AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing standby power supplies struggle to adapt to sudden and extreme power changes, especially during power grid failures, failing to adequately supply power to critical components of wind generators like pitch bearings and yaw bearings.

Method used

A standby power supply system integrating alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) power sources, where AC power is provided by diesel generators and DC power by fuel cells or batteries, with a control mechanism to switch between them based on power thresholds, ensuring balanced power delivery and efficient charging from the AC grid.

Benefits of technology

The system effectively balances average and peak power demands, ensuring reliable operation of wind generator components during power failures by isolating loads from grid transformers, reducing maintenance costs, and optimizing hardware investment.

Abstract

The present invention relates to a backup power supply comprising: a first auxiliary power supply, configured to provide alternating current, connected to an input terminal of an AC / DC converter; an AC / DC converter, configured to convert alternating current to direct current, the output terminal of which is connected to an output terminal of the auxiliary power supply; and a second auxiliary power supply, configured to provide direct current, connected to the output terminal of the auxiliary power supply. Furthermore, the present invention also relates to a method of operation for said power supply. According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a highly reliable backup power supply solution adaptable to the power consumption requirements of highly variable loads, such as a forced-draft fan.
