Human Waste Processing Apparatus

Abstract

A human waste processing device comprises: a first heating vessel 82 having an internal heating chamber 17, and a first heater 43 positioned in a gravity assisted waste processing direction between an inlet and an outlet of the first heating vessel. A separation enclosure 39 is provided at or connected to an outlet region of the chamber to receive partially dried waste. A slurry return conduit 56, 58 has an intake region 58a at the separation enclosure and an outlet region provided at the heating chamber to enable recirculation of a slurry form of the waste through the first heating chamber. A second heating vessel (41, Fig. 1) is connected to the separation enclosure. The first and / or second heating vessels can be configured for pyrolysis or torrefaction processing of the human waste. A liquid based emission scrubber unit 15 can be coupled to at least one pyrolysis / torrefaction heating unit. The human waste processing device may be included as part of a toilet module (11, Fig. 6). Alternatively, the human waste processing device may be utilised for the processing of human waste (faeces) at a pit latrine. A method of processing human waste is also described.
