[0002] Field of the invention

[0003] The present invention relates to garment design or a cutting-out-pattern for a garment with more flexibility around a person's joint when the garment is worn. More specifically, the present invention relates to a jacket and trousers design with increased flexibility of the shoulder joint and hip joint respectively.

[0004] Introduction

[0005] In the world of clothing, clothes such as jackets, shirts, sweaters and pants exist in a plurality of designs and textiles. In general, clothes are designed for purpose such as work, leisure, workout, outdoor activities and for looking smart either for casual or special occasions both when it comes to the choice of fabric and design.

[0006] Traditionally, garment production follows the process of first designing a piece of clothing and making a cutting-out pattern for each size of garment to be produced. The cutting-out pattern is used to cut a clothing fabric into several pieces of fabric, which are then sewed together to form the garment. The development in fabric / textiles and in synthetic fabrics has been enormous for the past decades in relation to breathing, wind and water resistance as well as abrasion resistant fabric. Also, with the development of stretchable fabrics by mixing elastane or Lycra with other materials, has provided us with fabric for clothing with increased comfort for daily wear and sporting activities.

JP2005299023 discloses an upper body garment and a method for producing such garment with bulky shoulder portion, where the fabric is floated from the shoulder to form a cavity around the shoulder area for increased mobility of the arms. The method discloses a pattern for making the garment where two darts are cut diagonally into a raglan sleeve panel and then the space between the darts is attached together before attaching the sleeve panel to the front and back panel.

[0008] SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0009] The present invention relates to a garment or a cutting-out-pattern for a garment, where the design of the garment and the cutting-out pattern shape and form provide a garment with more flexibility of a joint when the garment is worn without creating a bulky space or cavity around the joint created by excess fabric floated from the joint. The garment may be an upper body garment such as a jacket and a lower body garment such as pants, where the cutting out pattern has two or more adjacent V-shaped cuts, or darts as they are also referred to in the field of making clothes, made from the edge of the pattern and into the pattern towards the position of a person's joint covered by the garment. Furthermore, an increased length of the cutting pattern is provided along the length of the limb extending from the joint of a person. The amount of increased length is approximately the same length as the combined width of the widest part of each of the two or more V- shaped cuts made into the pattern. After all the pieces of material / textile for making the garment have been cut each of the two V-shaped spaces formed by the V-shaped cuts is closed by attaching the sides of the V-shaped cut, prior to attaching other pieces of material to form said garment.

[0010] This design creates an extra width in fabric covering the joint which in case of an upper body garment the fabric gets dispersed over the shoulder and the shoulder blades and then enables unimpeded forward movements of the arms, without creating a bulky shape and cavity over the shoulder joint. Also, clothing designed for sport activities such as sailing, climbing, skiing may benefit from the garment design of the present invention as sailors frequently have to crouch on the deck for their tasks and climbers do constantly have to stretch up their arms for their climbing activities. The garment design of the present invention is in fact advantageous for creating an outer layer of a jacket or pants for providing wind and / or water resistance with increased flexibility around the shoulder and hip joint respectively, and where a stretchable middle and / or inner layer can be worn for temperature management.

Moreover, it is a preferred object of the present invention to provide a cutting- out-pattern and a method for making a garment, an upper body garment, jacket and trousers, where the design allows stretching of limbs without inhibition of movement from the garment or pulling up or down the garment by movements or flexing of a person wearing the garment.

[0109] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0110] In the following, exemplary embodiments of the invention will be described, referring to the figures. These examples are provided to provide further understanding of the invention, without limiting its scope.

[0111] Figure 1 is a general drawing of a material panel 1 as a part of a plurality of material panels attached or sewed together for making a piece of garment. For the piece of garment a design pattern is made and then a cut-out pattern is made for each size of the garment. The cut-out pattern comprises a plurality of patterns for each material panel 1 required to sew together in order to make the garment. In Fig. 1A the drawing shows a material panel 1 according to one embodiment of the present invention, where the material panel 1 at least partly covers the joint 2 (indicted by a dotted circle) and a limb of a person. According to the criteria for this material panel of this embodiment comprises properties including extending from a line 3 above a limb of a person and along the length 4 of the limb (indicted by a dotted length line). The material panel further comprises covering the joint of the limb of the person at least partially. In order to increase flexibility of the lime around the joint when the garment is worn by the person two adjacent V-shaped cuts 5 are made from the edge of the material panel and into the material panel towards the position of the person's joint to be covered by the garment. The front edge of the material panel 1 has an outwardly extending curve 7 in the area where the V-shaped cuts are made. Furthermore, the design pattern is adapted to provide increased length of the material panel along the length of the limb, wherein said increased length being approximately / substantially / similar the same length as the combined width of the widest part of the space made by the two adjacent V-shaped cuts (indicated by length of parentheses identified as i and ii). Each V-shaped 6 space formed by the V-shaped cuts 5 is closed by attachment before attaching together other material panels to form said garment. In Fig. IB gap formed by the two V-shaped cuts 5 is closed by sewing, or any other means for making garments from a plurality of material panels, leaving two seams 7.

