AI Technical Summary
Conventional motorcycle security devices are often cumbersome to use, requiring users to kneel and access both sides of the bike, leading to low compliance due to difficulty and inconvenience, thus increasing the risk of theft.
A motorcycle security device that allows secure locking from a fixed position using a stand to support the bike upright and a locking arm engageable with the wheel, operable with one hand, featuring a sliding pin and anti-tamper design.
Enhances user compliance by simplifying the locking process, reducing theft risk through ease of use and secure anchoring, making it more likely that owners will use the device effectively.
Abstract
Description
This invention relates to a motorcycle security device. Motorcycle theft is a problem which has existed for many years, and there are already a plethora of devices available to secure motorcycles against theft. One area commonly overlooked with conventional security devices however, is ease of use. Although some conventional security devices may be secure, many are awkward to use and often require the user to kneel on the floor in order to operate them. Many also require the user to be able to access both sides of the bike to operate the security device, which in many cases is either difficult or not possible. The result is that despite owning a security device, many motorcycle owners fail to use them. The present invention addresses these issues by allowing the motorcycle to be secured from a fixed position, and with only one hand. By combining proven methods of attach resistance with a design which is significantly easier and quicker to use, more motorcycle owners will be encouraged to actually use a security device and therefore reduce motorcycle theft. This ease of use is a result of having a stand which supports the motorcycle in an upright position, so that the rider does not need to support the bike in any way during the locking process, and from the locking arm which can be positioned, engaged through the wheel and locked from a fixed position and using only one hand. When the security device is in operation, the anchoring points are not accessible and therefore cannot be tampered with. The stand preferably supports the motorcycle by engaging with the rear tyre, although this may also be done by other means, such as engaging with another part of the motorcycle. The locking arm is preferably made from hardened steel, although other materials which achieve the same level of attack resistance may be used. The invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figures 1 and 3 show the fully assembled motorcycle security device, with the locking arm pin in the locked position. Figures 2 and 4 show the fully assembled motorcycle security device, with the locking arm pin in the open position. Figure 5 shows a sectional view through the locking arm of the fully assembled motorcycle security device, with the locking arm pin in the locked position. Figure 6 shows a sectional view through the locking arm of the fully assembled motorcycle security device, with the locking arm pin in the open position. In figure 1, a stand comprising a base plate 1 and frame 2 is assembled together with a locking arm 6. The locking arm 6 features a sliding pin 8. There is a knob 10 attached to the sliding pin 8 for ease of operation. The locking arm 6 is attached to the base plate 1 by clamps 12, whose means of attachment cannot be accessed whilst the stand is in use. The clamps 12 secure the locking arm 6 in such a way that the locking arm 6 is still able to move to accept motorcycle rear wheels of different sizes, shapes and positions. A ramp 16 is used to provide a method for the motorcycle wheel to be pushed over the locking arm 6 in order to engage with the frame 2. The ramp 16 also obscures access to some of the anchor points of the base plate 1. The motorcycle rear wheel will be resting on the ramp 16 during operation, so it cannot be removed. Other anchor points on the base plate 1 which are not obscured will use fasteners with anti-drilling features. Figure 3 is an alternative view of Figure 1. Figure 2 shows the groove on the sliding pin 8 which the lock 7 engages with. A detent 9 is used to control the position where the sliding pin 8 can be withdrawn to, and to prevent the sliding pin 8 from being fully removed accidentally. Figure 4 is an alternative view of Figure 2.
Claims
1. A motorcycle security device that comprises of a stand which supports the motorcycle in an upright position, and a locking arm which secures the motorcycle by the rear wheel and can be operated with one hand and from a fixed position.
2. A motorcycle security device according to claim 1, in which the locking arm is attached to the stand in a way which prevents access to the attachment method while the device is in operation, but still allows the locking arm assembly to move in order to engage with motorcycle rear wheels of different sizes, shapes and positions.
3. A motorcycle security device according to claim 1, in which the stand is anchored to a surface in a way which cannot be tampered with while the device is in operation.
4. A motorcycle security device according to claim 1, in which the stand comprises a base plate which is configured to be anchored to a surface, and a frame which engages with the rear tyre of the motorcycle.
5. A motorcycle security device according to claim 1, in which the locking arm is made from materials which can resist attach from cutting, drilling, hammering, prying, and other similar techniques.
