Abstract

A method for manufacturing a self-healing electrically conducting or dielectric elastomer composite, the method comprising providing a mixture comprising microparticles of liquid metals comprising gallium as main phase, providing one or more components contributing to a polymer matrix of the elastomer composite, adding the one or more components to the first mixture (M1) to obtain a third mixture (M3), allowing reaction to take place in the third mixture (M3) to cure the third mixture to obtain a self-healing electrically conducting or dielectric elastomer composite comprising an elastomer matrix, and 5-90% by volume of an electrically conducting or dielectric phase comprising liquid metals comprising gallium as main phase. A self-healing dielectric elastomer composite film comprising an elastomer matrix, and 54% or less by of a dielectric phase comprising gallium as main phase. A self-healing electrically conducting elastomer composite film comprising an elastomer matrix, and 55% or more by volume of an electrically conducting phase comprising gallium as main phase.