[0112] Figure 2 outlines the terminology for garments such as a jacket and trousers in order to clarify the present invention. Figure 2A and 2B shows a jacket according made from at least four material panels which are then attached together by sewing or high-frequency welding. The jacket shown in Fig. 1 comprises a left and right front panel, a back panel, and a right and left sleeve panel 13. Fig. 1A shows the jacket from the front and Fig. IB shows a back view of the jacket. The sleeve panels extend from the neckline of the jacket and along the whole length of the sleeve. Figure 2C shows a side view of material panels for trousers, where the trousers are made from a front and back panel for the left and the right foot. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2C each side of the trousers are made from a front and back panel so the side front and the side back edges are attached together displaying a side seam. A crouch line and knee line are also shown for clarification purposes.

Claims

Claims1. A garment, wherein the garment comprises a plurality of material panels attached together for making the garment, wherein a material panel extending along the length of the person's limb and covering the person's joint comprises: i) a straight edge extending from a point above the joint towards the end of the limb, ii) increased length along the material panel from a point above the joint towards the end of the limb, and iii) two adjacent V-shaped cuts made from the edge of the material panel and into the material panel pointing towards the position of the joint, iv) each space formed by the two adjacent V-shaped cuts in the material panel is closed before attaching other material panels together to form the garment by an attachment of the gap formed by the V-shaped cut.

2. The garment according to claim 1, further comprising attachment of the material panel at the edge where the V-shaped cuts were made to a second material from a point above the joint and beyond a point the person's joint.

3. The garment according to claim 1, wherein each V-shaped cut is straight from the panel edge but has a concave shape towards the meeting point of each V-shaped cut.

4. The garment according to claim 1, wherein the material panel extending along the length of the person's limb and covering the person's joint comprises an outwardly extending curve in the area where the V-shaped cuts are made.

5. An upper body garment, said upper body garment comprising the following material panels: a left front panel and a right front panel, wherein the upper edge of the left and right front panels of the jacket comprises a lateral line extending from the center of the chest towards the middle of the front axle joint, a back panel, and a left sleeve panel and a right sleeve panel, wherein the left and right sleeve panels comprise material panels extending along the length of each of the person's arms and covering the person's axle joints, and wherein the front edge of the left sleeve panel the right sleeve panel is a straight edge extending from a point above the shoulder joint towards the end of the arm,wherein: each of the left and right sleeve panels comprises: an increased length along the material panel from a point above the shoulder joint towards the end of the arm, two adjacent / parallel V-shaped cuts from the front edge of the sleeve panel and into the sleeve panel above and towards the shoulder covered by each sleave panel, and each space formed by the two adjacent / parallel V-shaped cuts is attached together before attaching other material panels together to form the jacket, wherein the lateral extending upper edge of the left and right front panels is attached to the front edge of the left and the right sleeve panels respectively.

6. The upper body garment according to claim 5, wherein the upper body garment is a jacket.

7. The upper body garment according to claim 5, wherein the two adjacent / parallel V- shaped cuts are made such that:- the first V-shaped cut is made above the shoulder joint, and- the second cut is made towards the shoulder joint.

The upper body garment according to claim 5, wherein the space formed by the two adjacent / parallel V-shaped cuts is attached forming seams where:- the first seam extends substantially perpendicular to a point above the shoulder joint, and- the second seam extends substantially perpendicular to a point at the shoulder joint.

9. The upper body garment according to claim 5, wherein the armhole of the jacket comprises a shallow and wide shape starting from the back panel with a downwards curve towards the centre of the armhole and continuing and a receding diagonal line towards the front panel.

10. The garment according to claim 1, wherein the garment is trousers comprising the following material panels: a left front leg panel and a right front leg panel,- a left back leg panel and a right back leg panel,wherein the left and right front leg panels and the left and right back leg panels extend along the length of the person's leg and cover the person's hip joint, and wherein the left and right back leg panels further comprise: an increased length of the panel extending from a line above the person's hip joint towards the end of the person's leg,- two V-shaped cuts from the front edge of the back panel and into the panel above and towards the position of a person's hip joint,- the space formed by the two V-shaped cuts are attached together before attaching other material panels together to form the trousers, wherein the front edge of the left and right back leg panels is attached to the back edge of the left and the right front leg panels respectively.

11. A method for making a garment, the method comprising: a) creating / generating a cutting-out-pattern comprising two or more cutting-out panels representing the material panels to form said garment, wherein the cutting-out- pattern comprises at least one cutting-out panel representing material panel extending along the length of the person's limb and at least partially covering the person's joint, b) adding increased length in the at least one cutting-out panel representing material panel extending along the length of the person's limb and at least partially covering the person's joint, c) making one or more V-shaped cuts from the edge and into the cutting-out-panel towards the position of a person's joint in the at least one cutting-out panel representing material panel extending along the length of the person's limb and at least partially covering the person's joint, d) cutting out material panels based on the cutting-out-pattern according to steps a) - c), e) closing the gap formed by the one or more V-shaped cuts in at least one material panel extending along the length of the person's limb and at least partially covering the person's joint by suitable attachment means, f) attachment of the material panel at the edge where the V-shaped cuts were made to a second material from a point above the joint and beyond a point the person's joint.
