Description

[0001] DESCRIPTION

[0002] TITLE: Mold with ejection device with clearance and associated method

[0003] The invention relates to a mold comprising a device for ejecting a part formed on a first mold part, the ejection device comprising:

[0004] - an ejection element movable in translation relative to the first mold part in an ejection direction between a retracted position and an ejection position,

[0005] - at least one wedge movable in translation relative to the first mold part in a direction of movement, different from the ejection direction, between a holding position and an ejection position, the ejection device having at least one drive configuration in which the movement of the ejection element in the ejection direction causes the movement of the at least one wedge in the direction of movement, and a disengaged configuration in which the at least one wedge is not driven by the movement of the ejection element in the ejection direction, the wedge comprising a protrusion, the ejection element comprising at least one slot.

[0006] The invention further relates to an associated ejection method.

[0007] Document FR 3 053 269 A2 describes a mold of the aforementioned type. The wedge comprises a protrusion under the interface for an undercut and the ejection element defines a housing, the protrusion being received in the housing in the drive configuration, and the protrusion being outside the housing in the disengaged configuration.

[0008] At the end of ejection, the ejection element supports the ejected part, in particular at the level of a tab comprising an undercut, the wedge being spaced from the part, more particularly from the undercut.

[0009] However, the ejector element is in contact with the tab, which is likely to retract as the part cools and hardens. Removing the part from the ejector element after cooling is then likely to damage the part, including deforming the tab.

[0010] An object of the invention is therefore to improve a mold comprising an ejection device adapted for a part with an undercut, so as not to damage the part to be ejected. To this end, the invention relates to a mold of the aforementioned type in which the slot comprises a clearance portion and a disengagement portion, the disengagement portion forming an angle with the clearance portion, the protrusion being guided in the clearance portion in the drive configuration and the protrusion being guided in the disengagement portion in the disengaged configuration.

[0011] According to particular embodiments of the invention, the mold also has one or more of the following characteristics, considered in isolation or in any technically possible combination:

[0012] - the angle is between 60° and 150°;

[0013] - the wedge comprises an interaction interface adapted to maintain an undercut zone of the part in the holding position, the interaction interface being arranged on a first face of the wedge, the protrusion being arranged on a lateral interaction face of the wedge different from the first face;

[0014] - the lateral interaction face is adjacent, preferably perpendicular, to the first face;

[0015] - the mold comprises a guide element fixed relative to the first mold part, the wedge comprising an element complementary to the guide element, the wedge being guided relative to the first mold part by cooperation of the complementary element and the guide element during the movement of the wedge;

[0016] - one of the guide element and the complementary element is a protrusion, the other of the guide element and the complementary element being a slide;

[0017] - the protrusion is arranged on a lateral interaction face of the wedge, the complementary element being arranged on a face of the wedge opposite the lateral interaction face;

[0018] - the ejection device comprises a plurality of wedges, each wedge being movable in translation relative to the first mold part in a respective direction of movement, different from the ejection direction, the movement of the ejection element in the ejection direction causing the wedges to move in their respective direction of movement when the ejection device is in the drive configuration;

[0019] - the mold comprises two wedges, each wedge being movable in translation relative to the first mold part in a respective direction of movement, different from the ejection direction, the respective directions of movement being opposite relative to the ejection direction. The invention further relates to a method for ejecting a part formed on a first mold part, comprising the following steps:

[0020] - supply of a mold as defined previously, the ejection device being in the drive configuration, the ejection element being in the retracted position, the at least one wedge being in the holding position,

[0021] - first movement of the ejection element in the ejection direction causing the movement of the at least one wedge in the direction of movement, and

[0022] - second movement of the ejection element in the ejection direction, the wedge not being driven by the movement of the ejection element during the second movement.

