Abstract
A backscatter x-ray radiation system 400 configured to classify a target 403 based on its composition. The system emits x-ray radiation 402 that may be modulated, and the output radiation 402 energy may be controlled, and the spectrum of radiation energy may be limited using a filter. Emitted radiation 402 may be Bremsstrahlung radiation or characteristic radiation. The system may be capable of ranging distance between emitter 401 and target 403. A computer system 406 with controller and data analyser may use data from backscattered Compton radiation detector 405 to generate images or classify the target.
