Abstract
Description
This addition concerns improvements made to the Patent filed on 18 / 10 / 89 by the applicant under the same title and registered under Number 89 13727. It concerns a low-profile mobile sorter intended mainly for sorting fodder pea and cereal seeds on the farm, whereas conventional sorters are high and fixed, requiring the presence of an elevator to feed them. Unlike the original design described in the main patent and the first addition, the present invention comprises two long, alternating longitudinally moving grids at the top (when the upper grid advances, the other retracts). These grids are driven bilaterally by two connecting rods with eccentrics fixed to the end of the shaft of a four-bladed fan, which is driven (500 to 600 rpm) by an independent motor. The airflow circulating between the two grids eliminates straw or light impurities that pass through the first grid (oblong holes for grain). The second grid (preferably equipped with round holes) retains these light impurities for more effective removal. Whole and broken grains, after passing through the first two flat, rotating screens, fall into a fixed semi-circular screen at the bottom. Inside this screen, a screw brush, approximately 250 mm in diameter, rotates at about 40 revolutions per minute. This screw brush is driven by a geared motor. The movement of the nylon bristles, arranged in spirals, is designed to move the grain and even lift it into the slightly inclined, fixed semi-circular screen. Broken or undersized grains then pass through the holes in the trough screen, the perforations of which have been determined according to each grain size. They are collected in a chute inclined parallel to the screw brush and fixed semi-circular screen assembly and slide downwards into a receiving tray designed for this purpose. To prevent broken grains from becoming trapped as they pass through the perforations of the fixed semi-circular screen, the screen is swept along its entire path by a flexible rubber scraper (or brush) that pivots at each end of the auger shaft. The back-and-forth sweeping motion is controlled by a device located at the lower end of the auger brush. This movement is achieved at low speed by a chain drive: a small gear at the end of the auger brush shaft drives another gear four or five times larger, which is equipped with a nylon cam inside which slides a steel rod connected to a fixed pivot point located a certain distance from the frame. As the cam rotates at low speed, it forces a back-and-forth motion on the steel rod, which is connected at its lower end to the scraper mechanism by a connecting rod.
