Description

SYSTEM FOR CLOSING, BY SLIDING GLAZING, A VEHICLE BODYWORK OPENING, IN PARTICULAR AN AUTOMOBILE, AND GLAZING FOR SUCH A SYSTEM

[0001] The present invention relates to a system for closing an opening provided in a vehicle body, in particular an automobile, by means of glazing. The glazing comprises a window and a device for driving it in translation between a position at least partially retracted relative to the opening and a position for closing the opening of the body. The window is curved and laminated and comprises at least one outer glass sheet, one inner glass sheet, and an interlayer sheet located between said outer glass sheet and said inner glass sheet.

[0002] The invention finds a particular application to the openings of vehicle doors not having a frame, the opening being delimited between an upper edge of the bodywork, and two lateral edges of the vehicle bodywork, adjacent to the door when the door is closed (part called "bodywork opening").

[0003] In these arrangements, in the closed position, the glazing is only slightly, if at all, held at the top and laterally by the door but is held in this position by means located directly on the bodywork, in the bodywork bay.

[0004] The prior art also includes European patent application No. EP 1 178 175, which relates to a system for positioning and assembling a window, which attempts to solve the problem of holding the window in place. The solution proposed in this document is tedious to implement and results in too much time wasted by the car manufacturer who is seeking to have the car assembled in a minimum of time.

[0005] The prior art also knows patent applications GB 2515525 and WO 2022 / 140991 with a multi-part joint.

[0006] Finally, document FR 3 058 097 discloses a translationally movable glazing structure which is presented as being light, robust, efficient, easy to manufacture and easy to implement. To achieve this, the glazing comprises, in particular, a pane of glass whose inner glass sheet is thin (between 0.4 and 2.10 mm at most), and whose edge is covered with a protective layer which extends over its entire length, the edge of the inner sheet being located beyond the edge of said plastic sheet and the edge of said outer glass sheet.

[0007] The protective layer can contribute to the aesthetics of the glass, even if its primary objective is to allow safe contact with the edge of the thin inner glass sheet.

[0008] However, the appearance considered aesthetic for some may be considered unaesthetic for others: the invention proposes a new configuration, without the need to provide a protective layer and concerns a system which comprises a window whose inner glass sheet has an overhang relative to the outer sheet and the interlayer sheet, which proposes both a safety solution and which presents a satisfactory response in terms of mechanical resistance to the rigidity of the window and acoustic performance acceptable to the vehicle manufacturer.

[0009] The invention relates to this end to a system for closing an opening in the body of a vehicle, in particular an automobile, according to claim 1.Said system comprises a glazing comprising a window and a device for driving the window in vertical translational movement relative to said bodywork of said vehicle, between a position in which the opening is closed by said window and a retracted position of said window, or vice versa, said window being curved and laminated and comprising at least one outer glass sheet, one inner glass sheet, and at least one interlayer sheet of plastic material, located between said outer glass sheet and said inner glass sheet, each sheet having a peripheral edge, the edge of said inner glass sheet forming an overhang of the upper edge of the window, in the upper part of the glazing, the overhang being projecting relative to the edges of said interlayer sheet and of said outer glass sheet, said opening being delimited at least in the upper part by an upper edge of the bodywork.

[0010] The system according to the invention is remarkable in that it comprises, in the upper part of the glazing, a seal comprising an internal housing open downwards and capable of receiving the overhang of the inner glass sheet in the closed position, said seal comprising a lateral bulge, the edges of said interlayer sheet and of said outer glass sheet coming into contact with said lateral bulge in the closed position of the window, so that said lateral bulge is flush with a bodywork surface in the vicinity of said upper edge of the bodywork and is flush with an outer face of the outer glass sheet of the window in the closed position of the window and in that said lateral bulge of the seal extends between the upper edge of the bodywork and said edges of the interlayer and outer glass sheets, in the closed position of the glazing, over a height,so that the sum of the height of said overhang and the height of said lateral bulge over the sum of the thicknesses of said outer glass sheet and said inner glass sheet is equal to or less than 3.0, preferably between 1.0 and 2.90 by integrating these values, or even between 1.0 and 2.5 by integrating these values.,

[0011] Thus, said internal housing of the seal is capable of accommodating the overhang of the inner glass sheet in the closed position without accommodating the edges of said interlayer sheet and said outer glass sheet.

