Electrical production of gaseous fuel for combustion

Abstract

The present invention provides a process for modifying a carbon dioxide (CO2) -containing flue gas stream using electrical heating, and utilizing the obtained modified gas stream in a subsequent combustion, in steps comprising - obtaining a first gas stream containing carbon dioxide (CO2) as an industrial flue gas stream, - reacting the obtained first gas stream, optionally combined with one or more further CO2-containing gases or gas mixtures, at an elevated temperature achieved by electrical heating, with a carbonaceous reactant to form a reduction mixture and to cause a reduction reaction, where the carbon dioxide (CO2) reacts into carbon monoxide (CO), thereby producing a second gas stream containing carbon monoxide (CO), and - utilizing the obtained second gas stream having an elevated temperature as a gaseous fuel in a combustion.
