Abstract

The present invention relates to an in vitro method for diagnosing hypophosphatasia (HPP) in a patient, wherein the method comprises determining the expression of TNSALP in a neutrophil population obtained from a patient sample, wherein a reduction in the percentage of the neutrophil population expressing TNSALP of at least 15% with respect to a reference value, or detecting TNSALP expression in less than 30% of the neutrophil population, is indicative that the patient suffers from hypophosphatasia. The invention also describes a method for selecting a patient to receive treatment for hypophosphatasia, as well as a kit for determining the percentage of a neutrophil population expressing TNSALP in a patient sample and uses of the kit.