[0012] The invention thus proposes a new configuration of cooperation between the window and its environment, which makes it possible to reduce the thickness, visible from the outside, of the seal necessarily present in the closed position between the window and the bodywork.

[0013] This involves providing specific sizing of the overhang and the lateral bulge according to the thickness in a rigid manner (thickness of the outer and inner glass sheets) to achieve high sealing performance while creating a compact system, barely visible from the outside of the vehicle.

[0014] Preferably, the sum of the height of said overhang and the height of said bulge is between 5.0 and 10.0 mm; for example, it is 7.5 plus or minus 2.5 mm.

[0015] Preferably, the sum of the thicknesses of said outer glass sheet and said inner glass sheet is less than 5.0 mm.

[0016] Subsequently, the overhang will also be called "inner overhang" because it involves making the inner glass sheet larger than the outer glass sheet; in other words, only the inner glass sheet is entirely at nominal dimensions (dimensions of the bay to be closed).

[0017] The inside overhang width is the distance between a plane normal to the edge of the outer glass sheet and a plane normal to the edge of the inner glass sheet.

[0018] To facilitate the implementation of the lamination, it is preferable that the interlayer sheet be of dimensions (or substantially of dimensions) identical to the outer glass sheet, so that the edges of the outer and interlayer glass sheets are at the same level, all around the glass.

[0019] The present invention makes it possible to produce a glazing unit with a single internal overhang which will not be visible to a user of the vehicle, the overhang preferably extending over the upper edge of the glazing unit and being embedded in the seal fixed to the edge of the bodywork (delimiting the upper edge of the opening), in the closed position of the window.

[0020] Said glass preferably comprises only two sheets of glass: said outer sheet of glass and said inner sheet of glass.

[0021] Preferably, the overhang is bare; it is not covered with any protective layer or any seal or joint element.

[0022] Preferably, said lateral bulge is located next to the internal housing, more towards the outside.

[0023] Preferably, said lateral bulge is permanently flush, whatever the position of the window, with the bodywork surface in the vicinity of said upper edge of the bodywork and is flush only in the closed position of the window with an outer face of the outer glass sheet of the window.

[0024] The system according to the invention may also comprise the following features, taken separately or in combination:

[0025] - said overhang of the inner glass sheet projects, relative to the edges of the interlayer sheet and the outer glass sheet, by a height of at least 5.0 mm, in particular between 5.0 mm and 20.0 mm, or even between 8.0 mm and 18.0 mm,

[0026] - said overhang of the inner glass sheet projects, relative to the edges of the interlayer sheet and the outer glass sheet, to a height of at most 9.0 mm, in particular between 4.0 mm and 9.0 mm, or even between 5.0 mm and 9.0 mm or between 5.0 mm and 8.0 mm,

[0027] - said inner glass sheet has a thickness of at least 2.85 mm, in particular between 2.85 mm and 4.0 mm and has surface stresses greater than 80 MPa,

[0028] - the outer glass sheet has a thickness of between 1.0 mm and 2.6 mm, preferably between 1.6 mm and 2.1 mm, and has surface stresses of between 15 and 50 MPa,

[0029] - the interlayer sheet has a thickness of between 0.3 mm and 1.6 mm, preferably between 0.5 mm and 0.9 mm,

[0030] - the ratio between the thickness of the outer glass sheet and that of the inner glass sheet is between 0.34 and 0.9,

[0031] - the lateral bulge of the seal extends between the upper edge of the bodywork and the edges of the interlayer and outer glass sheets, in the closed position of the glazing, over a height of at least 1.0 mm, preferably between 2.0 and 8.0 mm, preferably between 2.0 and 5.0 mm,

[0032] - said internal housing of the seal comprises internal walls from which flexible lips protrude, capable of deforming and coming to rest against the internal glass sheet in the closed position of the window,

[0033] - said seal is made of elastically deformable material, preferably rubber or silicone,

[0034] - the inner glass sheet has a second overhang which extends at least partially over the lower edge of the window, the second overhang being projecting relative to the edges of said interlayer sheet and said outer glass sheet in the lower part of the glazing,

[0035] - the second overhang is fixed to a gripping element of said vertical translational movement device, which ensures the vertical translational movement of the window between said closed position and said retracted position, or vice versa,

[0036] - the window and the device for moving the window in vertical translation are carried by a vehicle door forming at least partially a lower part of said bodywork.