[0023] Other characteristics and advantages of the invention will appear on reading the description which follows, given solely by way of example and with reference to the appended drawings, in which:

[0024] [Fig 1] Figure 1 is a partial schematic sectional view of a mold according to an embodiment of the invention, in which the ejection element is in the retracted position and the wedge is in the holding position,

[0025] [Fig 2] Figure 2 is a three-dimensional view of the mold of Figure 1, in which the ejection element is between the retracted position and the ejection position, the wedge being in the ejection position,

[0026] [Fig 3] Figure 3 is a three-dimensional view of the mold of Figure 1, in which the ejection element is in the ejection position, the wedge being in the ejection position,

[0027] [Fig 4] Figure 4 is a schematic view of a detail of the mold of Figure 3, and

[0028] [Fig 5] Figure 5 is a three-dimensional partial view of a mold according to an alternative embodiment of the invention, in which the ejection element is in the ejection position, the wedges being in the ejection position.

[0029] In the following, the terms "lower" and "upper" are defined with respect to the direction of the opening of the production tool and the term "lateral" is understood in a direction perpendicular to the direction of the opening of the tool.

[0030] A production tool 1 is shown in Figures 1 to 3. The production tool 1 is intended to produce a molded part 4. For example, the production tool 1 is an injection mold. The part 4 is produced, for example, by injecting a plastic material.

[0031] The part 4 is, for example, a vehicle part, in particular an automobile, such as a dashboard body, a trim panel or another vehicle element, in particular an automobile. The part 4 has a complex three-dimensional shape with at least one undercut area 6, that is to say a part comprising at least one surface that cannot be demolded by simply separating two mold parts and requiring a complementary molding element that can be moved in a direction different from the direction of separation of the two mold parts. The part 4 comprises a main surface 8 and a tab 10 extending from the main surface 8.

[0032] The leg 10 is of reduced size compared to the main surface 8 of the part 4. At least one undercut zone 6 is located on the leg 10.

[0033] In the example shown, the tab 10 is a fixing tab, for example intended to allow the part 4 formed to be snapped onto a structure of the vehicle. The tab 10 comprises a main portion 12 and a joining portion 14.

[0034] The tab 10, more particularly the joining portion 14, extends from the main surface 8, in an extension direction E.

[0035] The direction of extension E forms with the main surface 8 an angle a, for example between 45° and 135°.

[0036] Angle a is measured on the side opposite the undercut.

[0037] In the example shown, the direction of extension E is substantially perpendicular to the main surface 8.

[0038] The main portion 12 extends in the extension of the junction portion 14 in the direction of extension E.

[0039] The joining portion 14 has a thinner thickness than the main portion 12 to ensure a certain flexibility for the tab 10 so that it performs its snap-fastening function.

[0040] The part of the junction 14 allows in particular the tab 10 to have elastic behavior relative to the main surface 8.

[0041] The joining portion 14 thus defines a first undercut zone 6 of the part 4.

[0042] An example of part 4 has been described here for illustrative purposes.

[0043] However, the invention is suitable for any type of undercut, of greater or lesser size.

[0044] Alternatively, the tab is not a fixing tab, but a clip holder or a welding die. Alternatively to the example described, the undercut is, for example, due to the shape of the main surface of the part itself and not to a protruding element from its surface.

[0045] The production tool 1 comprises a first mold part 20, a second mold part (not shown) and an ejection device 22 for the part 4.

[0046] The ejection device 22 comprises an ejection element 26 and a wedge 28.

[0047] The first mold part 20 and the second mold part each comprise a molding surface 30 arranged opposite the molding surface of the other part.

[0048] The first part 20 and the second part are movable relative to each other in translation in a direction of movement between an open position and a closed position.

[0049] In the open position, shown in Figures 1 to 3, the first part 20 and the second part are spaced apart from each other so as to leave an accessible space between the molding surfaces 30. This space makes it possible to load elements into the mold 1 or to remove the part 4 after its production using the ejection device 22.

[0050] In the closed position (not shown), the first part 20 and the second part are brought together so as to define, between the molding surfaces 30, a main cavity which has the shape of the main surface 8 of the part 4 to be formed. The main cavity is, for example, in fluid communication with a source of injection material.

[0051] The first mold part 20 has a thickness e in the direction of movement. This thickness e is necessary to accommodate functional elements of the mold 1, such as an ejection system, cooling channels, a mold maneuvering system (not shown). In addition, the first mold part 20 may comprise heating means and / or nozzles for injecting a plastic material into the main cavity in its thickness e.

[0052] The ejection device 22 comprises a guide part 34, here a sheath extending in the thickness e in the direction of movement, also included in the ejection device 22.

