Abstract
Description
KIT FOR FIXING A FIXABLE ORTHODONTIC IMPLANT DEVICE TO THE PALATAL AND / OR MANDIBULAR BONES OF A PATIENT
[0001] The present invention relates to a kit and a method for fixing a fixable orthodontic implant device to the palatal and / or mandibular bones of a patient.
[0002] In general, the present invention relates to instruments or tools for implanting, means to be attached to the jawbone for consolidating natural teeth or for attaching dental prostheses to them; dental implants; implant tools.
[0003] In particular, the present invention relates to connection devices for joining an upper structure with an implant element, e.g., spacers with an additional screw, connection devices for joining an upper structure with an implant element, e.g., spacers with positioning means, positioning or guiding, e.g., of implant tools drills.
[0004] The prior art is represented by US patent application US 2021 / 0244514 A1 concerning a subperiosteal fastening kit comprising a subperiosteal dental implant device and a drill guide attachable to it, the subperiosteal dental implant device having a frame engageable with the jawbone of a patient and a fixing hole sized and shaped to receive a bone screw therein, the drill guide having an elongated guide channel sized to receive a helical bit therein and being removably attachable to the frame of the subperiosteal dental implant device, with the guide channel being in communication with the fixing hole when the drill guide is fastened to the frame of the subperiosteal dental implant device. A subperiosteal dental implant device of the method is intended to be fixed to a patient's mandible and be engaged with a drill guide having a threaded section.
[0005] In the embodiment shown, the subperiosteal dental implant device comprises one or more implant heads extending from the frame. The implant heads, or at least a portion thereof, may be integral (or a single piece) with the frame, i.e., they may be manufactured simultaneously with the frame as a single piece, or they may be removably mounted / engaged with the frame. Each implant head is configured to engage with a replacement tooth or a plurality of connected replacement teeth. In the particular embodiment, the frame has two implant heads, each having an internally threaded socket capable of receiving an intermediate threaded connector to provide engagement between the replacement tooth and the implant head, or a threaded connector portion of a replacement tooth to directly mount the replacement tooth on the implant head. In an alternative embodiment, the implant heads may be devoid of the above-described internal threaded socket, with each replacement tooth being connected to the corresponding implant head in a manner different from screwing into a threaded socket (e.g., the replacement tooth could be permanently connected to the corresponding implant head). Healing caps may be mounted and fixed to the implant head with mechanical fastening, such as a screw, until the replacement tooth is engaged with and fixed to it. In particular, the prior art is represented by patent document KR 102 088 353 B1.
[0006] The subject of the present invention concerns the use of orthodontic mini-screws, TADs, i.e., skeletal anchorage devices used in orthodontics to overcome some limitations of traditional appliances and to achieve dental movements that have been considered difficult to accomplish until now, with the dual advantage of easy insertion and no need for patient cooperation.
[0007] Orthodontic mini-screws can be inserted both in the vestibular and palatal areas.
[0008] Various types of orthodontic mini-screws for insertion in the palate are known, produced and applied with one-visit or two-visit programming systems to allow the mini-screw to be made with its own bushing and its own fixing screw to which the orthodontic device can be attached and soldered.
[0009] These fixing screws for palatal or vestibular use, due to the particular shape of their head, are used to attach traction elastics in orthodontic therapy or to serve as an anchorage for an orthodontic appliance through a frame adherent to the palate or mandible of the patient.
[0010] The prior art does not solve the problem of treating a patient wearing an orthodontic device fixed to the mandibular or palatal bones using connection means such as bone mini-screws, without encountering misalignments between the orthodontic device and the palatal and / or mandibular bones.
[0011] During the fixation of the device to the mandibular and / or palatal bones, the screws inserted into the holes of the orthodontic device's frame undergo micro-movements that result in the generation of auto-tensions that are difficult to discharge and are perceived by the patient.
[0012] According to the prior art, each mini-screw abuts against the frame of the orthodontic device. During the insertion of the screws into the frame's holes, there is an increased risk that the micro-movements of the plurality of screws will not allow the auto-tensions generated to be discharged.
[0013] The aim of the present invention is to solve the aforementioned problems of the prior art by providing a kit and a method for fixing a fixable orthodontic implant device to the palatal and / or mandibular bones of a patient that allows creating an intermediate cushion between the mini-screws and the orthodontic device.
[0014] A further aim is to provide a kit and a method for fixing a fixable orthodontic implant device to the palatal and / or mandibular bones of a patient that allows separating the orthodontic device from the patient without having to move the mini-screws inserted into the palatal and / or mandibular bones.
[0015] These and other aims and advantages of the invention, as will become apparent from the following description, are achieved with a kit and a method for fixing a fixable orthodontic implant device to the palatal and / or mandibular bones of a patient as described in the independent claims.
[0016] Preferred embodiments and non-obvious variants of the present invention form the subject of the dependent claims. It is understood that all the attached claims form an integral part of the present description. It will be immediately apparent that numerous variations and modifications (for example, relating to shape, dimensions, arrangements, and parts with equivalent functions) can be made to what has been described without departing from the scope of protection of the invention as it appears from the appended claims.
