AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
Existing image heating apparatuses struggle to effectively cool the non-contact regions of a rotatable member when small-size papers are processed, leading to excessive temperature rise and inadequate compatibility with various paper widths.
Method used
An image heating apparatus with an air blowing cooling mechanism featuring ducts, fans, and shutter members to regulate airflow and cool the non-sheet-passing regions, ensuring temperature control across different paper widths.
Benefits of technology
The apparatus achieves efficient temperature regulation and compatibility with various paper sizes by effectively cooling the non-contact regions, preventing overheating and ensuring consistent image fixing quality.

Abstract
The invention relates to an image heating apparatus (A) comprising: a first rotating element (1) and a second rotating element (1d) configured to form a contact zone (5) in which a toner image is fixed onto a recording material (P); an air blowing mechanism (30); a duct (32L) configured to guide air from said air blowing mechanism (30) to one end of the first rotating element (1) longitudinally; and an opening and closing mechanism (34L) configured to open and close an air blowing orifice (31L) of the duct (32L). Said opening and closing mechanism (34L) includes several sealing elements (36L, 37L) configured to close the air blowing orifice (31L) together. The plurality of sealing elements includes a first sealing element (36L) and a second sealing element (37L) positioned such that the first element (36L) and the second element (37L) overlap at least partially when the air blow-through orifice (31L) is open. When the air blow-through orifice (31L) is closed, with respect to the longitudinal direction of the first rotating element (1), the first sealing element (36L) is located on one side of the central portion and the second sealing element (37L) is located on one side of the end portion. The second sealing element (37L) closes the air blow-through orifice (31L) by moving relative to the first sealing element (36L).
