Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a feeding device for supplying nails to a nail-setting device. The present invention further relates to a nail-setting device.

[0002] Furthermore, the present invention relates to an arrangement for sequentially driving a plurality of nails into a component, as well as the use of such an arrangement.

[0003] Nails are among the oldest known fasteners in construction, used in building, shipbuilding, and defense, among other applications, primarily in connection with wood. A distinction is made between metal nails, usually iron or steel, and wooden nails, which have been increasingly used in recent years to join one or more wooden components. Traditionally, nails are driven into the material with hammers. This usually requires several hammer blows, and there is a risk of bending the nail if the head is not struck in line with the shank.

[0004] With increasing industrialization, production speed becomes ever more important for economic reasons. For this reason, nail-setting tools, for example, have been developed that can be equipped with different drive concepts. Pneumatic nailers, which are typically operated at pressures of 5 to 6 bar, are of particular importance. Driving speeds of approximately 25 meters per second can be achieved with such pneumatic nailers.

[0005] Conventional pneumatic nailers have a base body that includes a barrel for guiding a nail to be driven into a workpiece and a firing pin that drives the nail. The barrel extends between a front free end, which is placed against the workpiece to drive the nail, and a rear drive-side end, which is fluidically connected to the compressed air supply, and forms a firing channel on its inner side.

[0006] Pneumatic nailers of this type are widely used. In recent years, there has been an increasing need to automate the production of components, such as wall elements for prefabricated houses. This requires driving a large number of nails sequentially into a component. Gantry systems are typically used for this purpose, in which a nail-driving unit is automatically moved to drive nails into the component at defined positions. The nails are usually fed sequentially to the nail-driving unit from a magazine located on the side of the unit.

[0007] Such a setup has generally proven effective for manufacturing components. However, it is considered a disadvantage that the magazines of nails attached to the nail-setting device only hold a very limited number of nails, making the insertion of a new magazine necessary on a regular basis and resulting in considerable downtime for the production plant.

[0008] The object of the present invention is therefore to provide a feeding device, a nail-setting device and an arrangement for sequentially driving a plurality of nails into a component, which avoid the aforementioned disadvantages and in particular enable the most continuous possible feeding and driving of nails.

[0009] This task is solved in a feeding device of the type mentioned above by having a hose line with a front connection for attachment to a nail setting device and at least one rear connection for attachment to a supply unit for nails, whereby nails can be fed to the nail setting device one after the other in their longitudinal direction through the hose line.

[0010] In a nail-setting device of the type mentioned above, which includes a firing channel for guiding a nail to be driven into a component and a firing pin driving it, the problem is solved by the fact that the nail-setting device has a connection for attaching a feeding device according to the invention.

[0011] Furthermore, the problem underlying the invention is solved in an arrangement for the sequential driving of a plurality of nails into a component with a nail-setting device and a feeding device connected to the nail-setting device.

[0012] The invention is based on the idea of not storing the nails to be driven directly at the nail-setting device in the form of a magazine, but rather transporting them to the nail-setting device as needed over a longer distance. In other words, the plan is to provide nails in a supply unit located away from the nail-setting device and transport them longitudinally to the nail-setting device via a hose. A hose has a certain degree of flexibility and is suitable for reliably supplying the nails to the nail-setting device over a longer distance. Such a feeding device is suitable in principle for automated production lines where the nail-setting device is moved by a robot, as well as for hand-operated systems where a nail-setting device can be mounted on a manually movable carriage.

[0013] By connecting the feed device to the nail-setting device, the arrangement according to the invention is created, with which the nails can be continuously fed directly to the nail-setting device over a longer distance and driven into a component. The connection of the feed device to the nail-setting device can be effected in a manner known per se via a screw connection, in particular one with a union nut, or by another known coupling device.

[0014] The hose assembly can, in particular, include a hose made of polyamide, especially PA12. This can be a standard pneumatic hose. Such hoses have proven to be particularly abrasion-resistant for the continuous longitudinal feeding of nails.

