Fiber-based cladding mode stripper for dissipating excess optical power

Abstract

A cladding mode stripper and a manufacturing method thereof is provided. The cladding mode stripper (100) comprises a double-clad fiber (102) with an inner cladding and an outer cladding, and having one or more segments with a higher refraction index polymer (112) than the rest of a polymer coating of the outer cladding of the double-clad fiber (102), and wherein at least the one or more segments of the double-clad fiber (102) are arranged to pass through between a first plate (116) and second plate (118) along a groove. The first plate (116) and the second plate (118) are made of a transparent material having a higher refractive index than polymer (112) and provide increased volume for dissipating heat from the one or more segments.
