Description

Title of the invention: Cardboard packaging box

[0001] The present invention relates to a cardboard packaging box, in particular a so-called "prestige" packaging box, in particular for a bottle of alcohol, a bottle of perfume or the like.

[0002] Conventionally, a packaging box, called "prestige", made of cardboard, comprises a base box, open on one side and defining within it a receiving space for a product, and a flap, which projects beyond the edge of the opening of the base box and which can be folded against the base box to block the opening and close the box, the flap comprising an end flap, intended to come into contact with a region of the envelope of the base box when the flap is folded against the base box.

[0003] Conventionally, in prestige cardboard packaging of this type, good closure of the box is ensured by integrating magnets in the envelope of the base box and in the end flap of the flap, so that the cooperation of the magnets ensures good pressing of the flap against a region of the envelope of the base box, thus giving the closed box a geometrically well-defined appearance, with the end flap well pressed against the base box.

[0004] Apart from the fact that magnets are expensive products, they are also elements with a "high ecological footprint", and we would like to be able to do without them, without losing the advantage that they confer, namely the assurance of a good fit of the end flap against the side envelope of the base box giving a well-defined appearance to the prestige packaging, and in particular giving the consumer opening the box an impression that it is well closed, in particular by the fact that the consumer must overcome the slight resistance to opening created by the interaction of the magnets.

[0005] The present invention aims to overcome the drawbacks of the prior art by providing packaging of the above type which makes it possible to do without magnets, whilst nevertheless ensuring good adhesion of the end flap against the casing of the case, as well as slight resistance to opening, identical or substantially identical to that which would be provided by magnets if they were provided.

[0006] According to the invention, a packaging box, made of cardboard, comprises a base box, open on one side and defining within it a receiving space for a product, and a closing flap, which projects beyond the edge of the opening of the base box and which can be folded against the base box to close the opening and close the box, the flap comprising an end flap, intended to come into contact with a region of the envelope of the base box when the flap is folded against the base box, is characterized in that a lug projects from the region of the casing with which the end flap comes into contact in the closed state of the box, and there is provided, in the end flap, a through opening of a shape complementary to the lug, so that, in the closed state of the box, the lug is received in the through opening while being in contact with the peripheral edge thereof.

[0007] Thus, according to the invention, even without magnets, the advantage is retained of having the end flap which, in the closed position of the box, is firmly pressed against the outer casing of the base box. On the other hand, due to the relative elasticity of the cardboard material and the friction of the edge of the opening on the peripheral edge of the lug, when the user pulls the end flap towards him to open the box, he feels a certain resistance, thus giving him the impression that the box is properly closed. In addition, when the flap is separated from the lug, the resistance linked to the friction between the lug and the edge of the opening creates a slight impulse resulting in a sound like a click, giving the consumer even more the impression that the box, before its opening, was properly closed.

[0008] Preferably, the thickness of the lug is slightly greater than the thickness of the end flap, and therefore than that of the through opening, so that, in the closed state of the box, the lug protrudes slightly outside the through opening, in particular by a few %, for example from 5 to 20% of the thickness of the lug, in particular by a few millimeters, for example from 1 to 5 mm.

[0009] According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the base housing has a parallelepiped shape, in particular a rectangle, comprising a bottom flank, a front flank, a rear flank and two left and right side flanks which define between them the reception space open on the top, opposite the bottom flank.

[0010] Preferably, the flap comprises at least one base flank, intended to cover the opening of the box, and an end flank which can be folded back relative to the base flank and which forms the end flap of the box.

[0011] Preferably, the base flank projects from an edge of one of the two left and right lateral flanks and the end flank bears against the outer face of the other of the two left and right lateral flanks.

[0012] According to one embodiment, the lug has a shape comprising at least one curved portion. In particular, the lug has the shape of a circle, an ellipse, a heart, a clover, a lying figure eight or the like.

[0013] Preferably, the lug is made of cardboard, in particular is made of the same cardboard material as the rest of the box.

[0014] Preferably, the lug is glued to the casing of the housing.

[0015] Preferably, the dimension of the periphery of the lug is exactly identical to the dimension of the peripheral edge of the through opening of the end flap or very slightly higher than this, in particular higher by 0.1% to 2%, even more preferably by 0.5% to 1%, to ensure good support of the end flank against the casing of the base housing in the closed position of the box.

