Abstract

Self-braking rope descender. The invention consists of a device that includes a kinetic braking mechanism, and in which a pre-braking stage is defined prior to the passage of the rope through said kinetic braking mechanism, such that the device is constituted from a housing in which an inlet hole (6) and an outlet hole (7) are defined for the corresponding rope (8), in which a pulley (9) is mounted for the passage of the rope (8) forming a constricted loop on it, so that once the rope has passed through this mechanism it is passed in a second braking stage over a conventional centrifugal braking mechanism, which is fixed laterally to the housing of the device.
