AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

As wireless communication networks transition to more densely distributed cells to increase capacity, inter-cell interference and frequent handovers become significant challenges, reducing system capacity and user experience.

Method used

A two-stage initial access procedure for synchronization and connection by a mobile station to multiple access points in a cell-free network, allowing the mobile station to measure and select stage-I synchronization information, determine stage-II synchronization information, and communicate with access points transmitting this information.

Benefits of technology

This approach minimizes inter-cell interference and reduces the need for frequent handovers, thereby enhancing network capacity and efficiency by allowing direct access to a cell-free network without the need for cellular access and subsequent handover.

Abstract

This disclosure is directed generally to wireless communications and more specifically to synchronization of mobile stations with wireless network and cell / network search by the mobile stations. The various example implementations disclosed herein provide a two-stage initial access procedure for synchronization and connection by the mobile station to multiple access points (APs) in a cell-free network, so as to avoid having to access the network first in a cellular fashion followed by performing a cell switch or handover procedure in order to synchronize with and be connected to the cell-free network.
