Method and storage system for storing load carriers

Abstract

Airport early baggage storage devices (2) perform many functions. The invention relates to a storage system (2) which is suitable for this purpose and to a method for storing standardized load carriers (4) which are empty or loaded with piece goods (4a) using a sorting criterion, comprising a conveyor (6), a loading device (8), a driverless transport vehicle (16), shelves (12) with shelf compartments (14) for receiving the load carriers (4), and a control system. The load carriers (4) can be uniquely identified and associated with a sorting criterion. The loading device (8) is designed to selectively receive and / or dispense a load carrier (4) from or onto the conveyor (6) and load and / or unload said load carrier (4) onto and / or from the preferred shelf (12*).