[0037] The invention also relates to glazing for a system as defined above.

[0038] The glazing comprises a pane and a device for moving the pane in vertical translation, said pane being curved and laminated and comprising at least one outer glass sheet, one inner glass sheet, and at least one interlayer sheet of plastic material located between said outer glass sheet and said inner glass sheet, each sheet having a peripheral edge, the edge of said inner glass sheet forming an overhang of the upper edge of the pane, in the upper part of the glazing, the overhang being projecting relative to the edges of said interlayer sheet and said outer glass sheet. According to the invention, the glazing is remarkable in that the overhang of the inner glass sheet projects, relative to the edges of the interlayer sheet and the outer glass sheet, over a height of at most 9.0 mm, in particular between 4.0 mm and 9.0 mm, or even between 5.0 mm and 8.0 mm.

[0039] According to an embodiment which will be described and illustrated subsequently, said inner glass sheet has a thickness of at least 2.85 mm, in particular between 2.85 mm and 4.0 mm and has surface stresses greater than 80 MPa.

[0040] Furthermore, the outer glass sheet may have a thickness of between 1.0 mm and 2.6 mm, preferably between 1.6 mm and 2.1 mm, and have surface stresses of between 15 and 50 MPa.

[0041] Furthermore, the interlayer sheet may have a thickness of between 0.3 mm and 1.6 mm, preferably between 0.5 mm and 0.9 mm.

[0042] More preferably, the ratio between the thickness of the outer glass sheet and that of the inner glass sheet is between 0.34 and 0.9.

[0043] According to an advantageous embodiment, the inner glass sheet has a second overhang which extends at least partially over the lower edge of the window, the second overhang being projecting relative to the edges of said interlayer sheet and said outer glass sheet in the lower part of the glazing.

[0044] According to this embodiment, it may be provided that the second overhang is fixed to a gripping element of said movement drive device, which ensures the vertical translational movement of the window between said closed position and said retracted position, or vice versa.

[0045] Preferably, said seal does not belong to the glazing.

[0046] The present invention will be better understood upon reading the detailed description below of non-limiting exemplary embodiments and the attached figures: - illustrates a partial vertical cross-sectional view of a glazing unit of the system according to the invention, in the closed position and a bodywork edge (delimiting the upper edge of the opening of the system), the glazing unit having an overhang in the upper part, and - illustrates a vertical cross-sectional view of a window holder, in which an overhang of the glazing unit is inserted in the lower part.

[0047] It is specified that the proportions between the various elements represented in the figures are not strictly respected in order to facilitate reading.

[0048] In this document, for the ranges mentioned, the beach boundaries are included in the ranges.

[0049] The "edge", or "edge", refers to the narrow side of a leaf, which is located approximately transversely between the two main faces of a leaf. The "lateral extension" of an edge is considered in this transverse direction between the main faces of a leaf.

[0050] The figure shows an upper part of a right side window 1 of a vehicle, which comprises a system according to the invention, this upper part being seen in section.

[0051] This is in particular a side glazing 1 of a door (not shown) of a motor vehicle which is movable in translation relative to this door substantially along the vertical between a retracted position in which the glazing is located entirely or almost entirely inside the door and a closed position in which the glazing closes an opening of the door. This glazing 1 thus creates in the closed position a vertical separation between an interior space I which is inside the vehicle and an exterior space E which is outside the vehicle.

[0052] The notions of “exterior” and “interior” are therefore considered in this document respectively in relation to this exterior space E and this interior space I.

