 180 degrees using a suitable tool. In particular, the lid closure can be moved from a locked closed position to a free open position by simply rotating it. In this position, the lid closure is released from the locking pin and the lid can be removed from the housing.
[0025] It is particularly preferred that the locking pin has a cross pin as a guide pin at its upper end facing the lid. Accordingly, the fastening means then comprises a spiral-shaped helical groove consisting of two guide grooves for receiving the two ends of the cross pin. This symmetry better defines the installation position and prevents tilting when the cross pin runs in the helical spiral. In a further advantageous embodiment, the guide grooves have a latch in one end position. This defines the locked, closed position when the guide pin is held in the latch. This prevents the guide pin from accidentally slipping back in the guide groove and thus loosening the lid closure.
[0026] In an advantageous embodiment, a collar is provided on the closure housing, which forms a stop surface for the lid. This collar defines the installation situation of the closure housing on the lid. The closure housing is preferably arranged such that it projects through a central opening in the lid and rests with the collar on the outside of the lid, while a fastening acts against the lid from the inside, for example by a lock nut. Particularly preferably, a first sealing ring is arranged in the collar to seal between the lid and closure housing. Furthermore, it is preferred that a second seal acts between the fastening means and the closure housing, for example by a sealing ring running around the fastening means. The entire cover structure with centrally mounted fastening means and seal is selected so that the electrical device can be operated permanently and safely under all weather conditions and with all electrical parameters.
[0027] To ensure that the fastening means is held captively in the breech housing, in an advantageous embodiment the fastening means comprises a circumferential securing groove and the breech housing comprises a securing pin for engaging in the securing groove, whereby the fastening means is held rotatably and axially immovably in the breech housing. More preferably, the securing groove is only partially circumferential and thus forms a limitation of the rotational movement of the fastening means in the breech housing. Alternatively, the securing groove can accommodate a snap ring which, in the intended mounting position, prevents axial displacement of the fastening means and ensures that it cannot be lost. The rotational movement of the fastening means can also be limited by additional recesses in the fastening means which engage in corresponding elevations in the breech housing.
[0028] To better define the installation position of the cover and to facilitate the insertion of the cross pin of the stud into the helical groove of the fastener, the closure housing can include axial guide grooves at an end region facing the stud, through which the guide pins of the stud can be guided to the spiral guide grooves of the fastener. Additionally, a cone open toward the cover can be arranged around the end region of the stud, further facilitating central positioning during cover assembly.
[0029] Particularly preferably, the cover closure has markings to indicate the installation position and / or to indicate an open and closed position. This is preferably implemented by a visually recognizable indicator, which can be formed, for example, by different colors or different symbols.
[0030] In one embodiment of the housing, the cover has a sealing surface that runs essentially in one plane. The cover then rests with the sealing surface on the edges of the side walls of the base body. It is understood that the side walls can be formed by a single component; in this respect, housings with a rounded rear wall and correspondingly continuous side wall are also included. A circumferential seal can be arranged between the edges of the side walls of the base body and the cover. A compressive force is exerted on the seal by the cover closure via the cover, so that the housing can be tightly closed. This ensures a protection class of the interior of the housing of at least IP54, preferably at least IP65 and / or NEMA Type 4X.
[0031] The entire cover structure, with its centrally mounted fasteners and seal, is designed to ensure that the electrical device can be operated continuously and safely under all weather conditions and under all electrical parameters. To this end, the cover's rigidity is specifically designed to ensure that the cover is rigid enough to transfer the contact force from the central cover lock across the cover surface to the edge and thus to the seal, providing the seal with the necessary compression force. At the same time, the cover's rigidity is optimized to allow it to deform all the way around the centrally mounted screw when a certain internal pressure is reached. This creates an optimized opening area for pressure relief, allowing the pressure to escape slowly. Furthermore, the overall load on the cover lock in the event of an explosion is reduced, preventing the cover from tearing at the cover lock.
[0032] The housing according to the invention can particularly advantageously accommodate power electronic components in its interior. These include, in particular, switches, capacitors, and / or inductors suitable for converting electrical power within the device. In particular, the housing can accommodate a power converter, in particular a rectifier, an inverter, and / or a DC / DC converter. Especially in the area of power converters with rated powers in the range of several tens to several hundred kilowatts, technical progress brings with it increases in power density, which simultaneously exacerbate the problem of unwanted energy accumulation discussed above and therefore require housings adapted to the correspondingly increased risk.
