AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing cable installation systems in multi-story buildings require multiple components, are time-consuming to assemble, and result in waste due to fixed lengths that need cutting, leading to tangled cables and increased installation time and cost, especially when different types of cables need separation.

Method used

A cable hanger with a foot and leg portion, featuring a living hinge and cable-receiving apertures with gates that allow mid-cable access, enabling easy installation and adaptability to any ceiling space without threading or pulling, and can be stored compactly for transport.

Benefits of technology

The cable hanger reduces installation time, minimizes waste, and ensures easy access for maintenance, while meeting safety standards for cable separation and insulation, allowing quick and efficient installation of cables.

Abstract

A cable hanger 1 with a foot portion 3 having gussets 5, 6 and tabs 5a, 6a to secure it to a surface and a leg portion 2 with cable-receiving apertures 11 and foldable gates 12 able to fold between an open position and a closed position, allowing for cables to be inserted into each aperture 11 from the side. A living hinge may be used to attach: the gates 12 to the leg portion 2, the foot portion 3 to the leg portion 2, and the gussets 5, 6 to the foot portion 3. The tabs 5a, 6a may be locking tabs. The cable hanger 1 may itself be foldable into a flat configuration and may be manufactured from a sheet metal preform.