[0016] Preferably, the box consists on the one hand of a cardboard box of rectangular parallelepiped shape open on the top, having a bottom panel, a front panel, a rear panel and two left and right side panels which define between them a receiving space open on the top, opposite the bottom panel, and on the other hand of a cardboard sheet comprising at least first, second and third panels, separated from each other by respectively first and second intermediate fold lines, the first panel being fixed, in particular glued, against the left side panel of the box, while the second panel can be folded down along the first fold line above the opening of the box to close the receiving space and the third panel can be folded down along the second fold line against the right side panel, the bottom, front, rear and right panels respectively forming the bottom, front, rear and right sides.rear and right side of the box, the second panel forming the base side of the flap, the third panel forming the end side of the flap forming the end flap of the box and the first panel and the left panel, together forming the left side of the box, the lug protruding from the right side of the box while the through opening is made in the third panel of the sheet.

[0017] Preferably, the sheet further comprises two additional panels, respectively a fourth and a fifth panel, the fourth panel being separated from the first panel by a third fold line and the fifth panel being separated from the fourth panel by a fourth fold line, the fourth panel being fixed, in particular glued to the bottom panel of the box and the fifth panel being fixed, in particular glued to the right panel of the box, the front and rear panels respectively forming the front and rear sides of the box, the second panel forming the base panel of the flap, the third panel forming the end panel of the flap forming the end flap of the box, the first panel and the left panel, together forming the left panel of the box, the fourth panel and the bottom panel forming the bottom panel of the box and the fifth panel and the right panel forming the right panel of the box,the lug protruding from the fifth side of the sheet while the through opening is made in the third side of the sheet.

[0018] According to an advantageous embodiment, several lugs can be provided cooperating with several through openings formed in the end flap.

[0019] According to an advantageous embodiment, the panel forming the end flap has a dimension smaller than that of the right panel of the box, and the right end edge of the end flap has a shape recalling the shape of the product received in the box.

[0020] In particular, a border extends along the right end edge, in particular of a color different from the color of the box.

[0021] By way of example, a preferred embodiment of a box according to the invention will now be described with reference to the drawings, in which:

[0022] [Fig.l] is a perspective view from above of an embodiment of a box according to the invention, the closing flap not being folded back against the base case to reveal the product receiving space;

[0023] [Fig. 2] is a perspective view of the box, in which the base flank of the closing flap has been folded down against the base case to close the product receiving space, while the end flap has not yet been folded down against the side casing of the base case;

[0024] [Fig. 3] is a view of the box in the closed state, the end flap having been folded down against the side casing of the base housing;

[0025] [Fig.4] is a top view of a sheet forming part of another embodiment of a box according to the invention; and

[0026] [Fig.5] is a perspective view of a box forming part of the case comprising the sheet of [Fig.4].

[0027] [Fig. 1] is a perspective view of a box 1 according to the invention. The box 1 comprises a base housing 2 defining a space 3 for receiving the product open on the top. The base housing 2, open on the top, consists of a bottom side 4, a front side 5, a rear side 6 and two sides 7 and 8 respectively left and right in the figure. The sides 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 together form the envelope of the base housing and define the open interior space 3 for receiving the product.

[0028] A closing flap 9 projects from the end edge of the opening of the housing, namely the top edge 11 of the left side flank 7 (of course, alternatively, it could be any other of the top edges of the front, rear or right side flanks). The closing flap 9 has a base flank 10 of identical shape to that of the opening and to that of the bottom flank 4, and intended to cover the opening of the base housing to close the receiving space 3.

[0029] On the other hand, the closing flap 9 comprises an end flap 12, which extends from an end edge of the base flank 10, the end edge being formed by a folding line 13 which delimits on either side, the base flank and the flap.

[0030] The end flap 12 has a through opening 14, here formed in the shape of a three-lobed clover, but which could have another shape without departing from the scope of the invention.

[0031] The end flap 12 has a smaller dimension than that of the right side 8 of the base box and has along its right end edge a border 15 intended to recall the shape of the product intended to be received in the box, here a bottle of wine. However, without departing from the scope of the invention, the end flap 12 could have a dimension identical to that of the side 8 and come to cover the latter entirely when the flap is folded down onto the base housing.

