Abstract

The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of animal feed pellets, comprising the following steps: a)providing a feed mixture comprising feed ingredients, b)combining the feed mixture with a binder system comprising calcium hydroxide, thereby obtaining an animal feed composition, c) subjecting the animal feed composition obtained in step b) to steam and heating the animal feed composition to a temperature of at least 80 °C, d) pelleting the mixture obtained in step c) to obtain animal feed pellets. Further, the present invention relates to a method for reducing the energy consumption during a pelleting step in the manufacture of animal feed pellets and to a method for increasing the water stability of animal feed pellets. Moreover, the present invention relates to the use of calcium hydroxide for reducing the energy consumption during a pelleting step in the manufacture of animal feed pellets, and to the use of calcium hydroxide for increasing the water stability of animal feed pellets. Furthermore, the present invention relates to animal feed pellets, such as those obtained by the inventive process.
