AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing reinforcement methods for the hinged side of windows and doors often compromise between ease of installation, alignment, and effective operation versus interference with normal use, failing to adequately prevent forcible entry attempts.

Method used

An anti-tamper component with a retaining edge and anchoring region, positioned to remain behind the retaining edge when the panel is dislodged, creating a barrier to access the anchoring region and preventing exposure during forcible entry.

Benefits of technology

Effectively prevents forcible removal of panels from their frames by maintaining the anchoring region secure, while allowing normal operation without interference.

Abstract

An anti-tamper component 10 to resist forcible removal of a panel 30 from its frame 40 comprises a base 12 carrying a retaining edge 20 the base to be fastened to the panel 30 or the frame 40, the retaining edge to abut the respective other of the panel 30 or the frame 40 when dislodged. The retaining edge is oriented away from the base such that the base is behind / trails the retaining edge as the wing is opened which inhibits access to the base of the component via an exposed region 38 as the wing is opened. Preferably the retaining edge forms a hook shape with a double return elbow in an S-shape. A pair of identical anti-tamper components may be used or a complementary shaped hook retainer 1 may be provided on the other of the frame and panel. The component 10 may be of spring steel to permit plastic deformation during forcible entry.
