Wind turbine

Abstract

The invention relates to a turbine (1) for converting wind energy into rotational mechanical work. The turbine has an axis (2) and at least a first (3, 4) and a second (5, 6) set of vanes mounted on the axis in an adjacent sequence. Each set of vanes comprises two vanes being in line with each other and pointing in opposite directions with respect to the axis. According to the invention, the first set of vanes (3, 4) and the second set of vanes (5, 6) are mounted mutually perpendicular on the turbine axis, and each vane comprises an inner portion (3A – 6A) and an outer portion (3B – 6B) which is curved or bent with respect to the inner portion. The curved or bent outer portion (3B – 6B) is further being inclined with respect to the inner portion (3A – 6A) in a fashion to direct wind diverted from the first set of vanes (3, 4) to be captured by the second set of vanes (5, 6), or vice versa.