[0053] In the embodiment shown in Figures 1 and 2, the glazing 1 is a single piece. It comprises a pane 2 which is curved (i.e. not flat) and laminated. However, for simplicity, it is considered in the drawings of Figures 1 and 2 that the pane 2 is flat.

[0054] The pane 2 of the glazing 1 is a laminated pane which comprises, from the outside to the inside, at least, in this order: an outer glass sheet 3, an interlayer sheet 4 made of plastic material then an inner glass sheet 5; however, it is possible for at least one other sheet to be interposed between the outer glass sheet 3 and the interlayer sheet of plastic material 4 or between the interlayer sheet of plastic material 4 and the inner glass sheet 5.

[0055] The outer glass sheet 3 has an outer face 30 which is oriented towards the exterior E, an intermediate face 32 which is oriented towards the intermediate sheet of plastic material 4, and a peripheral edge 31 located between these two faces.

[0056] The inner glass sheet 5 has an interlayer face 50 which is oriented towards the interlayer sheet of plastic material 4, an inner face 52 which is oriented towards the interior I and a peripheral edge 51 located between these two faces.

[0057] The plastic interlayer sheet 4 has an outer interlayer face 40 which is oriented towards the interlayer face 32 and which is here in contact with this interlayer face 32, an inner interlayer face 42 which is oriented towards the interlayer face 50 and which is here in contact with this interlayer face 50, as well as a peripheral edge 41 which is located between these two interlayer faces 40, 42.

[0058] The outer glass sheet 3 is for example a glass sheet having undergone a thermal bending operation before the manufacture of the laminated glass 2 and having a thickness e3 of between 1.0 mm and 2.6 mm, preferably between 1.6 mm and 2.1 mm.

[0059] The interlayer plastic sheet 4 is for example a polyvinyl butyral (PVB) sheet having a thickness e4 of between 0.3 mm and 1.6 mm, preferably between 0.5 mm and 0.9 mm. This interlayer sheet 4 can incorporate solar films, absorbent films, and can be designed to form a protective filter against ultraviolet, infrared, etc. radiation.

[0060] The inner glass sheet 5 is a glass sheet that has undergone thermal bending and thermal toughening and has a thickness e5 of at least 2.85 mm. The thickness e5 is in particular between 2.85 mm and 4.0 mm, preferably between 3.10 mm and 3.60 mm, and more preferably between 3.15 mm and 3.50 mm. The thickness e5 is here, for example, 3.15 mm.

[0061] In the case where the glass 2 comprises one or more other sheets in addition to the three mentioned previously, the inner glass sheet 5 is the sheet of the laminated glass which is the innermost.

[0062] As can be observed in, the inner glass sheet 5 has an overhang 53 in the upper part of the window 2, that is to say that it has a top part which exceeds the edges 41 and 31 of the interlayer 4 and outer 3 sheets, respectively, the edges 41 and 31 being substantially at the same level.

[0063] In the context of this embodiment, the overhang 53 of the inner glass sheet 5 projects, relative to the edges 41 of the interlayer sheet and that 31 of the outer glass sheet, over a height H of at least 5.0 mm (or at least substantially 5 mm), in particular between 5.0 mm and 20.0 mm, or even between 8.0 mm and 18.0 mm.

[0064] It is also provided that the inner glass sheet 5 has a thickness of at least 2.85 mm, and has surface stresses greater than 80 MPa. The inner glass sheet 5 has thus undergone a heat treatment aimed at increasing its impact resistance compared to a non-heat-treated glass sheet. This is particularly important when the overhang 53 is bare, that is to say when it is not covered with any protective layer or any seal or seal element.

[0065] Thus, the edge of the overhang 53 is not sharp; the edge can further be softened by grinding to further reduce the risk of cutting the skin of a vehicle user when using the vehicle.

[0066] The outer glass sheet 3 has a thickness e3 of between 1.0 mm and 2.6 mm (or substantially between 1 mm and 2.6 mm), preferably between 1.6 mm and 2.1 mm, and it has surface stresses of between 15 and 50 MPa. The thickness e3 is here, for example, 1.6 mm.

