Pessaries

Abstract

A pessary 50 comprises a generally rounded main body formed as a completely reticulated outer shell 52, 56, 58 surrounding a void 54 forming a hollow interior. The pessary 50 may be generally spherical, ovoid or spheroidal and manufactured from an elastomeric material. The pessary may be formed with a faceted outer shell formed of a plurality of polygons with apertures in the polygons. The faceted outer shell may be generally dodecahedral or icosahedral. The reticulated outer shell enables the pessary to be comfortably inserted into the vaginal cavity, where it can act upon the cervix, and / or anterior / posterior walls of the vagina to provide structural support to the cervix 32. The reticulated outer shell enables the pessary to compress radially inwardly so as to facilitate its insertion and extraction into or from the vaginal cavity.