[0015] Preferably, the feeding device includes a drive unit for conveying the nails towards the front connection. Specifically, the drive unit can comprise an ejector pump, particularly one operated by compressed air, which divides the hose line into a rear, vacuum-operated hose line located farther from the nail setting tool during operation, in which the nails can be conveyed towards the front connection by vacuum, and a front, positive-pressure hose line located near the nail setting tool during operation, in which the nails can be conveyed towards the front connection by positive pressure. In other words, two conveying sections are provided.A vacuum is created in a rear section of the hose, meaning the nails are essentially drawn forward from the connection to the dispensing unit. Conversely, a positive pressure exists in a front section of the hose, near the nailing tool, so the nails are forced towards the front connection or the nailing tool under pressure. This setup can be achieved using an ejector pump. This type of pump uses a fluid jet to generate the pumping action. A motive fluid is injected into the ejector pump and propelled forward, creating a vacuum in the section behind the pump. This vacuum draws in the nails. As the nails pass through the ejector pump, they transition from a vacuum to a pressure zone and are accelerated in the process.

[0016] Preferably, the positive pressure hose line is shorter than the negative pressure hose line. This design is based on the consideration that the nails are initially conveyed over a relatively long distance under negative pressure before they enter the positive pressure range relatively close to the nail-driving device.

[0017] To ensure a continuous feed to a nailing tool, a buffer section, or part thereof, can be provided in a section of the hose adjacent to the front connection. This buffer allows the nails to accumulate before being fed into the nailing tool. In other words, a section is provided before the nails reach the tool where they are placed sequentially, so that the tip of each nail touches the head of the adjacent nail. This creates a buffer, ensuring that a nail is always ready to be fed into the firing channel of the nailing tool. Such a buffer minimizes operational interruptions.

[0018] In the arrangement according to the invention, the damming section can also extend into the nail setting device, so that a rear part of the damming section is arranged in the hose line of the feed device and a front part of the damming section is arranged in the nail setting device.

[0019] A pressure-blocking sensor can be installed at the rear end of the pressure-blocking section to detect whether the accumulated nails extend to that point. Such a sensor can be, for example, a light barrier, a touch sensor, or another type of sensor. This allows a control system to determine whether the pressure-blocking section is filled with nails.

[0020] The feeding device can further include a switchable diverter valve that splits the hose at its rear end, so that two hose sections open into the diverter valve at the rear, each with a connection at its rear end for attachment to a nail dispensing unit. Preferably, the diverter valve has a pneumatic cylinder for switching it. Such a diverter valve is designed to switch between at least two, and in particular exactly two, nail dispensing units. For example, if one dispensing unit is empty and needs to be refilled with nails, production can continue in the meantime by switching to the other dispensing unit. The diverter valve thus has the basic structure of a 3 / 2-way valve.

[0021] The feeding device may further comprise at least one nail supply unit connected to the rear end of the hose. The primary function of the nail supply unit is to provide a large quantity of nails and reliably insert them into the rear end of the hose.

[0022] At least one supply unit can include a vibratory feeder, in particular a vibratory spiral feeder, by means of which nails can be fed head-to-head to the end of the hose furthest from the nail-setting device and inserted individually one after the other into the hose. Such a supply unit is particularly suitable for headed nails. These can be fed in a row to the rear end of the hose.

[0023] Specifically, the vibratory conveyor can be connected to a hopper from which nails can be fed. Furthermore, sensors can be provided to monitor the hopper's fill level.

[0024] It is therefore intended that the nails can be placed in a bunker in a disordered manner and sorted by appropriate devices so that they can be fed one after the other, hanging by their heads, to the rear end of the hose line, where they are then sucked in by the negative pressure.

[0025] Furthermore, at least one supply unit can include a sorting unit designed to sort, in particular, headless nails such that the nails point uniformly in one conveying direction and can thus be inserted into the rear end of the hose. Headless nails are handled differently and can, for example, be arranged by vibrating troughs so that they point in the same direction and can thus be continuously inserted into the end of the hose. In this embodiment as well, nails can be placed in a hopper or other container whose fill level is monitored by sensors.

