Abstract

This disclosure proposes an electronic assistive system for visually impaired users, comprising a Braille reader / writer that can act both as a Braille teacher for the user and as a universal keyboard for a smart device. The electronic assistive system may further optionally include a smart device adapter that helps the user operate the smart device and the Braille reader / writer together more ergonomically. The electronic assistive system may also optionally include an arched gamepad sleeve that allows the user to enjoy games while using the Braille reader / writer's keyboard. Therefore, the electronic assistive system described in this disclosure can help visually impaired people not only learn Braille and input characters onto smart devices, but also potentially engage in and enjoy games as much as sighted people, and allow visually impaired people to play with sighted people. Most importantly, it can eliminate the gaming barrier between visually impaired and sighted people. This barrier is currently invisible and unintentional within both visually impaired and sighted gaming communities. Ultimately, this can lead to a more equal life for visually impaired people compared to sighted people. (Figure 9)
