AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

The adjustment of optical components in relation to emitting elements, such as semiconductor laser diodes, in five degrees of freedom for collimating divergent radiation is complex and requires high accuracy, often resulting in unstable adhesive fixation due to shrinkage, affecting long-term alignment and stability.

Method used

A method involving precise mechanical alignment using adjustable clamping devices and detectors to align optical components coaxially with the spindle axis, followed by machining to ensure precise positioning and fixation without adhesives, allowing for micrometer-precise alignment and reproducible assembly of emitting and beam-forming elements.

Benefits of technology

Enables precise, reproducible alignment and fixation of optical components, eliminating the need for adhesives and reducing shrinkage-related misalignment, thereby enhancing the long-term stability and economic production of laser-optical assemblies with improved beam parameters.

Abstract

In the method, i) a beam-shaping optical element (2) or an optical reference element (2') is aligned and fixed coaxially with respect to the axis of rotation of a mandrel (5) in a first step, ii) the emitting element (1) is inserted into a second adjustable clamping device (6) of the mandrel (5), is fixed and is aligned in a second step, in such a way that the optical axis of the emitted electromagnetic radiation has been aligned coaxially with the axis of rotation of the mandrel (5), and iii) the housing (1.1) of the emitting element (1) is machined on its radially outer wall and surfaces in a third step, in such a way that the surfaces are aligned parallel and perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the mandrel (5), and iv) the optical element (2) and the emitting element (1) are inserted in a common mount (7) in a fourth step, in such a way that their radially outer walls are aligned parallel to one another and abut against one another on the inner wall of the mount (7) and on surfaces which are arranged facing one another.