[0032] Once the base flank 10 has been folded against the opening of the base housing 2 to close the product receiving space 3, the end flap 12 can be folded along the folding line 13, relative to the base flank 10, to come into contact, by its inner face 16, with the outer face 17 of the right lateral flank 8 of the base housing.

[0033] A lug 18 projects from the outer face 17 of the right lateral flank 8. The lug projects from the face 17 by a thickness, measured in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the outer face 17 or left-right axis, which is preferably constant over the entire periphery of the lug.

[0034] When the flap 12 is folded against the outer face 17 of the right side 8, the lug 18 penetrates through the through opening 14 formed in the end flap 12, to allow the flap 12 to come to bear, by its inner face 16, against the outer face 17 of the right lateral side 8. The box is then in the closed position. In the closed position, the box thus has an external appearance as perfect as possible, in particular as perfect as with magnets and this without having to provide such magnets.

[0035] Preferably, the lug 18 passes through the through opening 14 by extending outwardly beyond the latter, in particular having a thickness slightly greater than the thickness of the end flank 12 (which is also the thickness of the through opening). In particular, the thickness of the lug may be slightly greater than the thickness of the flap 12, for example from a few tenths of a millimeter to a few millimeters, in particular from 0.1 to 2 mm. In particular, the amount by which the lug protrudes beyond the flap may correspond to a few tenths of a % of the thickness of the lug, for example from 0.5 to 1% of the thickness of the lug.

[0036] In the closed position, the box thus has an external appearance as perfect as possible, in particular as perfect as with magnets and this without having to provide such magnets.

[0037] According to another embodiment shown in Figures 4 and 5, the housing can be manufactured from a basic box 30 and a cardboard sheet 40.

[0038] The cardboard box 30 of rectangular parallelepiped shape open on the top, has a bottom panel 31, a front panel 32, a rear panel 33 and two side panels 34, 35 left and right which define between them a reception space open on the top, opposite the bottom panel 31.

[0039] The cardboard sheet 40 comprises at least first, second and third panels 41, 42, 43, separated from each other by respectively first and second intermediate folding lines 44, 45, the first panel 41 being fixed, in particular glued, against the left side panel 34 of the box, while the second panel 42 can be folded down along the first fold line 44 above the opening of the box to close the receiving space and that the third panel 43 can be folded down along the second fold line 45 against the right side panel 35, the front panels 32 and 33 rear panels respectively forming the front and rear sides of the box while the second panel 42 forms the base side of the flap and the third panel 43 forms the end flap of the flap.

[0040] In the case where it is provided (which is not the case shown in figures 4 and 5) that the sheet has only the three sides 41, 42, 43, then the first side 41 and the left side 34 would together form the left side of the box while the bottom side and the right side of the box would be formed by the sides 31 and 35. In this embodiment not shown, the lug would be formed on the outer face of the left side side side 35 of the box 30 and would cooperate with a through opening formed in the third side 43.

[0041] In the embodiment shown in Figures 4 and 5, the sheet further comprises two additional panels, respectively a fourth panel 46 and a fifth panel 47, the fourth panel 46 being separated from the first panel 41 by a third fold line 48 and the fifth panel 47 being separated from the fourth panel 46 by a fourth fold line 49.

[0042] The fourth panel 46 is fixed, in particular glued, against the bottom panel 31 of the box so as to form with it the bottom side of the box.

[0043] The fifth panel 47 is fixed, in particular glued, against the right panel 35 of the box so as to form with it the right side of the case.

[0044] The lug 18 projects from the fifth side 47 of the sheet while the through opening 14 is provided in the third side 43 of the sheet.

[0045] The case may preferably be made entirely of cardboard material, for example grey cardboard, Isorel wood cardboard, card cardboard, the layers of cardboard to form the different sides and / or panels of the box preferably having a weight of between 200 and 500 g / m2 and a thickness of between 2 mm and 5 mm.

[0046] The present invention does not only apply to packaging for bottles or flasks and can be applied in all fields, in particular the food field, the field of prestigious gifts and the like.