[0067] The interlayer sheet 4 has a thickness e4 of between 0.3 mm and 1.6 mm (or substantially between 0.3 mm and 1.6 mm), preferably between 0.5 mm and 0.9 mm. The thickness e4 here is for example 0.76 mm.

[0068] All of these dimensions and technical characteristics ensure that window 2 has both satisfactory mechanical strength and satisfactory acoustics for the comfort and safety of the vehicle passenger.

[0069] In particular, it is expected that the ratio between the thickness of the outer glass sheet 3 and that of the inner glass sheet 5 is preferably between 0.34 and 0.9 (or between substantially 0.34 and 0.9) to optimize acoustic performance and safety.

[0070] The inner glass sheet 5 also has an overhang 54 in the lower part of the window 2, shown in.

[0071] The overhang 54 preferably has the same height H as that of the overhang 53 in the upper part of the window 2.

[0072] It should be noted that window 2 has no overhang on its left and right side edges, to facilitate the sliding of the window when it is moved in vertical translation between its closed position and its retracted position, or vice versa.

[0073] As can be seen in the, the glazing 1 comprises, in addition to the window 2, along at least a portion of its lower edge, a device 6 for moving in vertical translation to allow the mobility of the window 2 in translation relative to a door of the vehicle. The device 6 for moving in vertical translation may comprise, within the meaning of the present invention, one or more holes partially or totally passing through said window (i.e. over a portion of the thickness of an element composing it or the entire thickness of this element or over a portion of the thickness of the window comprising at this location several elements, or even over the entire thickness of the window), one or more gripping elements (“holder” in English), one or more attachment gutters, one or more rails, or slides.

[0074] The gripping element here is a glass holder, for example having a substantially inverted H shape in cross-section and without a hole in the glass.

[0075] The glass holder is carried by the overhang 54 in the lower part of the glass, and only the overhang 54, which makes it possible to produce more compact glazing.

[0076] The window holder thus has: a first part consisting of two parallel walls 63, 64 connected at their base and forming a longitudinal groove, that is to say forming a U-shape in cross section, and a second part consisting of a tail 65 extending opposite the parallel walls 63, 64 relative to the base connecting these walls.

[0077] In the illustrated version, the assembly is carried out so that said parallel walls 63, 64 of said h-shape encase said window 2 in its lower part, the tail 65 then being substantially in the extension of the window 2.

[0078] This h-shape of the window holder is particularly advantageous because it allows the transmission of forces between the window holder and the window over a large surface area corresponding to the sum of the internal surfaces of the parallel walls 63, 64; however, it is entirely possible to use a simple plate, this plate having for example at least two parts: a first part for cooperation with the window and a second part for cooperation with the drive mechanism (raising / lowering) of the window.

[0079] On the, the window 2 is curved and the parallel walls 63, 64 and the tail 65 are flat; however it is possible for the parallel walls 63, 64 and / or the tail 65 to be curved. The tail 65 extends approximately from half of the base connecting the parallel walls 63, 64, but it is also possible to position the tail 65 in the extension of one or other of the parallel walls 63, 64.

[0080] On the tail 65 is not parallel to the walls 63, 64. The axis A illustrating the average plane of the glazing 1 at its lower end when the latter is correctly positioned with respect to the glass holder, the tail 65 is oriented at a non-zero angle with respect to the axis A and which is a function of the curvature of the glass 2.

[0081] The tail 65 is intended to be connected to a motorized drive system not shown to allow the glazing 1 to be raised and lowered in the vehicle door.

[0082] The assembly of the glass holder to the glass 2 is carried out on a template allowing the tolerances on the glass holder / glass 2 assembly to be checked.

[0083] In accordance with the invention, in addition to the glazing 1 (i.e. the window 2 described above and at least one window holder), the system in accordance with the invention comprises other elements which will now be described:

[0084] First of all, it is noted that the system comprises an upper edge 71 of the bodywork 7 which delimits the opening made in the bodywork: in fact, the system for closing the opening is designed to produce an indirect flush of the outer face 30 of the outer glass sheet 3 of the window 2 with an outer surface 70 of the wall of the bodywork 7 at the level of the upper edge 71 of the bodywork which delimits the opening closed by the glazing (in the closed position). This flush is indirect in the sense that a seal portion is present between the upper edge 71 and the outer face 30 and this seal portion is flush with both the upper edge 71 and the outer face 30.

