Photoprotective coating films and methods for manufacturing thereof

Abstract

The disclosure concerns a coating film, a method of selecting the coating film for deposition on packaging items configured to contain light-sensitive substances, and a method of manufacturing the coating film. The film is deposited by a process of Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) on at least one surface of a substrate, preferably configured as a receptacle- and / or packaging item adapted to contain a light-sensitive substance, such as a pharmaceutical compound and / or a medical preparation. The coating film comprises one or more layers configured to absorb and / or reflect wavelength(s) of light incident on the coated surface, thereby preventing said wavelength(s) of light from deteriorating light-sensitive contents of the receptacle- and / or packaging item. Thickness of the coating film is determined based on a refractive index of its deposition material, at a predetermined wavelength.