[0053] The guide piece 34 is fixed relative to the first part of the mold 20.

[0054] Alternatively, the guide part 34 is made of material with the first mold part 20. The guide part 34 is capable of receiving the remainder of the ejection device 22, more particularly the ejection element 26 and the wedge 28, when the ejection element 26 and the wedge 28 are in the retracted and holding position respectively, as will be described below, as shown in FIG. 1.

[0055] The guide piece 34 opens into the main cavity through the molding surface 30 of the first part 20.

[0056] The guide part 34 comprises a guide element 35, here a protuberance.

[0057] The guide element extends opposite the wedge 28.

[0058] The guide element 35 is positioned on an internal contour 36 of the guide part 34.

[0059] The ejection element 26 is movable in translation relative to the first mold part 20 in an ejection direction A between a retracted position, shown in FIG. 1, and an ejection position, shown in FIG. 3.

[0060] The ejection direction A is, for example, substantially parallel to the extension direction E of the tab 10.

[0061] The wedge 28 is movable in translation relative to the first mold part 20 in a direction of movement B between a holding position, shown in FIG. 1, and an ejection position, shown in FIGS. 2 and 3.

[0062] The wedge 28 is mounted to move in translation in the direction of movement B along the guide element.

[0063] The direction of travel B is different from the direction of ejection A. For example, the direction of travel B forms an angle between 1° and 30°, preferably between 4° and 30°, with the direction of ejection A.

[0064] For example, the moving direction of the first mold part and the second mold part is parallel to the ejection direction A.

[0065] The ejection device 22 has at least one drive configuration in which the movement of the ejection element 26 in the ejection direction A causes the movement of the wedge 28 in the movement direction B and a disengaged configuration in which the wedge 28 is not driven by the movement of the ejection element 26 in the ejection direction A.

[0066] The ejection element 26 has the shape of an arm extended in the ejection direction A.

[0067] The ejection element 26 comprises an upper portion 44 intended to be in contact with the formed part 4 and a lower portion 46. The ejection element 26 has an outer side wall 48, intended to be in sliding contact with the internal contour 36 of the guide part 34 and the first mold part 20, and an interaction side wall 50, arranged opposite the wedge 28.

[0068] The upper portion 44 defines an upper wall for contact with the main surface 8.

[0069] When the ejector member 26 is in the retracted position, the upper contact wall extends in continuity with the molding surface 30 of the first mold part 20, and forms a part of the main molding cavity.

[0070] The lower portion 46 is, for example, linked to a drive mechanism (not shown) capable of controlling the movement of the ejection element 26 between its retracted position and its ejection position.

[0071] The drive mechanism comprises, for example, an ejector plate controlling the movement of the ejector element 26. The ejector plate is actuated by any suitable means, for example by a cylinder, for example hydraulic.

[0072] Furthermore, the ejection element 26 defines a slot 56, shown in more detail in FIG. 4. In the example, the slot 56 is arranged in the interaction sidewall 50.

[0073] The slot 56 comprises a deflection portion 58 and a disengagement portion 60, the disengagement portion 60 forming an angle p with the deflection portion 58.

[0074] The disengagement portion 60 is parallel to the ejection direction A.

[0075] The angle p is between 60 and 150°.

[0076] The angle p is likely to be strictly less than 90° only, for example, if the angle a, measured on the side opposite the undercut, is strictly less than 90°.

[0077] In the example shown, the angle p is greater than or equal to 90°.

[0078] In the embodiment shown, the deflection portion 58 extends here parallel to the main surface 8 to within one degree.

[0079] The deflection portion 58 extends from the disengagement portion 60, more particularly from an upper end of the disengagement portion 60. More particularly, the deflection portion 58 extends from the upper end of the disengagement portion 60 towards the side of the undercut area 6.

[0080] Angle p is greater than or equal to angle a.

[0081] The angle p is here substantially equal to the angle a, to within one degree. Alternatively, the angle p is strictly greater than the angle a by more than one degree, preferably by more than 3°.

[0082] The wedge 28 has the shape of an arm extended in the direction of travel B.

[0083] The wedge 28 comprises an upper portion 68 intended to be in contact with the formed part 4 and a lower portion 70.

