Abstract

A control method and associated system enable the thermal management of cables within a wind turbine structure. An airflow is established through the structure, circulating around the cables to dissipate the heat generated by thermal transfer from the core through the surrounding insulating layer. The ambient temperature and volumetric flow rate of the air adjacent to the cables are measured. Based on the flow rate and ambient temperature, a threshold current capacity limit for the cables is determined, which is used as a control factor to increase the wind turbine's power output within the cables' thermal limits.
