Abstract

A cryogenic apparatus 100 for a quantum computer comprises an enclosure defining an enclosed volume, the volume containing a sample volume 111, wiring 131 connected to the sample volume, and a cooling device 121. A cooling frame 140 conductively couples the cooling device with the wiring, the cooling frame comprising a first portion (145, Fig. 1C) extending along a first axis W between the cooling device toward the sample volume, and a second portion (146, Fig. 1C) extending along a second axis U, transverse to the first axis, between the sample volume to the wiring. The enclosure may comprise a sample module 110, a cooling module 120, and wiring module 130. The cooling device may comprise a series of primary (152, 154, 156, Fig. 2) and secondary (151, 153, 155, Fig. 2) heat exchangers. The wiring may be supported in a cassette (160, Fig. 1C) comprising plates (161-164, Fig. 1C), which is removably coupled to the sample volume in the direction of the second axis. Cryogenic apparatus and a kit of parts comprised of interconnected sample, cooling, and wiring modules, a polyhedral module unit, and a pump line 150 are also claimed.