[0033] In the event of overpressure occurring inside the enclosure, particularly in the event of sudden overpressure such as can occur with a high-power electrical device, the cover can lift off the edges of the side walls on all sides and undergo plastic deformation. This allows pressure to be released in all directions. The plastic deformation also relieves the load on the cover closure, as the area exposed to the overpressure decreases as the cover deforms. The rapid pressure release quickly reduces the tensile force on the cover closure. Overpressure can also be relieved by elastic deformation of the cover, so that in the event of overpressure, the cover lifts off the side walls, opening a pressure relief opening and then closing again once the pressure has been released.

[0041] FIGURE DESCRIPTION
[0042] Fig. 1 shows a lid closure according to the invention. The housing (not shown) comprises a base body. The base body can be formed in one piece, for example, as a die-cast part, or consist of several parts, in particular a rear wall and side walls. In principle, the base body can have a substantially rectangular outline, so that it comprises four substantially flat side walls, or a round or oval outline, so that it essentially has one circumferential side wall.
[0043] The housing includes a cover. The base body and the cover form a sealed interior of the housing, with the cover being placed in a form-fitting manner on the edges of the side walls of the base body. Any openings in the side walls and / or the rear wall of the base body, for example, for cable feedthroughs, can be implemented with suitable seals.
[0044] The lid is detachably connected to the base body via a central lid closure. According to Fig. 1, the lid closure comprises a closure housing 11 which is fixed to the lid (not shown) by means of a collar 12 designed as a stop surface and a lock nut 13, which also serves as a grounding nut. The closure housing 11 has a substantially rotationally symmetrical or cylindrical basic shape. An external thread 14, onto which the lock nut 13 can be screwed, can be provided on the peripheral surface. To fasten the closure housing 11 to the lid, the closure housing 11 is guided through a correspondingly dimensioned opening in the lid until the collar 12 rests against the outside of the lid. The closure housing 11 is then fixed to the inside of the lid with a lock nut 12. The opening in the lid is preferably located in the geometric center of the lid.The closure housing 11 is preferably designed as a hollow cylinder so that it can accommodate the fastening means 15 (see Fig. 2). The fastening means 15 is preferably also designed as a hollow cylinder to fit the cavity of the closure housing 11 so that the fastening means 15 can be inserted into the closure housing 11, preferably from the outside of the lid. The fastening means 15 is held in the closure housing 11 so that it is axially rotatable but captively, i.e., axially non-displaceable. To create the closure connection between the lid and the base body of the housing, a preferably rod-shaped closure pin 16 is provided, which extends from the rear wall of the housing to the opening of the lid. At the end of the pin 16 facing the lid, it has a cross pin 17, which extends radially outwards on two opposite sides of the pin 16.Typically, the cross pin 17 consists of a pin inserted centrally through a bore with a fit in the pin 16. The pin 16 with the cross pin 17 is firmly installed as part of the housing rear panel, whereby the housing rear panel may also include additional structural reinforcements in this area to better withstand applied tensile forces. The pin 16 with the cross pin 17 is dimensioned such that it can be inserted into the fastening element 15 and can be received therein.
[0045] Fig. 2 shows an exploded view of the lid-side closure components. This shows the closure housing 11 with the lock nut 13, as in Fig. 1, and the fastening means 15. The closure housing 11 has a collar 12, which, as described, serves as a stop surface for the outside of the lid. A seal 18 is arranged in the collar 12, which, when assembled, seals the closure housing 11 against the lid and thus protects the interior from environmental influences such as moisture and dust. This seal 18 can be designed in a known manner, for example as a rubber sealing ring or a foam bead. The fastening means 15 comprises a receptacle 19 for the closure pin 16, wherein the inner diameter of the receptacle 19 is adapted to the outer diameter of the closure pin 16. Furthermore, the fastening means 15 comprises a helical groove consisting of two spiral-shaped guide grooves 20.These guide grooves 20 are designed to receive the cross pin 17 of the pin 16. In the embodiment shown, the guide grooves 20 penetrate the outer surface of the fastening means 15. However, it is also conceivable for the outer surface of the fastening means 15 to be closed and the guide grooves 20 to be formed only on the inside. From a manufacturing perspective, however, the completely open guide grooves 20 are significantly easier to implement. In the initial area of the receptacle 19, the guide grooves 20 can be aligned axially rather than spirally. This facilitates the insertion of the cross pin 17 and the correct positioning of the entire lid. The closure housing 11 can also have a corresponding guide section 21 at its end facing the pin 16.Sealing of the fastening means 15 against the closure housing 11 can be achieved by an additional seal 22, which, when assembled, is arranged in a circumferential sealing groove 23 of the fastening means 15. The integration of the seals 18, 22 into the lid closure, which is firmly mounted on the lid, ensures that the seal is not lost even when the lid is disassembled and reassembled on the housing base body, so that a new seal does not have to be used each time. To axially secure the fastening means 15, a locking pin 24 is pressed into the closure housing 11, which engages in a semi-circumferential locking groove 25 of the fastening means 15. This secures the fastening means 15 against falling out and simultaneously establishes a rotation restriction, in this case half a turn. However, falling out can also be ensured in other ways. For example, the locking groove 25 of the fastening means 15 can be completely circumferential and accommodate a snap ring 26, which, when correctly positioned, springs into a corresponding locking groove in the breech housing 11. The axial locking and the position of the seals 18, 22 can be seen in the sectional view of Fig. 3, which shows the breech housing 11 with the fastening means 15 accommodated.
