AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Elevator systems face inefficiencies when sharing resources between passengers and robots, leading to passenger delays and operational degradation due to robots taking longer to board or exit, which conflicts with passenger traffic.

Method used

An elevator system with a control system that determines traffic patterns and generates trip schedules for robots based on traffic volumes, prioritizing passenger transport during high-traffic periods and optimizing robot transport during low-traffic periods using radio transceivers and sensors to manage elevator usage.

Benefits of technology

The system enhances passenger comfort by minimizing delays and conflicts with robot traffic, ensuring efficient resource allocation and balanced transport for both passengers and robots.

Abstract

An elevator system (1) generates a traffic pattern as a function of time based on a stored series of traffic volumes and determines one or more high-traffic periods, in which one or more traffic volumes are above a first threshold value, and one or more low-traffic periods, in which one or more traffic volumes are below a second threshold value, wherein the first threshold value is greater than the second threshold value. In response to a received transport request signal that specifies a transport of a robot (10) from a boarding floor and includes an identifier that identifies the robot (10), the elevator system (1) determines a trip schedule for the robot (10) based on the transport request signal, the identifier and the traffic pattern, and transmits a control signal to the robot (10) to control the robot (10) according to the trip schedule.