[0084] The upper portion 68 of the shim 28 defines an upper contact wall 76 with the main surface 8.

[0085] When the wedge 28 is in the holding position, the upper contact wall 76 extends in continuity with the molding surface 30 of the first mold part 20, and forms a part of the main molding cavity.

[0086] The wedge 28 comprises a first lateral face 62, an interaction lateral face 64 and an outer lateral wall 66.

[0087] The shim 28, more particularly the first lateral face 62, comprises a forming surface 38.

[0088] The forming surface 38 has the complementary shape of the undercut.

[0089] The forming surface 38 forms an interaction interface suitable for maintaining the undercut when the wedge 28 is in the holding position, once the part has been molded.

[0090] The lateral interaction face 64 is arranged opposite the ejection element 26.

[0091] The ejection device 22, more particularly the ejection element 26 and the wedge 28, defines with the mold, when the ejection element 26 and the wedge 28 are respectively in their retracted and holding position, a secondary cavity 42, illustrated in FIG. 1, which has the shape of the tab 10 of the part 4.

[0092] Wedge 28 has the complementary shape of the undercut. Only wedge 28 is in contact with the undercut area after molding the part.

[0093] The main cavity and the secondary cavity 42 are in fluid communication.

[0094] The outer side wall 66 is intended to be in sliding contact with the contour 36 of the guide element.

[0095] The outer side wall 66 is provided with a complementary element 70 of the guide element 35.

[0096] The complementary element 70 is, for example, a slide extending in the direction of movement B.

[0097] The complementary element 70 is arranged on a face of the wedge 28 opposite the lateral interaction face 64. Said face extends substantially along a plane parallel or collinear to the direction of movement B.

[0098] The movement of the wedge 28 relative to the first mold part 20, here in the direction of movement B, is guided by cooperation of the complementary element 70 and the guide element during the movement of the wedge 28.

[0099] The direction of movement B is such that, when the wedge 28 is moved from the holding position to the ejection position, the forming surface 38 moves out of the undercut area 6.

[0100] The wedge 28, more particularly the lateral interaction face 64, is provided with a protrusion 68.

[0101] The interaction lateral face 64 is here adjacent, for example, perpendicular to the first lateral face 62.

[0102] The protrusion 68 cooperates with the slot 56. More particularly, the protrusion 68 moves in the slot 56, during the movement of the ejection element 26.

[0103] When the ejection element 26 is in the retracted position and the wedge 28 is in the holding position, the protrusion 68 is arranged in the movement portion 58 of the slot 56, at a distance from the disengagement portion 60.

[0104] In the drive configuration, the protrusion 68 is guided in the travel portion 58.

[0105] The movement portion 58 having an angle with the ejection direction A, the ejection element 26 moving in the ejection direction A causes a movement of the wedge 28, which is further guided in the movement direction B by the cooperation of the complementary element 70 and the guide element.

[0106] In the disengaged configuration, the protrusion 68 is guided into the disengagement portion 60.

[0107] The disengagement portion 60 being parallel to the ejection direction A, the ejection element 26 moving in the ejection direction A does not drive the wedge 28.

[0108] In the example shown in the figures, the shim 28 is in one piece.

[0109] Alternatively, the wedge comprises two separate and integral parts: a wedge head and a wedge pusher. The wedge head comprises the molding part, i.e., in this case, the forming surface. The wedge pusher provides guidance and includes the protrusion. Such a wedge is also called a wedge with an attached head.

[0110] A method of ejecting the part 4 will now be described, illustrating the operation of the production tool 1. When the production tool 1 is used to produce the part 4, the wedge 28 is in the holding position and the ejection element 26 is in the retracted position.

[0111] The ejection device 22 is in the drive configuration.

[0112] The first mold part 20 and the second mold part are in the closed position, a main mold cavity and a secondary mold cavity 42 are defined by the mold parts and the ejector 22. A molding material is injected into the main cavity, and fills the main cavity and the secondary cavity 42, to form the part 4.

[0113] Following the production of the part 4, the first mold part 20 and the second mold part are moved relative to each other to the open position, as shown in FIG. 1, in order to allow the extraction of the finished part 4.