[0046] The assembly of the closure housing 11 on the cover 27 is shown in Fig. 4. The closure housing 11 is mounted in a central opening of the cover 27 with the stop surface of the collar 12 and the lock nut 13, which also serves as a grounding nut. Preferably, the cover opening is not circular, but rather, for example, square with rounded corners. The outer surface of the closure housing 11 preferably has flattened portions 28 adapted to the opening, so that the closure housing 11 can be fixed in a rotationally secure manner. This allows the cover closure to be precisely aligned with the cross pin 17 of the stud 16.
[0047] Fig. 5 shows a preferred embodiment in which various markings are provided on the closure housing 11. For the correct positioning of the lid closure over the central pin, two opposing markings 29 are provided. These can be formed, for example, by color markings or structural markings (elevations, notches, etc.). These markings 29 are intended to ensure correct installation. For a central lid closure, the pin 16 should be installed so that the cross pin 17 is in a horizontal position. Then the closure housing 11 must be installed so that the side markings 29 are also horizontal. This simplifies the positioning and installation of the lid, particularly in the case of multiply symmetrical or circular housing shapes. Additionally, in Fig. 5, the triangular marking 30 indicates the installation direction top or bottom, depending on which view is preferred for the "open" and "closed" positions.Additional markings can indicate the direction of rotation; for example, in the embodiment shown, arrows and letters show the direction of rotation for the open position (O) and the closed position (C for “closed”). A colored marking 31 on the closure housing also enables a visual position indication; for example, the visible part of the colored marking is green in the closed position (Fig. 5, bottom) and red in the open position after half a rotation of the central fastening means 15 (top)). The functioning of the lid closure is illustrated in Fig. 6, which shows the interaction of fastening means 15 with locking pin 16 when closing the lid. The situation with the lid in place is shown on the left, with the closure half closed in the middle, and with the closure closed on the right. The fastening means 15 is designed in such a way that a rotary movement is converted into a translatory movement. For this purpose, the double-sided helical groove 20 is incorporated in the fastening means 15. This represents the path of movement into which the cross pin 17 engages. If the actuation 32 is now turned, the lid connected to the closure is moved downwards. The path covered in a direction perpendicular to the lid plane must be sufficient to compress the seal and compensate for the deformation of the lid. Since this force can be considerable even with medium-sized lids due to the central application, the path is preferably set to a 180° rotation. To enable the same vertical movement of the lid, a quarter turn, for example, would require half the rotation path but twice the force. If a greater compression path is required, e.g. because of a larger seal, the path can also be increased. This would then correspond to a "stretched" helix. However, it should be noted that the actuation force then increases again because the approach angle becomes steeper. Specific rotation angles between 90° and 180° are also feasible, and the compression travel can be specifically adjusted within certain limits. The system is also scalable in size. Both right- and left-closing variants are possible. For central locking solutions, the necessary closing force depends heavily on the size of the lid and the necessary compression force of the seal. For small lids, a quarter turn may therefore be sufficient. For larger lids, a half turn offers a longer run-in travel and thus a lower closing force. At the end of the track, a detent 33 is provided on both sides, here in the form of a track recess. This is where the cross pin 17 is in its end position and is securely held there by the tensile force exerted by the lid and seal.In the event of an explosion, the lid lock must hold the lid securely on the base of the housing.