[0026] According to a further embodiment, at least one supply unit can include an unwinding station for unwinding nail magazines and for pushing the nails from the magazines, so that the nails can be pushed directly from the nail magazine into the rear end of the hose line. This embodiment is suitable for both headed and headless nails. It is provided that the nails are wound onto wood in very large quantities. In the supply unit, the nails are pushed out of the magazine, for example by means of a pneumatic cylinder, and thereby fed directly to the rear end of the hose line.

[0027] According to a preferred embodiment, the feeding device has two supply units, each connected to a rear end of the hose. This embodiment is based on the idea of enabling a continuous supply of nails. If one supply unit is empty, the diverter valve allows switching to the other supply unit, so that production can continue without interruption. In the meantime, a new nail magazine can be inserted into the first supply unit.

[0028] The feeding device may also include a control unit. This can be configured to interrupt the insertion of nails into the hose at the supply unit(s) when the buildup sensor detects that the buildup is completely full of nails. In other words, the buildup acts as a buffer that is replenished only when needed by feeding new nails forward from the supply unit. As long as the buildup is full of nails, such a supply of nails from the supply unit is not required.

[0029] The nail-setting device according to the invention preferably has a feed channel leading to the connection of the hose line, which runs obliquely to the firing channel and opens into it. The nails can be fed to the firing channel through this feed channel, which is connected to the hose line during operation. The feed channel can also include part of the damming section.

[0030] Specifically, singulation devices can be provided to feed nails individually from the feed channel to the firing channel of the nail-setting device. This design is based on the consideration that the nails, which lie directly behind one another, tip to head, in the accumulation section before reaching the nail-setting device, must be separated in order to be driven into a component.

[0031] In a specific embodiment, the singulation means can include a holding device designed to positively and / or force-fit block a front nail in the feed channel. For this purpose, the holding device can include at least one locking element that is movable transversely to the feed channel between a blocking position, in which the nail is blocked before reaching the firing channel, and a release position, in which the nail can be fed further into the firing channel. In other words, the nails are released individually. For this purpose, a locking element is provided which, in its blocking position, projects into the feed channel and blocks the movement of the respective front nail, whereas in its release position, it is preferably moved out of the feed channel, thus releasing the front nail.

[0032] The locking element can be designed to positively engage a nail with its head in front of the head. In cases where nails with heads are to be driven in, the locking element can thus grip the nail at the head and block it securely. Specifically, this can be achieved, for example, by a recess for the nail shank formed in the locking element.

[0033] The holding device can also include a front locking element and a rear locking element. The underlying principle of this design is to block both the foremost nail in the jamming section and the following nail, and thus all subsequent nails in the jamming section, preventing them from entering the firing channel. The front nail can then be released, while the following nail remains blocked. The front locking element can then be returned to its blocking position before the rear locking element is moved to its release position. This causes the overpressure in the jamming section to move the previously following nail forward toward the firing channel, but it is prevented from entering by the front locking element. The rear locking element is then returned to its blocking position, thus stopping the nails following in the jamming section. Now, by moving the front locking element to its release position, the front nail can be individually inserted into the firing channel. In other words, the nails are separated by alternately moving the two locking elements. This procedure is particularly suitable for headless nails, which, unlike headed nails, cannot be individually gripped by a form-fitting mechanism.

[0034] Preferably, the front locking element is designed and arranged such that, in its blocking position, it projects into the feed channel in such a way that a front nail can be stopped in the jamming section, particularly by positive locking, before being fed into the firing channel. Thus, it is provided that the front nail is prevented from entering the firing channel by the mechanical blocking of the feed channel by the front locking element. Preferably, the nail rests with its tip against the front locking element.

[0035] The rear locking element can be designed to clamp a nail, particularly a headless nail, in the feed channel by friction. This allows the nail following the front nail to be clamped against the wall of the feed channel by friction. Subsequent nails, which are pushed forward by the prevailing overpressure during operation, can also be stopped in this way and inserted individually into the firing channel one after the other.

[0036] Each locking element can be equipped with a pneumatic cylinder for actuation. This enables rapid actuation while simultaneously allowing the application of relatively high forces.