[0114] Once the forming tool 1 is opened or while the opening of the forming tool 1 is in progress, the process of ejecting the formed part 4 begins.

[0115] During a first phase of the ejection, the ejection device 22 is in a first drive configuration. The ejection element 26 is moved in the ejection direction A towards its ejection position by a drive mechanism. During this movement, the protrusion 68 moves in the movement portion 58. The wedge 28 moves in the movement direction B guided by the cooperation of the guide element and the complementary element 70.

[0116] Thus, during the first phase, the ejection element 26 moves in the ejection direction A and drives the wedge 28 which moves in the movement direction B. Controlling the speed of movement of the ejection element 26 makes it possible to control the speed of movement of the wedge 28.

[0117] During this movement, the ejection element 26 drives the part in the ejection direction A towards the ejection position. The main surface 8 of the part thus detaches from the molding surface 30 of the first mold part 20. The main surface 8 of the part remains in contact with the upper contact wall 52 of the ejection element 26.

[0118] During the first phase of ejection, each undercut area 6 of the tab 10 is cleared thanks to the movement of the wedge 28.

[0119] In the example shown, the angle p being substantially equal to the angle a, the upper contact wall 76 of the shim remains in contact with a portion of the main surface 8, but slides along the main surface 8 in the direction X and moves away from the tab. Alternatively, as mentioned previously, the angle p is greater than the angle a by more than one degree, preferably by more than 3°. This then allows the shim to detach from the part over the entire contact surface, including during the first phase of ejection. The difference between the angle p and the angle a depends in particular on the shape of the undercut. Said difference is, for example, less than or equal to 80°, preferably 60°.

[0120] The direction of movement B and the ejection position of the wedge are such that the lateral offset of the upper contact wall 76 of the wedge 28 along the main surface 8 does not damage the part 4.

[0121] Furthermore, during this movement, the ejection directions A and deflection B being different, the protrusion 68 moves in the slot 56 towards the disengagement portion 60.

[0122] When the wedge 28 arrives in the ejection position, as shown in FIG. 2, the protrusion 68 is arranged at the intersection between the movement portion 58 and the disengagement portion 60.

[0123] The ejection device 22 is then in the released configuration.

[0124] The ejection element 26 can continue its travel in the ejection direction A without causing the wedge 28 to travel in the movement direction B beyond its ejection position.

[0125] In a second phase of the ejection, the ejection element 26 continues its travel to its ejection position and to the final release of the part 4. During the movement of the ejection element 26 beyond the ejection position of the wedge 28, the wedge 28 is no longer moved relative to the first mold part 20. It is therefore not necessary to provide a large lateral clearance space for the wedge 28.

[0126] In the second sentence, the protrusion 68 moves, relative to the ejection element 26, into the disengagement portion 60 in the ejection direction A.

[0127] When the tool 1 is to be used to form other parts 4 subsequently, it is intended to return the wedge to the holding position and the ejection element to the retracted position so as to reform the initial secondary cavity 42, the protrusion 68 moving in the slot 56 according to the reverse movement to that described previously.

[0128] The forming tool can be made more compact while still maintaining sufficient stroke to allow removal of the formed part. In addition, the ejector member 26 can be actuated by a simple hydraulic cylinder with a control device without requiring a wedge control synchronization unit.

[0129] The ejection device 22 can be installed in production tools having different shapes. The ejection device 22 is reliable, the ejection and clearance strokes are mechanically controlled. In addition, the part 4, and in particular the area having an undercut 6, is completely clear at the end of the ejection.

[0130] The displacement distance of the wedge 28 is less than the displacement distance of the ejection element 26.

[0131] The system is simple and does not require complex adjustments. It requires a very small footprint. There are no drawbacks of wedge rod crossing because the wedge 28 is controlled solely by the ejection element 26. Such an arrangement prevents the risks of the wedge 26 being delayed or accelerated relative to the ejection element 28. The stroke of the ejection element 26 is not limited by the stroke of the wedge 26. The part 4 is released from the wedge 26 before the end of the ejection.

[0132] Installation, adjustment, and maintenance are simple due to the simplicity of the device. The system is easily automated.

[0133] In the description, the production tool is an injection mold, however, the ejection device can be adapted to any type of mold.

