AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Tippers are susceptible to rollover incidents during payload discharge due to increased center of gravity, lateral instability, and collisions with obstructions, and are prone to unsafe operator practices that exacerbate these risks.

Method used

A computer-implemented method using multiple angle and load sensors, wind pressure sensors, and object detection systems to monitor the tipper vehicle's configuration, determining unsafe conditions, and controlling the dump box position to prevent rollovers and collisions by adjusting the raising and lowering of the payload.

Benefits of technology

The system effectively reduces the incidence of rollover events and collisions by continuously monitoring and controlling the dump box's position based on real-time sensor data, ensuring stable and safe operation.

Abstract

This specification relates to systems, methods, and apparatus for monitoring the use of a tipper. According to a first aspect of this specification, there is described a computer implemented method for preventing roll over of a tipper vehicle. The method comprises: receiving, from each of a plurality of angle sensors of the tipper vehicle, respective angle measurements of the tipper vehicle while a dump box of the tipper vehicle is in use; receiving, from each of a plurality of load sensors of the tipper vehicle, respective load measurements of the dump box of the tipper vehicle while a dump box of the tipper vehicle is in use; determining, based on the respective angle measurements of the tipper vehicle and the respective load measurements of a dump box of the tipper vehicle, that the tipper vehicle is in an unsafe configuration; and in response to determining that the tipper vehicle is in an unsafe configuration, controlling the position of the dump box of the tipper vehicle.