[0085] It is observed that, behind the upper edge 71, the bodywork has a sheet metal profile 72 in the shape of an inverted U, having two side walls 73 and 74 connected by a top wall 75. One of the walls of this profile is fixed to the upper edge 71 of the bodywork by pinching the sheet metal folded back on itself.

[0086] As can be seen in, the profile 72 accommodates a seal 8, which the system according to the invention comprises, and which at least partially covers the upper edge 71 of the bodywork 7. As usual, this seal 8 is illustrated in the “rest” position, that is to say when the window is not in the closed position, in order to illustrate its profile as manufactured.

[0087] The seal 8 comprises an internal housing 80, capable of receiving the overhang 53 of the window 2 in the closed position; this internal housing 80 only receives this overhang 53; it does not receive the edge (or the edge) of the interlayer sheet 4, nor the edge (or the edge) of the outer glass sheet 3.

[0088] It is observed that the seal 8 has a lateral bulge 81 which covers a section of the upper edge 71 of the bodywork (the section being the outermost part of the edge 71).

[0089] The lateral bulge 81 of the seal is also the part of the seal against which the edges 41 and 31, respectively of the interlayer sheet 4 and of the outer glass sheet 3, are positioned when the window 2 is in the closed position. Thus, the lateral bulge 81 of the seal 8 is flush with both the upper edge 71 of the bodywork, the outer surface 70 of the bodywork and the outer face 30 of the outer glass sheet 3 of the window 2, in the closed position of the window, ensuring continuity between the outer surface 70 and the face 30. Thus, when the window 2 is in the closed position, the system gives the impression that the outer surface of the window is an extension of the bodywork 7; when the window 2 is not in the closed position, the lateral bulge 81 of the seal 8 is and remains flush with the outer surface 70 of the bodywork.

[0090] It is expected that the lateral bulge 81 of the seal 8 extends between the upper edge 71 of the bodywork and the edges 41 and 31 of the interlayer 4 and outer glass 3 sheets, in the closed position of the glazing, over a height w of at least 1.0 mm, preferably between 2.0 and 8.0 mm, preferably between 2.0 and 5.0 mm. A low height reduces air turbulence during operation of the vehicle.

[0091] The sum of the height H of the overhang 53 and the height w of the lateral bulge 81 over the sum of the thicknesses, respectively e3 and e5, of said outer glass sheet 3 and said inner glass sheet 5 is equal to or less than 3.0, preferably between 1.0 and 2.90 by integrating these values, or even between 1.0 and 2.5 by integrating these values. All of these dimensions and technical characteristics provide the window 2 and the closing system with both satisfactory mechanical strength and satisfactory acoustics for the comfort and safety of the vehicle passenger, while being aesthetically discreet, i.e. barely visible from outside the vehicle.

[0092] To ensure good sound insulation, the internal housing 80 of the seal 8 comprises internal walls 82 from which flexible lips 83 protrude, capable of deforming and coming to rest against the internal glass sheet 5, and in particular against the surfaces 50 and 52 of the sheet 5 and of the overhang 53 in the closed position of the window.

[0093] The depth of the internal housing 80 is substantially equal to the sum of the height H of the overhang 53 and the height w of the lateral bulge, considered in the same direction.

[0094] To allow this deformation, the seal 8 is made of elastically deformable material, for example rubber or silicone.

[0095] The seal 8 is held in the profile 72 of the body by gluing or simply by insertion.

[0096] A wall 82 of the seal may have an end curved outwards (see) to be positioned astride the side wall of profile 72. This also helps to hold the seal 8 in the profile 72 of the bodywork 7. A projecting boss 76 may also form a stop for the removal of the seal 8 from the profile 72.

[0097] The present invention is described in the foregoing by way of example. It is understood that a person skilled in the art is able to carry out different variants of the invention without departing from the scope of the patent as defined by the claims.