[0037] The singulation device may also include a flap mechanism with a pivoting flap. This flap may be designed to selectively block the feed channel. In particular, such a flap may be mechanically coupled to the firing pin of the nail-setting device, so that a nail can only be fed when the firing pin is in a retracted position and the firing channel is clear.

[0038] The arrangement according to the invention is particularly suitable for feeding and driving in lignocellulosic material, especially nails made of wood and / or a wood-based material, preferably an organically bonded wood-based material. The nails preferably consist of a resin-bonded laminated timber or a resin-bonded fiber composite containing lignocellulosic fibers from annual plants. The organically bonded wood-based material may contain phenolic resin as the synthetic resin. Preferably, the organically bonded wood-based material contains synthetic resin in an amount of at least 5% by weight, in particular at least 10% by weight, more preferably at least 15% by weight, more preferably at least 18% by weight, and / or at most 40% by weight, in particular at most 30% by weight, more preferably at most 25% by weight, and more preferably at most 20% by weight.

[0039] Such nails made of a lignocellulosic material are particularly suitable for joining wooden components, as they are a similar material and can be easily machined, unlike metal and / or plastic nails. Preferably, the nails are made of resin-bonded laminated timber or a resin-bonded fiber composite containing lignocellulosic fibers from annual plants. Furthermore, the nails can have a density of > 0.65 g / cm³, in particular a density of > 0.85 g / cm³, and preferably a density of > 1.0 g / cm³.

[0040] Preferably, the nails for which the arrangement according to the invention can be used have a nail shank at the front end of which a nail tip is provided in the form of a conical round point, wherein the tip angle of the nail point is > 36°, in particular > 40°, preferably in the range of 45° to 60°, and most preferably 45° or 60°. The diameter of the nail shank is preferably at least 2 mm, in particular at least 3 mm, more preferably at least 4 mm, and / or at most 8 mm, in particular at most 6 mm, more preferably at most 5 mm.

[0041] The arrangement according to the invention, particularly when used for feeding and driving in nails made of lignocellulosic material, can be employed in such a way that the nails are driven directly into a component, i.e., without the need for pre-drilling. This enables a particularly fast and therefore economical driving in of a large number of nails successively.

[0042] For further details of the invention, reference is made to the dependent claims and the accompanying drawing. The drawing shows: Figure 1 shows an arrangement for sequentially driving a plurality of nails into a component according to the present invention in a perspective view; Figure 2 shows the nail-setting device of the arrangement. Figure 1 in perspective view; Figure 3 the nail-setting device made of Figure 2 in a different perspective view; Figure 4 the nail-setting device made of Figure 2 and Figure 3in a sectional view; Figure 5 the drive unit of the arrangement made of Figure 1 in perspective view; Figure 6 the switch of the arrangement made of Figure 1 in perspective view; and Figure 7 the two provisioning units of the arrangement made of Figure 1 in perspective view.

[0043] The Figure 1 Figure 1 shows an arrangement 1 for sequentially driving a plurality of nails into a component according to the present invention. This arrangement comprises a nail-setting device 2, which is configured here as a pneumatic nailer, and a feed device 3 connected to it, which is configured to successively feed nails to the nail-setting device 2 for driving into a component.

[0044] The nail setting device 2 is in the Figures 2 to 4The following is a detailed description. This is a nail-setting device 2 for mounting on an automated production system. The nail-setting device 2 has a base body 4 in which a firing channel 5 is formed for guiding a nail to be driven into a component and a firing pin 6 that drives the nail. The firing pin 6 is pneumatically actuated and is connected to a pneumatic piston 7 for this purpose.

[0045] A feed channel 9 is formed in a front device nose 8 of the nail-setting device 2. This feed channel runs obliquely towards the firing channel 5 and opens into it. The feed channel 9 serves to feed nails sequentially into the firing channel 5 so that they can be driven individually into a component. The feed channel 9 is designed in multiple sections and extends over the device nose 8 and a tube 10 attached to it. A connection 12 for attaching it to the feeding device 3 is provided at the free, rear end 11 of the tube.

