This inhalation device (100B) comprises a heating unit (121B) for heating a stick-type base material (150) having an aerosol source, and thereby generating an aerosol, and a control unit (116B) for controlling operation of the inhalation device (100B). The control unit (116B) is configured so as to execute an authentication heating control for controlling the temperature of the heating unit (121B) with a target temperature that is lower than the lowest temperature at which an aerosol is generated, and a main heating control for controlling the temperature of the heating unit (121B) with a target temperature that is higher than the lowest temperature at which an aerosol is generated. The authentication heating control is executed when an authentication process pertaining to whether usage of the inhalation device (100B) is possible is being carried out, and when the authentication process is completed the authentication heating control is stopped and the main heating control is executed.
