AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
Conventional video coding methods fail to accurately predict motion vectors due to fixed-sized neighborhoods that either under- or over-estimate the memory requirements, leading to inaccurate predictions or increased memory footprint.
Method used
Adaptive motion field motion vector loading adjusts neighborhood size based on the average length of motion vectors, loading all vectors within a first neighborhood if the average length is below a threshold and a sampled subset within a larger second neighborhood if it exceeds the threshold.
Benefits of technology
This approach enhances prediction accuracy while optimizing memory usage, reducing unnecessary data loading and improving video coding efficiency.

Abstract
A size of a neighborhood of a motion field from which motion vectors are loaded into memory for predicting a motion vector for a current block is based on an average length of motion vectors of the motion field. Where the average length of motion vectors does not exceed a threshold, all motion vectors within a first neighborhood of the motion field are loaded into memory in which a size of the first neighborhood is based on a memory footprint. Where the average length of motion vectors exceeds the threshold, a sampled subset of motion vectors within a second neighborhood of the motion field is loaded into memory in which a size of the second neighborhood is greater than the size of the first neighborhood. The loaded motion vectors are then provided for use in predicting a motion vector for the current block.