[0046] The feed device 3 comprises a hose 13 with a front connection for attachment to the nail-setting device 2. At the rear, the hose 13 branches into two hose sections 13a, 13b, each leading to a supply unit 14, as shown in Figure 7 The detailed diagram shows the supply units 14, each arranged on a movable support frame 15 made of metal profiles, and each comprising an unwinding station 16 for unwinding nail magazines 17 and means for pushing the nails out of the magazines. Specifically, the nails are pushed out of the nail magazines by means of pneumatic cylinders 18 and thus inserted into the rear ends of the hose line 13, furthest from the setting tool.

[0047] From each supply unit 14, a hose section 13a, 13b runs to a switchable diverter valve 19, which is described in detail in Figure 6The diverter valve 19 has two rear connections 20, each with a hose section 13a, 13b leading to an actuating unit 14. A front connection 21 is also provided, which is equipped with the hose 13 leading to the nailing device 2. Thus, the diverter valve is designed as a 3 / 2-way valve and can be switched by means of a pneumatic cylinder 22, so that either hose from the two supply units 14 can be connected to the hose 13 leading to the nailing device 2.

[0048] The feeding device 3 further comprises a drive unit 23 to convey nails from the respective supply unit 14 towards the nail-setting device 2. The drive unit has a pneumatically operated ejector pump 24, which divides the hose line 13 into a rear negative pressure hose line 25 located further away from the nail-setting device and a significantly shorter front positive pressure hose line 26 located closer to the nail-setting device. The drive unit 23 is described in detail in Figure 5 The diagram shows a vacuum connection 27 on the left side for the vacuum hose 25 and a positive pressure connection 28 on the right side for the positive pressure hose 26. A compressed air connection 26 is also provided in the center for connecting compressed air.

[0049] A backwater section 30 is provided in the overpressure hose line 26 and in the feed channel 9 of the nail setting device 2, in which the nails can accumulate before being fed into the firing channel 6 of the nail setting device 2, as is the case, for example, in Figure 4 As shown. At the rear end of the jam, furthest from the setting device, a jam sensor 31 is provided, by means of which it can be detected whether the jam 30 is completely filled with nails.

[0050] The nail setting device 2 is further equipped with singulation means 32 to feed nails individually from the feed channel 9 to the firing channel 5 of the nail setting device 2. In this case, these singulation means 32 comprise a holding device 33, which is designed to positively and / or forcefully block a front nail in the feed channel 9.

[0051] Specifically, the holding device 33 comprises a locking element 34, which is movable transversely to the feed channel 9 between a blocking position, in which the nail is blocked before reaching the firing channel 5, and a release position, in which the nail can be fed further into the firing channel 5. The locking element 34 is actuated by means of a pneumatic cylinder 35.

[0052] The system is designed so that nails are continuously fed to the nail-setting device 2. For this purpose, nails are pushed from the respective nail magazine 16 at the supply unit 14 and inserted into the rear end of the hose line 13. In the section of the hose line between the supply units 14 and the drive unit 23, the nails are conveyed sequentially in their longitudinal direction by negative pressure. After passing through the drive unit 23, the nails are conveyed by positive pressure in the positive pressure hose line 23 to the nail-setting device 2. Before reaching the firing channel 5, the nails are stopped by the holding device 33, so that several nails are in the accumulation section 30. If a nail is to be driven into a component, a nail is fed to the firing channel 5 by means of the singulation device 32 and driven into a component by the firing pin 6.

[0053] Sensor 31 continuously monitors whether the storage section 30 is completely filled with nails. If so, the supply units 14 are controlled so that no further nails are introduced into the hose line 13. Only when the storage section 30 is no longer completely filled with nails are more nails supplied from the supply units 14.

[0054] If the nail magazine 17 of a dispensing station 16 is empty, the switching switch 19 can be used to switch to the other supply unit 14, so that nails can continue to be fed continuously to the nailing device 2. In the meantime, a new nail magazine 17 can be inserted into the dispensing station 16. In this way, continuous operation of the nailing device 2 is possible. Reference symbol list
