Abstract

The present invention relates to a method and device for controlling a charging system for an electric vehicle traction battery (10) incorporating a navigation system. Specifically, the method comprises receiving initial data representing a set of locations (L1, L2, L3), each including a geographic position and charging characteristics, and receiving second data representing a current geographic position of the electric vehicle. For each location in the set of locations, a distance separating the current geographic position from the geographic position of each location is determined, and a current location corresponding to the location in the set of locations associated with the smallest determined distance, referred to as the minimum distance, is selected. The charging system is then controlled according to the minimum distance and the charging characteristics associated with the current location. (See Figure 4 for an abstract.)
