Abstract

A method for improving the adhesion of a chromium layer to a metal substrate is disclosed. The method comprises: - subjecting the metal substrate to a pretreatment process, - subjecting the acid-treated metal substrate to the electroplating process in an aqueous electroplating bath of trivalent chromium cations, to form the chromium layer directly on the acid-treated surface of the metal substrate without an intervening layer of material in between.