[0134] In an alternative embodiment, the shim comprises the protrusion, which forms the complementary element, and the guide piece comprises the slot in the direction of travel, which forms the guide element.

[0135] Alternatively, the tab 10 has a different shape. For example, the tab 10 is an anti-shrinkage element, or a staple holder or the like.

[0136] In an alternative embodiment, the ejection device 122 comprises a single ejection element 126 and a plurality of wedges 128, 130, here in the example shown in FIG. 5 two wedges.

[0137] The ejection element 126 is similar to what was previously described.

[0138] The ejection element 126 is movable in the ejection direction A.

[0139] The protrusion of each wedge cooperates with a slot of the ejection element, similarly to what has been described previously, that is to say that the protrusion is guided in a deflection portion in the driving configuration and in a disengagement portion in the disengaged configuration. In the example shown, the ejection element 126 comprises a slot comprising one zone per wedge, each zone comprising a deflection portion and a disengagement portion, as described previously.

[0140] More particularly, the slot comprises a first zone 134 capable of cooperating with a first of the wedges 128 and a second zone 136 capable of cooperating with the second of the wedges 130.

[0141] Each zone includes a deflection portion 138, 140 and a disengagement portion 142, 144 relative to the corresponding shim 128, 130, as previously described with respect to the slot for the single shim.

[0142] Alternatively, the ejection element comprises as many slots as there are shims, each slot being capable of cooperating with a respective shim. Each slot is then as described previously with reference to figures 1 to 3 with reference to the corresponding shim.

[0143] Each disengagement portion forms a respective angle with the corresponding travel portion.

[0144] The respective angles are likely to be different from each other.

[0145] The travel portions 138, 140 are likely to have different lengths between them.

[0146] This depends in particular on the sizes and / or shapes of the undercuts to be demolded and the shape of the main surface.

[0147] Each wedge 128, 130 is movable in translation relative to the first mold part 110 in a respective direction of movement Bi, B2, different from the ejection direction A.

[0148] The directions of movement Bi, B2 are here opposite, preferably symmetrical, with respect to the direction of ejection A.

[0149] The leg of the formed part here includes two undercut areas on opposite faces.

[0150] Each wedge 128, 130 includes a protrusion similar to that described previously.

[0151] The mold further comprises here, for each wedge, a guide element fixed relative to the first mold part and capable of cooperating with the corresponding wedge, i.e. here two wedges.

[0152] Each wedge 128, 130 further comprises here a complementary element 146, 148 of the corresponding guide element, similarly to what has been described previously. For example, each wedge 128, 130 comprises a slide extending in its respective direction of movement Bi, B2.

[0153] The cooperation of each complementary element 146, 148 with the corresponding guide element thus guides the movement of each wedge according to its respective direction of movement Bi, B2.

[0154] Similar to what has been described previously, the movement of the ejection element 126 in the ejection direction A causes the movement of each of the wedges 128, 130 in their respective direction of movement Bi, B2, when the ejection device 122 is in the drive configuration, and does not drive the wedges 128, 130, when the ejection device 122 is in the disengaged configuration.

[0155] Thus, the movement of the ejection device allows the simultaneous release of the undercut areas of the wedges.

[0156] This device is particularly advantageous because the movement of the wedges is synchronized by the fact that it is driven by the ejection element.

[0157] Such a device is further suitable for a part comprising different tabs or lugs each having at least one undercut area. A wedge is thus provided for each undercut area with a respective direction of movement adapted to move the wedge away from the corresponding undercut area, the wedges all being driven by the ejection element.

[0158] Thus, one or more wedges, operating similarly to that described above, may be provided to interact with a second interaction side wall, for example opposite or adjacent to the interaction side wall of the same ejection element. Thus, multiple distinct undercuts may be ejected via a single ejection element interacting with several wedges.

[0159] In one embodiment, two or more shims may be associated with a single wall of the ejection element, for example to eject several aligned undercuts on the part along a direction defined along the ejection element.

[0160] The mold according to the invention thus makes it possible to both eject a part, while releasing the undercut area from the entire mold. At the end of ejection, the undercut area is no longer in contact with elements of the mold, so that there is no risk of damaging the undercut when removing it from the mold, even in the event of retraction.
