AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing vehicle bumpers require complex structures with foam absorbers to meet safety standards, which increase mass, assembly complexity, and costs, necessitating a solution to eliminate foam absorbers while maintaining structural integrity.

Method used

A vehicle front face design comprising a bumper crossmember, bumper skin, and stiffening elements that connect first and second bumper elements, eliminating the need for foam absorbers by providing structural rigidity through flexible blades or springs.

Benefits of technology

The design achieves structural rigidity without foam absorbers, reducing mass and assembly complexity, while maintaining safety and aesthetic appearance.

Abstract

The invention relates to a front end of a motor vehicle, comprising a bumper crossmember (2) and a bumper skin, the bumper skin being positioned opposite the crossmember (2) and defining an internal space (3) between the bumper skin and the crossmember (2). The front end comprises a first bumper element (4) extending from the crossmember (2) onto an upper portion of the front end, and a second bumper element (7) extending from the crossmember (2) onto a lower portion of the front end. The front end comprises at least one stiffening element (12) extending into the internal space (3) and designed to stiffen the bumper skin. Each stiffening element (12) connects the first (4) and second (7) elements and is foam-free. The invention also relates to a front end. (Figure 2)
