AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Tires intended for vehicles carrying heavy loads face a challenge in achieving a balance between high wear resistance, low rolling resistance, and improved grip performance, particularly in wet conditions, due to the contradictory requirements of tread stiffness and hysteresis in rubber compositions.

Method used

A tire tread composition comprising a random copolymer of ethylene and 1,3-butadiene with 55-65 mole % ethylene units, combined with a reinforcing filler containing carbon black at a mass ratio greater than 90%, which enhances both wet grip and maintains a good compromise between wear resistance and rolling resistance.

Benefits of technology

The proposed solution significantly improves wet grip performance while maintaining a balanced performance in wear resistance and rolling resistance, offering better traction and durability for heavy-load vehicles.

Abstract

The invention relates to a tyre intended to equip a vehicle carrying heavy loads which comprises a tread, the portion of which intended to be in contact with the ground being driven on consists totally or partly of a rubber composition, which rubber composition comprises more than 50 phr of a highly saturated diene elastomer, which is a random copolymer of ethylene and 1,3-butadiene containing between 55 mol% and 65 mol% of ethylene units, and between 30 phr and 55 phr of a reinforcing filler containing a carbon black in a weight content of greater than 90% of the weight of the reinforcing filler and less than or equal to 100% of the weight of the reinforcing filler. A tyre according to the invention has a good balance between wet grip performance, wear resistance, and rolling resistance.
